I review, breakdown and explain The Iron Claw. I discuss the 2024 A24 movie which starred Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White as brothers of The Von Erich family. I react to the ending, Ric Flair, Mike's death, David's death, Kerry's death and the deeper meaning and symbolism of the film.

No not really, it's illegal to use steroids without a valid prescription or to distribute them. Steroids are Schedule III substances under the Controlled Substances Act. Schedule III drugs, which have a legitimate medical function, may lead to moderate to low physical dependence or high psychological dependence. Maybe there's a reason? Maybe the Academy frowns on not using the makeup dep. to get the anabolic swelling?

I’m absolutely shocked that Zac Efron was not nominated for anything! That last scene broke me (“I’m a brother with no brothers.”). Hopefully this film will get a wider audience when it’s released in streaming.

The Iron Claw was snubbed everywhere, not just the Oscars, and I definitely think it deserved some nominations for best actor and best supporting actor. It was a great film and so moving.

@psychedpanda3333 unfortunately, no. It was released in 2023 (12/22), so it would need to have been considered for the awards ceremonies for 2023, which are wrapping up now with the Oscars in two weeks. It could only be considered next time if it came out in 2024.

@@rebeccag8589 I thought they submitted it too late for this year bc it’s definitely best picture worthy but that’s a shame and Zac Efron probably deserves a nomination more than Bradley cooper

@psychedpanda3333 oh, when people have been saying it was submitted too late, they mean that not enough voters were able to see it :( It wasn't actually too late in an official sense.

Being from Texas and knowing about the family I knew my heart was going to be broken. One of the best movies I've seen in years.

Zac's eyes were haunting. They reminded me of my Dad's once he lost his last brother to a heart attack when I was only 12. He lost his first due to a freak boating accident. Not to mention losing his Dad to cancer when he was only 11. Me and my dad were both High School wrestling standouts. I eventually went on to make a D1 roster, but my career was cut short due to injuries in only my Freshman year. Sure, my Dad may have lived a little vicariously through me, shit, the small town I grew up in did. All that I remember though is coming home to a small town that once viewed me as this savant, to now being the "what if" kid, everyone just moved on in search of the next athletic star our small shitty town would produce. The only one who understood my pain was my Dad. This movie has now helped me understand his. I know why he protected me and my little brother at all costs. This one hit a little too close to home. Took everything I had in me to not ball my eyes out in front of my date. I damn sure did after I dropped her off though.

Wow I hope you and your dad get what you want and find peace in what time has brought you. You should write a book on your story. I feel many would find it close and near to them. Cheers

I think the scene at the end where Kerry sees his brother in the afterlife are what Kevin is thinking about in that moment. Very sad ending wasn’t prepared for this movie 😢

This was my interpretation as well. The scene is taking place in Kevin’s mind as his attempt to process these tragedies. I think Sean Durkin has said he wanted to portray what Kerry imagined would happen after he died. Beauty of art can be in different people’s interpretations.

The real Kevin NEVER believed in the curse. That was all writers. I really hope people look up the real story, which is MORE sad believe it or not. The writers thought the real story would be TOO SAD for a successful screenplay. It didnt even mention the younger brother Chris who also unalived himself, didnt show "Lance" who was played by MJF one of the executive producers, how Fritz actually passed and what actually happened and was said between he and Kevin after all of the unalivings but before Fritz himself passed, what really happened in Japan, the whole TSS thing with there is so much more to the story they couldnt even go into because writers thought it too sad. Look up Dark Side of the Ring: Curse of the von Erichs. They did a great piece on it. Also, Bruiser Brody was part of it, and his story was another sad one too.

I like how Zac Efron is getting more recognition for his acting chops, I really thought he stood out in his Ted Bundy role and he's just been excellent ever since. Really looking forward to the next steps in his career. Just saw The Iron Claw and what a beautiful film it was, a tragic story with a protagonist who wasn't defined by the strength he showed in his wrestling career but, that of strength in times of desperation and hardships.

I didn’t know the real story and it hit me… how heavy and sad. Best performance of Zac Efron's career. Firstly, this is not a sports film, but a drama and a heavy one. Fights happen, but they end up being a secondary element in the story. This one doesn't seem very promising at first, but it ends up revealing several sequences with great emotional impact. For me, Zac Efron has delivered the best work of his career so far and the rest of the cast doesn't disappoint either. I didn't know the story of the Von Erichs and their trajectory is very interesting and sad at the same time. The film has good performances, a great cast and holds your attention from start to finish. After seeing the film I went looking for more information about it, and in fact its story is... The real story is impressive "- I'm sorry, boys, men don't cry. - It's okay, dad, you can cry. Everyone cries. - Yes, what do you mean? We cry all the time. - Do you know why you are sad? - Well... I think it's because I had brothers..."

Great film. What a mix of emotions. The end should have been depressing from everything that happened but the afterlife reunion and the scene with his sons made it hopeful and positive. Still ugly cried though. Btw they had another brother called Chris who also killed himself. It would have made the movie even more depressing but omitting him altogether is really disrespectful when they even included Jack Jr. who they barely remember.

I honestly would say Iron Claw is the antithesis of movies like Rocky, with absolute zero disrespect to the Rocky or Creed franchises. Iron Claw is a gritty, depressing, and very realistic movie that gets all the right marks down expertly. This was my first ever A24 movie I saw, and I’m happy with it. The subject material has handled well, etc. the ending… man it hit too close to home. A lot of people don’t tend to realize a lot of fathers unfortunately are like Fritz Von Erich (which fuck that guy btw, he roleplayed as an actual Nazi in post WWII America 😐💀) and subject their sons to immense amounts of abuse.

Great film esp for Texas fans. But they didn't even mention that there were FOUR brothers that took their lives. CHRIS the youngest bro who also took his own life and he wasn't even IN the film. I guess he would have been too much to put in.
