The Von Erichs invited ET into their home following Kerry's death, sharing their grief in rare interviews just one day after his suicide on February 18, 1993. The wrestling dynasty's patriarch, Fritz Von Erich, recalled finding Kerry's body at their Texas ranch. Kevin Von Erich explained possible motivations leading up to his younger brother's death, including a motorcycle accident that left him with one foot, plus the looming threat of a prison sentence following a drug charge at the time. At a tribute ceremony, Kerry's peers from the professional wrestling community remembered the 33-year-old athlete, who his fans also knew as 'The Modern Day Warrior.' Speaking with ET, 'Gentleman' Chris Adams, David 'Angel of Death' Sheldon and more praised Kerry's performance abilities in his final years and reflected on his 'puppy dog' personality off the mat. In the new biopic, ‘The Iron Claw,’ in theaters now, ‘The Bear’ star Jeremy Allen White portrays Kerry, while Zac Efron plays Kevin.

Before there was Hulkamania and The Steve Austin/Rock era, the Von Erich era of 1982-1985 had the most passionate and dedicated fans in wrestling history. They didn’t just view those young men as wrestlers but as heroes and they are cultural icons. The moment where Kerry defeated Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at Texas Stadium in 1984 has one of the most emotional crowd reactions in any form of entertainment.

The one thing I will say that may be a glimmer of light about Kevin is he seems like the exact opposite of his father to his own boys. Everywhere they go together they all grab a rock not to collect rocks but to use the rock to remember that moment together, whenever and wherever that may be. I thought that was so cool that I now do that with my wife and will do the same with our kids once they are older.

Most ppl knew about his foot..both fans and his peers..but it seems like they just played along with his story. I remember back in 1991 when I got into WWF at the time, there was just something about Kerry Von Erich aka Texas Tornado that made him my favourite. The way he moved, looked and carried himself - he the 'It' factor. Heartbreaking to learn back in the late 90s that he only had one foot from that motorcycle accident. The pain he had to endure emotionally from some much loss and tragedy, and the battling addiction along with with that physical pain in the ring after that...I am now a bigger fan of him than ever.

"The Yellow Rose of Texas" was David Von Erich, not Kerry. Kerry was the "Modern Day Warrior" and "The Texas Tornado". Kerry wore a yellow rose on the back of his ring jacket in honor of David.

I was watching guest booker with Gary Hart. Gary to the boys was known as Uncle Gary. He told Fritz what was going on. When Kerry lost his foot. Gary pitched for Kerry fessing up for pain killers but he did it for the fans so he wouldn't let them down. Leading to him showing he had one foot. Gary knew the people would stand stronger with Kerry. Gary delivery when he described it was gold. It's sad Kerry couldn't see through the clouds that there is sunshine on the other side.

I discovered the story of the Von Erichs at the beginning of the year when I looked up the story behind "the Iron Claw" As the oldest of 4 brothers (we're all alive and well, knock on wood), my brain literally cannot comprehend the scale of the tragedy that Kevin has lived through. To lose all one's brothers is frightening to me. I discovered what I can only consider to be my worst nightmare. Seeing Kevin so calm in these interviews here, as well as how he was in the "Dark Side of the Ring" documentary, is truly inspiring, and makes me even more thankful for the life I've had

To me, the most chilling scene in The Iron Claw, was Kerry getting out of bed on crutches, and you see him hobble out to his kitchen with the lower half of his shin as a stump. I always thought the amputation occurred right above the ankle. I had no idea that he had lost that much of his shin.

Makes you wonder what would have happened if WWF had tried to poach Kerry in 1985, before the wreck. Dude was built like what Arnold always wanted to be. I could have seen him having at least a 10-year career in WWF. Hell, a Stone Cold vs. Kerry Von Erich match is a Wrestlemania dream.

This is the perspective of an outsider who can never know what the families relationship was actually like but Fritz saying that hearing “I really love you dad” should have alerted him feels very telling towards the darker side of the father sons relationship. It could be a product of the time and place but it’s still a saddening aspect of this whole situation

I didn’t like the fact that they left Chris out and they changed many things that made no sense. The real story was so much more sad. For example, Kerry had kids when he killed himself. The movie didn’t just gloss that over but made it a point to say he was single with no family; what’s the purpose of that?
@jonathanturbide2232
@jonathanturbide2232 5 ай бұрын
Maybe his kids didn't participate in the making of the movie, therefore it was safer for the producers not to mention them. Remember that this isn't a documentary, it's a fiction movie based on real life events.
@haljordan777
@haljordan777 5 ай бұрын
@@jonathanturbide2232 The second half of your comment makes sense, but the first half doesn't. If his kids didn't participate, then you don't use their names*, but you don't have to leave them out entirely unless that's the creative direction you've chosen. They also chose to leave out the reasons why Kerry killed himself. The fact that he had been arrested for cocaine and forging prescriptions for painkillers. He was facing prison time and he didn't want to go to prison. Furthermore, he reportedly asked his wife if she would wait for him and she said no, so portraying Kerry as completely single and childless was not a wise creative choice. * In Gia, the 1998 biopic where Angelina Jolie played supermodel Gia Carangi, they changed the name of Gia's girlfriend for the film. They didn't remove her from the story of Gia's life. They just changed the name.

I'm in the minority that did not like The Iron Claw. So for me one of the positives that did come out of that movie is all the unearthing of programs like this & newscasts of the actual events that I haven't seen before that are being posted with the release of this movie. I didn't think the movie was bad, it was very well acted but the film inspired by a true story had a little too much fiction for my liking & I thought it was bland and rushed. But that's just me, I'm not disparaging the vast majority of people who loved this movie, it just didn't work for me
