Growing up watching this as a kid. Especially with the heated tension with Iran and events in the Middle East starting in the late 1970's carrying thru the 1980's. The Iron Sheik had legitimate heat and skills. Now, many years later. He's in my top 10 favorites of all time. Entertaining promos. Just looking back makes me smile to watch that whole era unfold. Them boots🤣🤣🤣🤣, he was an integral part of the success of WWF in the 80's.

One thing you have to know that, the Iron Sheik was probably one of the ONLY people in WWE that never used roids. As stated by Hulk Hogan, none of them can lift his clubs since he was much MUCH stronger than them, due to no steroid use.
@creon3866Ай бұрын
That makes no sense. You can’t be stronger than someone due to not using steroids. Those clubs are all about technique - if you don’t know it you won’t be able to use them, steroids or not.

My first ever live wrestling event as a kid. Iron Sheik and Nikolia Volkoff vs. Sgt. Slaughter and The Junkyard Dog at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in 1984. Epic match. Rest in peace brother.
@JoeTheCheapskate11 ай бұрын
My favorite of all time. He was the ultimate bad guy when the fans would fall for the patriotism stuff in Wrestling. Get him and Nikolai Volkoff waving russian and iranian flags, and a couple guys waving american flags, and you instantly had a feud. And it worked because the Sheik was the best at making the fans do what he wanted. He held the crowd in his hand. He spit, he was violent...perfect and an innovator. RIP to the best
@hot2warm11 ай бұрын
Ironically, that patriotism stuff rubbed me the wrong way, because I had opened my eyes to the inconsistencies of US foreign and domestic policies, and I actually started rooting for the anti-American patriot wrestlers. The Iron Sheik with his "Iran number one, USA, haaawk ptooo" was golden. But the absolute best was in the UWF when the Russians beat up Cowboy Bill Watts then draped the Soviet Flag over his unconscious body. Meanwhile, Sting and Rock (Ultimate Warrior) as the Bladerunners were fighting off the help while all that stuff was going on in the ring. I tell ya ... those were the best days of wrestling. YT has a video of it. If you never saw it before, it's certainly worth watching.

I can'tt speak for him as to WHY he loved America. I would guess it was because he had a chance to pursue any opportunity he wanted in America, which certainly was not the case in Iran. This man was an icon. He embodied the heart of 1980’s wrestling. He leaves us with amazing memories as a trailblazer in the WWF. We love you shieky baby!
@PreApocalypseJitters11 ай бұрын
The failure by the WWF to laud this man's returns to the organization in 1988 and 1991 is untenable. When he returned in 1988, he was barely given TV time. Then he's repackaged (like a 7-year-old boy hastily wrapping his Mother's Day gift with the Garfield comics 60 seconds before presentation) as the midcard Colonel Mustafa in 1991 and jobbed into obscurity by mid-1992. Guy's a heel legend. Highlights of my youth including standing for the Soviet National Anthem when Sheik would team with the late Nikolai Volkoff.

Well, he then went on to WCW. I guess they used him for like a month, realized that his knees were blown out so they sidelined him for his entire contract. The story I have heard is that his contract came up and had automatic renewal and WCW didn't notice so Sheik got it flipped over and got another couple of years of pay to sit home and do nothing.

RIP Sheik. What I love about him is how much he appreciated his freedoms here in America… maybe more than most Americans, since we take them for granted. His shtick was the American-hating Iranian. But he probably loved this country as much as anyone. And look what it gave him! And he absolutely loved the fans, despite being a heel. I don’t think I can call him a “great guy” given his vices and some of his old social views from his home country that he held onto… but he was at least someone who earned his respect and appreciated the fans, the promoter and the country that gave it to him. He’s a real icon of the sport.
