Joe Isaacs tickles the banjo as traditional bluegrass comes to the fore.

Boy you just can't beat that good old traditional bluegrass gospel music! Joe Isaac was a wonderful talented musician and still is to this day. The best ever was when they sang together as a family. I still love to hear Joe and Stacey Isaac sing together. Beautiful harmony!

I just saw them play this morning at our church. I have to tell you there is something special about a warm Spring Sunday morning and listening to some gospel bluegrass to get one right with the world. Thank you Isaacs for making my pastor's birthday so special.

Joe is a number one guy. Several years ago he and I sat on the porch of a cabin picking with each other. He showed me some things on the banjo.

Joe is a wonderful loving soul like no other!!!!!!! It's truly an honor to know him. He taught me so much about music & stage presence. Even though there were several yrs that I wasn't around him much, his words & life advice would often echo in my mind. Joe.......I thank you for taking me under your wing, teaching me about music & letting me share a small part in your life. Knowing you has been one of the richest blessings that God has ever bestowed on my life. I love you brother!!!!!!!

When I was in 3rd grade my Mother was a teacher at Sand Gap, Elementary school we would pass by the Isaacs house sometimes and I would see a little trailer with the Isaacs written on the side. Now I am 56 years old and I can't listen to this enough. Joe has a wonderful voice from the mountains, you just can't duplicate. Thanks Joe for putting out such a wonderful song. God Bless you and your family.

Joe IS the Isaacs! No question about it. I've seen him come out with them as a special guest in recent years to sing "Wondering Boy" and he brings the audience to their feet every time. I refuse to listen to them without him! Not to mention how great & down to earth he really is in person. God bless you Joe Isaacs!

@alexbluegrass I'll listen to them with or without him, but there was definitely a driving force he added to their sound. That drive just isn't there without him. You're right. Joe truly is an awesome person to know outside of music. He's down to earth & really easy to approach.

@@redlinemando I hear what you say but they play a different type of music nowadays so it is like comparing a carrot with a banana.
@redlinemando

@@happyolddude You're absolutely right, it's a different style, but a carrot or banana still retains a certain amount of "drive" to it's flavor. It's hard for me to explain exactly what I'm talking about. They still had it when they cut "pieces of Our Past", even on the slower cuts, but it's gradually got away from them. I still love their music & their vocal talent is 2nd to none!!!!!!!

@@redlinemando I like it all from the very start to what the three kids are doing now. I think 'You're The One I'm Dying For' is one of the best gospel sings ever written and recorded and they wrote it. However I also love 'Unlike Me Just Like Him' with their Dad Joe. To me they are the First Family of Gospel/Bluegrass. I was watching a new DVD I had bought of Gaithers Homecoming named 'Amazing Grace' and love it. But of all the wonderful acts on this DVD (25 I think) The Isaacs were the only ones who played their own instruments and that is one of the reasons that puts them head and shoulders above anybody else..My number two all time favourite group behind the ' 'Hillbilly Shakespeare Mr Hank Williams.

Yes Sonya was on stage singing so beautifully and playing mandolin at least age twelve or younger we knew back then she was destined to go on to bright future... she even toured with Allen Jackson for a short time. A natural as a band leader, so funny! Not sure where that came from her parents both being more or less serious on stage. God bless The Isaac's all of them!

Love Johnny Bowman. I think the Isaacs are an excellent group. Joe doesn't have that great a voice. I t was his choice to leave his family, and I think they pulled it off without him just fine, thanks to a dedicated and talented Mother.

As many times as I've watched this video & I don't know how I ever missed this comment. I apologize to other viewers for the novel I am about to type!!!! I'll start with this opening statement: A closed door doesn't often share it's secrets & there's 3 sides to every broken marriage. His.......Hers.......& the Truth. You can have "your opinion" about Joe's voice, but you are NOT going to make comments that indirectly run down the man's integrity!!!! NOT while I'm alive & NOT while I directly know some of what was going on behind the scenes!!!! You have no idea of the dedication & talent that Joe invested to get that group off the ground & keep it going in the 1st place. Joe was travelling on the road before he met Lily & there were a few other versions of the band before the kids were old enough to play. Let's get something else straightened out as well.......Joe did NOT leave his family. He left the band. Ben, Becky & Sonya were already grown, married & starting their own families when the split occurred. Joe & Lily were having marital issues & it led to divorce. Plain & simple. They were both in the wrong & that's the whole truth of it!!!! Road travel is an extremely stressful part of being in a band & let me tell you, being on a bus, travelling with an ALL family band, is 2x as stressful!!!! Joe thought it would be better to leave the band in an effort to minimize any further friction in the family. Joe also recognized that Ben, Becky & Sonya were headed in a more progressive direction with their music & he didn't want to hold them back. I know what I'm talking about. I lived with & played quite a bit of music with Joe in the early 2000's. I've loved him as a brother in Christ for over 20 yrs now. Joe has told me a lot of things over the yrs & I have witnessed a lot of things on my own. I watched Joe be heart broken many, many times because he was not with his kids & grandkids like he wanted to be. I've seen Joe silently stand by the wayside while accolades, that he laid the ground work for, were given to the rest of the family. So, be very careful when you make statements that could be misconstrued as such to say, "Joe abandoned his family" or "Joe was completely at fault for the divorce" or "Joe didn't really contribute much to the family's music". Those statements are degrading, untrue & from an unlearned mind.
