This anime is an isekai. I hate those, except for Mushoku Tensei and The Eminence in Shadow. I haven't watched KonoSuba and Re:Zero but I bet they're great! Anyway, this was a manga adapted to an anime so this is my review not reaction on Episode 1, 2, 3, 4. This does not cover Episode 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Enjoy!

The way they presented it was that the contaminated water was how the MC was forced to learn the difference between healing an injury and healing something that was hurting his body. The difference between a bandage and medicine. He tried healing himself after getting sick at first but got stuck with the cramp until he figured it out. So he applied that learned difference to counteracting the venom, even though he could only stalemate it

Yea as far as I could tell, he could just mitigate the venoms effects but it basically took a constant toll on his healing powers, while in his system. Which gives him a manageable weakness overall and makes his drained mana more believable. On top it was not the end of the fight, rose literally had to save him.

@@CleanUpNick plus being in stress makes you consume more many/being less efficient. And fighting that thing he looked very stressed. I personally had no issues with that being believable.

@@lorddante2360 whats more annoying is that people don't get that Isekai is just Shonen with even less breaks... and Shonen tends to go full throttle at a certain point. Stuff like MHA that don't go full bs halfway through are an exception not the rule.

@@Xo-3130 Isekai is Isekai, it got nothing to do with the shonen overall. You've got "the villainess" series that happen to be a shoujo/josei type of genre in which also happen in Isekai as its plot

It would seem this anime is evidence that Isekai does not promote lazy writing, but instead lazy writers tend to gravitate to Isekai.

I think its a big thing with light novels/web novels tbh. Firstly most web novels or light novels have similar genres; in Japan, it seems like isekai. Then, since there are no regulation as to the quality of works posted to web novel sites, and the fact that a lot of authors write chapters very quickly, there are a lot of either inexperienced authors or authors who write a lot quickly.

most of these stuffs came from WN, before getting adapted to LN for revising. so some of these are poorly written from the start, it's like grasping for a new idea from the scratch, and then you the author just says F this, after the plot feels different than they envision

@@janus2638 well, I read mostly LN, WN and sometimes manga. So you can infer from the afterwords that the original storyline is somehow different, or revisioned, also some of those get axed due to author dying, sickness and so on. So shitting on authors is kinda not good. And remember authors are not overpaid, they sometimes are underpaid so please show some respect to them. And mostly it would kinda help the author if you buy their works directly than buying it from translation websites

This is 1 scene and there are like 2 scenes like that tops. Are seriously going to compare thick abs to panty shots and "clothes" and "armor" that could best be described as underwear? Abs are fanservice but they are no way near as voyeuristic and cringe inducing as the classic fanservice. Question, can you go top less in the street as a guy? Weird but aight, if it's hot it's ok and if you're on the beach it's expected, now do the same as a female... Unless you're on a beach (more specifically a nudist beach, kill la kill reference yay) you ain't doing that. Abs are no way near as sexualized as boobs let alone underwear Also context, just because it's fan service doesn't make it "fan service" most people say fan service negatively because they mean something that's voyeuristic, heavy handed and cringe inducing, it's not a double standard it's just a gap between the actual definition and your perception of the definition. fan service is what pleases fans so a character showing up only because they're a fan favorite is by definition fan service, if you say attack on titan has no fan service you wouldn't scream that it's a double standard because levi exists specifically to appeal to a certain audience? Even if snk technically has fan service, it doesn't have "fan service" the way we perceive it. Wrong way to healing magic has no "fanservice" (or at least incredibly tame and almost inexistant) that's a fact not a double standard.

It is fanservice but it's rare and not something constantly shown, like men/women being half naked casually, wild jiggle physic, ass shot, cleavage shot, or ambiguous dialogues. Men/women as fanservice is fine as long as it's not something you keep forcing down audiences throat.

7:07 I asked my mother, an Omnipratiant MD, and she told me that the venom is actually the easiest of the two. You only have to extract most of it from the wound identify that one venom and nullify what remains, then let the patient recover. With contaminated water the whole process is identifying a whole list of harmful bacterias that might have resistance to the antibiotics you administer, they can also multiply, and most times the infection is in the small intestine so you have to flush the whole digestive system. then after that you must restore the normal gut bacterial presence while on the lookout for colony of harmful bacteria that are left, the patient can relapse because of that. Oh and Penicillin is slowly losing effectiveness, not the "on particular patients it does not work" case but IN GENERAL. As for surgery it's as much an art than a science. sometime there are multiple surgeons because one is better at opening and closings flesh in a way that minimise scarring while other have the eagle eye and steady hand to do that 1/10 of a millimeter cut. Or that one guy who is good at a technique that can jury rig the patient body.

@@toristeunebrink5705 honestly that's a question people have been asking for decades. it's probably the same reason doctors don't prescribe antibiotics as often as they used to, they're trying to slow the growth of antibiotic/penicillin resilient bacteria.

the best part of this show is that the Student Council President and her close guy friend actually end up being GENUINELY nice people that care for the MC, instead of being stuck-up asshats that try to lord their power over everyone else. it's so nice to have these three just be good close friends that help each other out when they aren't confident in their strengths

I am really enjoying the wrong way to use healing magic. The concept of using your healing to get physically buff is something I've heard before as a concept from a friend but have not seen in a series that I can think of. Also, it makes me laugh pretty regularly.

For real! The way you gain muscle is tearing them up and then regrowing. And if you can heal you can make the process go way faster. So its accurate aswell!

Sakura’s character is only bad because kishimoto himself is terrible at writing female characters (hot take: the only decent one he wrote is hinata). I suggest you work on your grammar instead of hating on somebody just to fit in

Regarding the poison, I think the idea of the author was basically that the healing magic he used to heal the stomachache basically accelerated the neutralisation process that’s done by like enzymes and shit, which would equate to a similar procedure for the poison. The healing spell basically accelerates the detoxification process in your body

I agree with the Thumbnail and a altogether s-ck of Fanservicee but the annime aint perfect, even if we ignore my personal grievance not being adressed: Isekai-Protags never use their modern Knowledge. I would fare better than any of them I even went wild with this idea and crafted my very own 'Isekai Guide' in Microsoft-Word - got over 60 paragphs spanning Soap,, Gutenberg Presse, Cures ofr variouss Diseases

It's nearly criminal if this series doesn't get more seasons, the books are just finishing and it's probably one of the best Japanese novel series. It has some of the best worldbuilding I have ever read, up with LOTR, GOT, etc. I am one of the weirdos who actually read and adore the great masters of fiction.

the wrong way to use healing magic is actually something that surprised me by how well it shows the mc and develops the story, but he also does have his weak moments that you didnt mention, him being exhausted (and out of mana) in the snake fight, with only plot armor letting him live, which shows that he does have limits, instead of the usual isekai where some guy dies/gets moved to another world and has basically no struggles. very good anime imo

I mean, I don't see a third option... 1- Wins against snake -> bad anime, he got strong so fast, no real challenge 2 - Loses and got saved by Rose -> bad anime, plot armor... Maybe he could loose an arm and still win...

He was healing the damage the venom was causing, and was constantly healing it during the fight, it reduced his ability to fight. It didn't just get healed and go away. The getting sick from the water was him just learning how to heal internal damage caused by being poisoned. It made sense.

I like how all the characters are actually decent people, and don't throw in (so far at least) cliche jealousy of success leading to turning evil or love triangles. They all have doubts and support each other to overcome them, even badass Rose has serious PTSD and self-doubt issues, despite the tough girl outer shell.

The river water thing was more just the mc learning the fundamentals on how to counter things that attack you from the inside by healing his insides, he basically did what he had done to heal the stomach poisoning but to an extreme that he had to do constantly to fight the venom, i would compare it to learning how to run properly on a hike, then using what you learned in a marathon

Yeah, and it ment he struggled to heal himself too. He was using the power the entire time. Plus I don't mind the only running out of mana near the end. Adrenaline is a real thing. You can fight for hours and then only feel tired afterwards.

@@levigreene9451 and his training was basically "what if you had adrenaline 24/7" because he did the same potentially damaging efforts a person on adrenaline would do but instead of adrenaline helping ignore the pain he had healing magic fixing the damage as it happened, so his limits when he's actually on adrenaline probably got way higher than any normal human

Campfire Cooking in Another World With My Absurd Skill fits this video more than the anime he showed did. No fanservice, the main character is super weak, the plot is super interesting and it's all tied together with Mappa animation and the premise of food.

about him healing venon after learning how to heal stomach aches: usato only knew how to cure fatigue and wounds, and through his stomach ache he learned how to heal illness. it does make sense

technically he didn't even do that... as the venom was too strong all he could do was stop it from getting worse and block its progress... he was still poisoned thruout the fight just using all his healing magic to stop it from progressing he did NOT cure it... just stopped it from progressing until it stopped on its own. thats why he used up so much mana and was completely exhausted afterwards cus his mana was in constant use just fighting off the poison.

It makes even more sense after googling how antivenom works. They literally just inject the person with antibodies specific to the venom. So if he learned to deal with illness, the same process almost certainly would work for venoms.

As someone who has read the manga for this, I’m glad you are getting into good isekais. The whole point in a way is that magic is limitless but they do balance out healing where it’s on a spectrum of only being able to heal yourself to only being able to heal others and our protagonist is very on the self healing end. You should look up unique isekai ideas and styles there are some really cool ones.

In dire situations humans can lift an suv to free their loved ones, run a mile on fractured bones- but they collapse the moment the adrenaline wears off. If magic is a strength that can be trained like a muscle why wouldn't it have an arenaline response?

Imagine if they added an Adrenaline skill in video games that use mana or a skill gauge. Would allow you to use skills beyond the limits of your mana/gauge in a pinch, but would then inflict damage equal to the excess used. Wonder how people would react to that...

@@southernflight5078 I know that Skyrim has a spell called Equilibrium that converts health into Magicka. The Hemopsychosis and Blood Magic abilities from Underrail and Dragon Age 1 and 2 respectively, are skills that, when activated, cause spells to consume health instead of Psi points/Mana.

@@amannamedsquid313 There's also the Power Within pyromancy spell in Dark Souls. It gives the user a massive boost to damage output and stamina regen for 100 seconds, but drains HP by 1%/s for the duration (i.e. it straight up kills you if you don't heal at some point). It was unfortunately heavily nerfed in the sequels and no longer drained all your hp, but the version of it from the first game is one of my favorite spells in the series thematically

Well, I go by "live and let live", which has gotten SO MUCH easier ever since the internet became a thing, which is my sole refuge from all that mainstream trash TV. Shows with OP characters can be relaxing sometimes, regardless of whether they're Isekai or if they're shows like One Punch Man or Spy x Family. I just wish Overlord hadn't gotten so boring. The first season's finale did present an actual obstacle to overcome, and I liked seeing Ainz's struggle to fit into the role of being king despite not wanting to, but keeping up the facade for his dear servants whom he views as a replacement family, but everything afterwards is less and less worth watching.

I watched a guy on youtube do a Spore video where he essentially did that "Use Healing magic to cure your depression" thing, except he added another level to it. There's an illegal weapon call the happy ray or something like that, basically it's mind control that forces an whole planet to become happy and pacified, since he wanted his race to be pacifists he chose not to fight anyone, including the really evil guys near the end. In an attempt to ally with them he ends up doing some not great things, and once he gets an alliance he realizes that he has become a slave race to them, and the entire universe hates him now and has declared war on him. He ends it with something like this: "The happy ray is no longer affecting me, as I have built up a tolerance, once it wears off I have no idea what I will do." He then goes to his home system, talks about how beautiful it is, and causes the star to go supernova, destroying his world and his people. Basically "Yeah I can cure my depression, in the short term, but the longer I use it the more of a tolerance I will build to it, and since it's only effect is to make me feel normal anymore, once it wears off i'll become so much worse then I ever was before."

@@karu As fas as i understand it, if it was translated right, he learned to heal the inside of his body, when he drank the water and got sick. Which would make sense IF muscles were not inside the body as well, so.. uuh... Could maybe make an argument for the other inner organs like stomach, beeing deeper inside the body than muscles, so its harder to heal to that depth.

In the manga, his initial training is absolute torture. He's literally training himself until his muscles are tearing, then just healing the tears. And he's forced to do this by his master. It doesn't even end that he's strong enough it doesn't hurt or anything, it's just that he gets used to the pain, so it's no biggie. Which is a legitimate thing. I haven't watched the show, but the manga was pretty good.

To be honest, I started watching isekai because of the power fantasy. It’s always nice to have a story that does something a little different though. Jobless Reincarnation is fantastic because the MC is powerful, but not the strongest. The MC also deals with a lot of stuff that you would never expect, and seeing him overcome and grow is truly satisfying. Just read the books, they’re so damn good. There’s also AI generated audiobooks as well.

I’m only annoyed because I’ve seen them done often, forgetting that jobless was the og powerful fantasy MC anime that paved the way for the many tropes. At least jobless does them for a reason, like MC being a pervert because he’s a piece of shit or certain topics being a huge part of the economy with various industries and politics at play. Much more willing to forgive a trope that has a reason and not something like smartphone’s “yeah he can kinda just do that, girls love him lol”

@@dooniashard ascendance of a bookworm is pretty good. an absolute nerd gets isekaied to a fantasy world in a little girl's body and uses basic knowledge people would accumulate just existing in our world to reinvent simple but potentially world changing tech. while the main character is _technically_ powerful and _far_ more knowledgeable than any human in her new world likely is; it isn't a crappy power fantasy. she can't really do anything with her power since she doesn't magically know how to do something just because she has the raw energy, and she has to deal with a lot of political and economic dynamics that she doesn't really understand.

Late but for the venom and the “doesn’t run out until the fight is over”, MC didn’t expel the venom from his body, he only stalemated it. The contaminated water was just an example for the MC to learn from(how to heal something internally attacking him). Also, Rose still had to be the one to kill it, because MC was going to lose because he ran out of juice before it was dead.

I would love to see someone talk about "Weakest tamer goes on a journey to pickup trash" (Yeah!! Great job on the title guys). It is a journey of a girl who got the short end of the straw when it came to her blessings and a slime that is so weak that a mere gust of the wind could kill it. This is neither a power fantasy nor a revenge story. It is an adventure of a girl (disguised as a boy) travelling to find her place in the world.

My first isekai was studio clamp "Rayearth" the concept was good, the main characters aren't op but have the potential to become strong, but not to the point they can beat anything with ease, the story/plot was basic but for the time period it was something fresh (at least for most people back in the early 90s) the support cast was memorable and the bgm was really good, the main characters have decent development and the visuals where good as well, unlike many isekai now, Rayearth takes its time unwrapping the whole concept of being transported to a different world for a purpose, new isekais however, just transport the mc for no reason or explanation, he/she just appears, we don't even get much information about the MC past or at least a proper back story, and the support cast is very two-dimensional and shallow, sometimes the show tries to put many elements at once that is hard to keep up with everything, until this day I only know like 3 characters names from the support cast in Overlord, while I do like the trhope of the overpowered mc, it's also a gimmick that gets dull pretty quick.

"Gekai Elise (Dr. Elise)" it's not the type of anime I usually watch and gave it a try and for me it ended up being very good exactly because it fits in a lot of what you describe (give character backstory, develop slowly her relation with the other characters, give her a real development as character, etc). It also doubles down as a double isekai in a proper way.

I know he mentioned in the video that there is no rhyme or reason to how healing works in The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, but Redo of Healer takes that same problem and makes it 100 times worse. In Redo of Healer, healing magic is used to dispel magic projectiles, change a person's appearance, alter a person's memories, time travel, unlock a door, and even heal wounds. That issue aside, I actually liked seeing Redo's protagonist take full advantage of his harem.

I also love how the fight is planned out in detail with frontliners and support mages instead of "I'm not the hero but just accidentally beat the crap out of the villain by myself so noone gotta fight them" or "you're the hero so get your ass out there and beat monsters yourself" the way of healing is also different, in other fantasy (not only isekai), the troops usually just got weak, and then just heal back up like nothing because the healer got some overpowered aoe healing stuff, while in here since medics are rare, they used other method to keep troops alive:train super fast runners who specialize in carrying the injured to base so the healers can help them

I’m the manga it does a better job explaining the healing himself thing of poison thing as he learned how to internally heal himself and did this over a few day repeatedly so he figures out how to internally when poisoned and he is still effected by it that’s why he couldn’t move after beating the first snake. And in the manga after he finishes a fight he is usually still standing unless he had to pretty much breakdown his body repeatedly win. When he beat the black knight in the manga he pretty much just got back to work and collapsed after the humans one because of the mental and physical fatigue of fighting in a war for the first time

They somehow made the girl likeable despite her backstory is "life is too easy for me oh woe is me" by her absolute excitement on the isekai and unmasking her "perfect beauty" impression. The militaristic vibe from Rose, Kyuumeidan, and the training routine is also something unique but still very realistic. The lack of fan service and purely rely on plot, comedy, and characters is a fresh air too.

Not all isekai have rpg elements and not all have op components. Or you only see the same subgenre within the isekai genre, or you see the others but you don't recognize them as isekai because they don't use the elements of the isekai that you see most.

Literally you were describing the premise of the first episode and it sounded exactly like "The Saint's Power is Omnipotent", but for guys. The Saint's Power is a shoujo isekai with a female protagonist and its more of a comfy, low-stakes isekai about a office worker that's just trying to do her best in a new world and finding happiness and purpose when she had previously been so lonely in her old world. I'd say if you don't mind watching shoujo with low-stakes, but has really likable characters and sweet relationship dynamics, maybe give it a watch. It's only 24 episodes and while some people might think of it as a reverse harem, to me it feels more like a girl just chilling with her friend group that just happen to be mostly guys. There's really only 2 guys MAYBE that actually like-like her, but that's pretty much it, and its pretty obvious from the get-go who the ML is supposed to be. Anyway, just a recommendation, although no isekais have come close to being the experience InuYasha was for me. Now THAT'S an isekai that actually explores the genre's potential outside of cheap fanservice, at least in my opinion.

I stumbled across this vid pretty late, but I'd been reading the manga for this anime and I have been enjoying it. Granted, the protag does inevitably become OP in that he has insane reflexes bordering on Spidey Sense, and he could suplex a damn bus with his insane strength, he does get a lot of enemies where full-frontal attacks aren't going to work on them, such as an undead dragon that breathes poison, and a cursed axe wielder who can summon a whole blizzard. That and the fact that he's not soloing everything, he depends on help from his allies and builds a bond with them because they work together. This IS an isekai, so it's inevitable that protagonist-kun gets some form of overpowered abilities, but he's not Goku or Naruto about to bust out some god-like power that could obliterate an entire nation. He's just a guy getting pulled from one task to the next.

That animation/parody is so on point it's funny and sad at the same time. Didn't watch the anime, but the manga is amazing. His abilities didn't feel out of place because he's constantly getting trained/abused for the first like 15 chapters. Maybe the anime cut too many of those scenes.

People who complain about OP main characters in isekai are missing the point. Isekai’s are mostly targetted at people in their 30’s who grew up reading shounen manga. As someone in his late 30’s who also grew up with reading manga… We’ve already DONE all our training montages - high school, college, internships, job hunting, night classes, certifications for specialization, promotions, trying to prove your value during layoffs, etc. We don’t need to be reminded anymore that it’s important to work hard. We’re just frustrated that after all that we’re still only moderately successful at best. We just want to enjoy the idea that all the hard work we’ve done might actually pay off some day.

This anime really connected with me. I (even thought I am out now) am a Navy Hospital corpsman FMF ground forces. Basically a combat medic for the USMC infantry. This anime reminded me of how my seniors were extremely though on us. They seen combat and knew the body needed to be hard. Even in TCCC training. I remember it was one of the most physically demanding courses. But it gave me a sense of accomplishment. Just taking my body and mind to the limit every day for weeks. This anime should really connect with any infantry medical branch of any military force.

They might have actually got the being able to cure a stomach ache from drinking water right if the healing magic allows him to recognise and eliminate foreign microorganisms from the antigens present so it would be a relatively small jump for the healing magic to recognise the venoms antigen and remove it from the body (this would only be true if it recognises all foreign antigens which are each a specific shape but because it’s magic also not too far fetched).

I got really fed up of isekais because they all seemed to be the same thing: dork goes to another world, huge harem begins, village gets flooded with juices. But there were 2 I recently gave a chance to, and I really enjoyed them as rather than becoming a huge harem with girls chasing the protagonist, they becamse sweet, feel good animes that focus on improving one's self and those around them, and they were "Farming Life in Another World" and "My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1". The first one I'm hoping a second season comes out as it really felt like a really cute and wholesome anime, with the male to female ration being very much a red herring as to where you think the story is going, and I would be interested to see the story expand. The second one was good, but felt a bit rushed. The seemed to want to put a lot of elements into the story that it was left with a lot of plot holes, and I'm hoping that gets a second season to round it off, but it was also a very heart filled cute anime. No real fanservice apart from a tiny bit in a specific moment, or a design liberty taken in one of the characters but doesn't actually go anywhere ecchi with it. They have simply restored my interest in a genre that was getting too much of the same.

07:28 Bro, this is fantasy, a common trope is spells having an universal effect, exemple: you heal a simple injury like a skin cut then you can heal any cut injury in the body regardless if its muscle, bone, nerves or cartillage with only using more mana. Also in fantasy videogames or TTRP a low level spell can heal: disease, paralisis, deafeaning, blindness AND poison, usually at the same time. I don't think it's fair calling immersion breaking or irrealistic being able to cure poisoning when the means used its literally magic.

i think the reason why he passed out after each battle is because of fight or flight. There are three stages of fight-or-flight: Alarm, Resistance and Exhaustion, the body's healthy response to a life-threatening crisis. This article explores the effect each stage has on the body and how it can, if left unchecked, lead to a loss of stamina and ultimately inflammation and exhaustion. as for why i think the healing worked for both venom and river water is due to cyanobacteria being present in the river water. Sometimes cyanobacteria is toxic and people can experience skin, eye, or ear irritation with contact. If toxic cyanobacteria is swallowed, it can cause stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, or nerve and liver damage. im gonna start watching the anime, it sound good from your description.
