They are rattle-less rattlesnakes, and are found on this island and nowhere else on earth!

What a gorgeous area and beautiful there and thank you Dav for sharing this trip with us all. I adore all snakes but as a member of RARR i highly encourage people to spread the conservation of the Rattlesnakes !! What incredible closeup captures you got of these beautiful and awesome Rattlesnakes !!

what dose rarr stand for I love rattlers had a Pygmy rattler a long time ago..now I only have three copperheads and a ball python

copperhead junkie It stands for Rise Against Rattlesnake Roundups. We advocate reforming traditional roundups in which hundreds and sometimes thousands of rattlesnakes are captured, and thrown into a pit. Roundups are like a fair with rides, vendors who sell food, etc, and entertainment, and the rattle snake pit. Many are killed after being starved, neglected and mistreated. We advocate reform to educational, no kill festivals. Roundups raise a lot of money for their communities which is put to good use. As difficult as it can be, we have to put our anger and disgust aside, in order to be able to communicate with and help educate folks who have grown up going to roundups and really don't realize why killing rattlesnakes is not a good idea. If you can't hold your temper, maybe the group isn't for you. That's not a criticism, I love snakes and it makes me nuts when people kill them, but I put it aside for the best interest of snakes. I didn't know rattlesnakes could de-evolve!! I didn't know rattlesnakes are nocturnal. We recently went to a museum in Arizona, and when the docent shined UV light on scorpions, they glowed in the dark.

Do they “think” they still have rattled? Why do other species mock the tail rattling ? Are they intelligent and have reasoned over millennia that rattlesnakes are particularly scary...so if I rattle, nobody will bother me, either?

So they have no rattles. Would you call it de-evolve, or evolving to their environment. I know some say they have evolved to become rattle less for hunting purposes... my personal thoughts though. Like many brick structures I’d not treated properly and cared for on a register basis, the salty sea water from rain, condensation, humidity... will start to break down. So with that in mind my theory is that the rattle snake has evolved to not have a rattle not for hunting purposes, and I wouldn’t call I’d de-evolution.. but that the salt water, and everything else I’ve mentioned prior is that it would have effects on the material that the rattle is made up of that eliminated their rattle. But who knows
