I was the same way at your age. In middle school, I'd call in and request my favorites on the " oldies" radio station so I could record them and make mix tapes. I still love it now at 45. 😊

How wonderfull. We would hear sometimes, just a snippet of a tune on the radio. The inspiration to save every last cent, so we could run after school to the local record bar. Hand over the earth metal in circles, and someone that you think is cooler than you. Because they are not wearing a school uniform, and they work in a record bar. Gives you a round piece of black plastic of magic. I hope you danced to it the first time you played it 😍

While Motown was a career-long home for many of its artists, the label was just one stop on the Isleys’ long path through the music industry. They were already known for “Shout” and “Twist and Shout” and had broken in a young hotshot guitarist (some flashy kid named Hendrix) before their arrival at Motown; they left in 1969 to start their own label and stretch their music in a new direction. This 1966 Holland-Dozier-Holland song was their sole hit in Detroit, but it’s a stunner, the definitive match of Ronald Isley’s sexy rasp and Motown’s pop precision.
