Best moment in countdown history: my Irish mate, vittorrio, was a contestant. One of his draws, the first 3 letters that came up were “I. R. A.” I haven’t laughed that hard in a LONG time.

I love that joke payoff at the end, after he spends the whole episode trying to tell the guy he's not a window cleaner; I work in IT, no mostly windows. Roy finally admits that he is indeed a window cleaner.

2:37 Yes it is Limmy, he spoke about that appearance on the RHLSTP podcast with Richard Herring, saying that he's had 2 appearances like that where he doesn't actually say anything but makes general vocal noises, this one in a Scottish accent and the other in a London accent

I’m American and have never seen Countdown but I got the references for The Matrix, Fight Club and Fast and the Furious plus some others. It’s like taking Jeopardy players and combining Fight Club lives.

So wonderful on a different scale to all other wonderful things …. The writing is just sublime , near 15 years old and still brings tears to my eyes while choking with laughter , Moss is the star in this show 👍🏴

Maybe the point of getting you to watch Countdown was to show that it's basically a nerdy show that mainly old people and the unemployed watch. It's not cool. That is contrasted in this episode where the countdown winners are portrayed as superstar gangster types.

'The Work Outing' is funny from start to finish.I cant think its a comedy that has given me more laughs per minute, Easily in my top 5 comedy episodes of all time.

Personally, I don't think anyone who grew up outside the UK can fully appreciate this episode. Countdown is just such a background part of our culture. I think it's the longest running TV show in history, and it's the subject of a bajillion cultural references in media and just in day to day life, all the time. It's a decent episode but relies on the premise that Countdown is a cultural touchstone for the viewer :)

I think watching the episodes of countdown meant that you understand how none gangster and cool countdown is and how the episode taked in another context. That you wouldnt think of countdown in.

Not sure who told you Countdown would be interesting to watch. It's only interesting when 8 out of 10 cats do it. It's very much the sort of show pensioners watch. I quite like anagrams and quick mental maths but I don't think I've properly sat down to watch it either.

Not really surprising that you didn't get most of the Countdown plot, unless you really know and have watched Countdown for the last forty years and know of all the cultural references the personalities, the cult following as well as the high regard that the show is held in, that people don't play to win a large sum of money and much more, it might not seem that big of a deal.

This is a good episode but I feel it’s overhyped. I can think of about 10 other episodes I enjoy more than this one. Just my honest opinion.

I don't think you need to have watched countdown for this to be funny. Maybe yeah having a basic understanding of what countdown is help which you'll have had. There's probably movies that it's more helpful to have seen than a full episode of countdown.

Again, your a lucky man, not many foreigners I.e, yourself, yet we see you as a cousin from across the pond, a colonial cousin, that is, Now the fact you've seen countdown, puts you in a very special place as not many people if any from America have seen countdown, it wouldn't be very popular there as it entails making up words that are in the English dictionary, so for many in America this would be very hard to do, as its hard enough for them to speak the language let alone spell some words in there intended ways not like some words the Americans butchered leaving out letters in some words and calling them America "ised", which means spelt the wrong way, yet won't admit it,,,, Not hating on yourself, or your fellow peoples, as we know your trying your best, Sorry only taking the piss, no harm intended,
