Well... he was basically pushed and beaten into perfection... You know Edison famously stated "genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration". In Michaels case, quite a part of that 99% was made up out of tears and blood as well. I get your point though, there was definately talent and he was arguably the greatest entertainer in pop music to date. Just wanted to emphasise on the fact his dedication wasn't entirely voluntary, to say the least, which, to me, makes the statement he was "born to be on stage" a bit dubious.

Pretty common back then. The record companies put their artists on shows like this as an advertisement for the record. They wanted people to know what they were going to get. The two shows that DIDN'T ever let them do that was Don Kirchner's Rock Concert and Midnight Special; always a live performance, and sometimes the best versions of those songs.

I think that Who's Loving You, which was originally done by Smokey Robinson, is easily the Jackson Five's greatest song, and Michael's best performance as a singer, young or older. He's masterful on the first the first word! Even voice teachers can't master the way he delivers the word "When"! First word of the song!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Collins_Kids You really should check out The Collins Kids, who helped build early rock and roll, and were teen/preteen contemporaries of Elvis. Twelve year old Larry and fifteen year old Lorrie Collins (in these particular videos), were a staple on west coast TV shows, especially The Town Hall Party, a Los Angeles TV show. Larry was given the world's second double necked guitar, with his name on the neck of it because of how good he was. He was a guitar virtuoso and child prodigy. And was further trained by guitar master Joe Maphis, who had the world's first such fancy guitar. He quickly equaled, then surpassed his teacher on the guitar. Lorrie and Larry Collins were, just prior to this, tough farm kids from rural Oklahoma. Which probably goes a long way in explaining how little Larry could lug around, and dance while playing that massive and VERY heavy double necked guitar, which probably weighed close to half what he did, and still make it look easy. He was a tough little farm kid, made of muscle and sheer grit. And he was a firecracker on stage, known for being rambunctious and always amusing. His sister looks older than she is, but she's about fifteen years old in these videos. Circa 1956. "Johnny B Goode" The Collins Kids, (on live TV) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMmKZLeKurGchGw.html "St Louis Woman/Blues Medley (Larry ad lib comedy bits)", The Collins Kids, (on live TV) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sJ-Wn5acp-Ccm3U.html In the second video above, the kids start off slow, with a Blues song from their parents generation. Twelve year old Larry, impatient to get to the fast rockabilly interpretation of the Blues song that he loves, plays the clown, to the delight of the audience, and the bemused, and (probably feigned) annoyance of his more serious, femme fatale looking sister, who looks 18 or 20, but is only 15 here, and seems to be wanting to take the song more seriously. She loves her little brother though, and knows his improvised, comic showboating is an enjoyable part of the act for the audience, both in the auditorium and those watching the absolutely live TV show at home. So she plays along with his act, even when he gets himself in too deep with his clowning. The two are spectacular here, which is the norm for their highly talented performances. I SINCERELY hope that you do both of these. But please start off with Johnny B. Goode. I think that will be the best way to kick it off. Btw, I don't know of any other reactors who have done The Collins Kids yet. So probably you could be the "original reactor" if you do it soon. I guarantee you that these forgotten early rockabilly (proto-rock and roll) stars will NOT disappoint you! They were famous almost 15 years before the J5 came along. Kids helped build rock and roll, and perhaps they can help restart it some day. If you reactors help inspire them to do so, by showing the kids who watch your show, what they can aspire to do. The Collins Kids, like The Jackson 5, are a great way to illustrate to the younger generation what they could build their own abilities up to be able to do, if they try hard enough. We could have another musical golden age, if the young people decide to try to build one. >>>EDIT: I may have over-estimated their ages, according to Wikipedia. I had previously read, I believe, that they were 12 & 15 here. But Lorrie was born on May 7th, 1942, which means she'd have been 13/14 in 1956. And Larry was born October 4th, 1944. Which would almost certainly make him 11 years old here, or at most, barely 12. There's about 2.5 years between them. This only makes their performances in these videos even more impressive.
