I mean, for 40k you're getting a luxury suv with all wheel drive and a turbo diesel engine that gets 36mpg. For a little more you're getting it with the supercharged v6 from the f-type. And it's a really good looking vehicle. I think jag did great with these

I love my Jag F-Pace, this is a fair review of it although I clearly like the car more than Doug does. I would mention that it does GREAT in ice and snow--better than any other AWD SUV I've owned to date (Acura MDX, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Nissan Murano). I love being able to switch from ice/snow mode in the winter to dynamic mode in the spring and summer. If I were living in a climate where I didn't need AWD, I'd have a Jag sportscar but this is a great compromise for the Midwest climate. ;)

It's closer in comparison to the Macan not the Cayenne.

My dad had a 2008 XF for over 10 years and the rising gear selector never broke once - in fact the only part of the car that ever broke was the fuel pump (a £30 part) and a flat tyre. Absolutely loved that car.

The reason why the door isn’t locking is because you’re supposed to tap the circle in the door handle. The key icon that you're hitting is to use the key to manually lock the car.

Despite its weaknesses I still think the F-Pace is one of the better looking luxury SUV's out there. Doug's sample wasnt the best color nor did it have the best looking wheel option but properly configured the F-Pace can be a very attractive vehicle.

I typically agree with Doug, but having driven the F-Pace myself, I found it to be far above average. It was very comfortable, it was quick, had a fantastic exhaust note, and is rated as second in its class below the Porsche Macan (not the Cayenne, because it doesn't compete with the Cayenne). He keeps comparing the car to cars that are out of its class and far out of its price range. The Range Rover Sport SVR is over $100,000 with options. A Cayenne S is well over $75k with options. Even the base model RR Sport costs more than the highest trim available on the F Pace. To answer Doug's sort of passive aggressive swipe at engine options, Jaguar is producing a 575-hp F-Pace to be released in 2018 and revealed sometime this year, or early 2018. Honestly Doug, this review was below "average".

JLR Product Specialist here. You have to touch the circular divot to unlock the door. The key logo is telling you where to insert the manual key if need be.

Don't know why people are comparing F-Pace with sports car? I mean c'mon. For me it's the best all round SUV after Range Rover Sport.

Been driving the 2017 F-Pace 35T for a few years now, I would agree with the averageness of this vehicle in its stock state. I decided to upgrade a few basic components like a wider less restrictive air intake, swapped the crank pulley with a larger one along with the idler and tensioner belt. Tuned it very lightly for better throttle response and shift points etc. and included some 1 inch spacers for a wider ride. The total cost of all these upgrades was around $2200 CAD. I was unsure about the new performance numbers so I brought it to a local tuner for dyno testing and it now sits at 440hp 430ft-lb. (up from the stock 340hp / 332ft-lb). Interior build quality aside, this is now a fantastic performance SUV, and in my opinion it could be considered a mini SVR as it creeps closer to the highest performing model (550hp V8) with a generously lighter curb weight. All of my performance parts were purchased from Mina Gallery, based out of California. Their customer service is insane, I've never been more comfortable ordering parts and asking questions than I am with these guys.

It's competition is X3, Q5, GLC and Macan. Do not compare it to those bigger SUVs

Just a slight correction, if I may; the "london phone box in the wilderness" is called a red phone box, and is a British icon, just like you folks have apple pie and mickey mouse, probably why Jaguar used it. The red phone boxes have now all been phased out and so hold great nostalgia. Every town and village (a.k.a. wilderness, lol) had a red phone box in the 50's to 80's they are not just for London.

Hi Doug, I made the same mistake on my F-pace. You don’t hit the “key” symbol to lock it, you just press the small dot next to it. It works flawlessly

I would like to see what Doug thinks about the new F-Pace SVR with the V8. This particular model also has all the basic tech, it doesn’t have the best infotainment or the full screen dashboard I would personally want to see a review on some of the better tech stuff with Jaguars.

I'm not claiming this SUV is amazing by any means but I often believe you come up with a conclusion/title first and then just tailor your review to suit rather than actually reporting what it's truly like. With the keyless lock you have to press the indented bit on the handle not just anywhere. Also it sounds like a V6 cos it is a V6...why compare to a Cayenne etc for speed when they're not in the same class too?

The button is a safety while driving with snow, used in mountains, with iced roads there was no way to stop with the brakes but pressing the button stopped the car in safety. There is a whole option page fro the light and it can change the color, you can't find it in the small screen (it has a much better 12 inch one as a optional). The key logo is there to show that under there you can find the mechanical lock.

When I take my Range Rover for service I get a Jaguar F Pace and I love it. It is easy to maneuver, quiet and amazingly quick. This is for 2019 Jaguar F Pace SuV. I can recognize a Jaguar in the street, not longer you could a Mercedes because they all look like their cheaper Asian competitors

Whatever you say. All I know is that I love my F-Pace. Sold my BMW X5 which I had for 8.5 years. Owned other BMW and few MBs. After F-Pace I don't think I'll be going back to German cars... I do like BMW but I'm tired of knowing when and what is going to brake next...

The key probably didnt work because the battery is low. Edit: The keys battery, not the cars.

The key not being recognized as "in the car" AS WELL as the entry system not working 100% of the time just means that it is time for a new battery in the key fob. My VW did this, a new battery fixed the problem. the security feature of the remote uses a transistor that doesn't need the battery, so the vehicle will still start.

the keyless locking works completely reliably on my XE, you just have to touch the "circle" not the key icon thing, the key icon does nothing when you touch it. Only the circle next to it works
