His bass stands out on every Jam song. He is a terribly underrated bassist and one of my favourites as well. The Jam reuniting is actually at the top of my music wish list, but it will never happen and sadly, antifolkhero, the chances of them touring the US is less than 0.

never ceased to amaze me how whatever the lads wore on stage/tv/videos/posters etc.would be all over your local high street a week later..list..Boating blazers, Lonsdale, Fred perry, Ben sherman, even Ricks r,w.n blue striped pullover, paisley shirts/scarfs Crombys, Harringtons, sta prest, two tone suits, red denim jkts...not to mention the shoes, jam/stage shoes were EVERYWHERE, went through 3 pairs, badger shoes, bowling shoes, D.M.shoes, loafers, boxer boots, Chelsea boots, desert boots..The Jam didnt just set the bar for chart music..they influenced the entire fashion scene..have we ever seen such a movement since..crazy wonderful days.

I can remember all the Jam T.O.T.P appearances, but to my recollection don't remember this one. I had the single in picture cover when it came out around the time I left school. Nice surprise, to see it though.

Best Jam 7". Dark and sinister, and then the chorus kicks in. Going for the Ska keyboards, and then the guitar (not the first bit - you know which bit I mean). BEST.

Lyrics Found myself in a strange town Though I've only been here for three weeks now I've got blisters on my feet Trying find a friend in Oxford Street I bought an A to Z guide book Trying to find the clubs and YMCAs But when you ask in a strange town They say don't know, don't care And I've got to go, mate They worry themselves about feeling low They worry themselves about the dreadful snow They all ignore me 'cause they don't know I'm really a spaceman from those UFOs You've got to move in a straight line You've got to walk and talk in four four time You can't be weird in a strange town You'll be betrayed by your accent and manners You've got to wear the right clothes Be careful not to pick or scratch your nose You can't be nice in a strange town Cause we don't know, don't care And we got to go, man Rush my money to the record shops I stop off in a back street Buy myself a snort We got our own manifesto Be kind to queers And I'm so glad the revolution's here It's nice and warm now! I've finished with clubs where the music's loud Cause I don't see a face in a single crowd There's no one there I look in the mirror But I can't be seen Just a thin, clean layer of mister sheen Looking back at me Oh, oh Found myself in a strange town Though I've only been here for three weeks now I've got blisters on my feet Trying find a friend in Oxford Street I bought an A to Z guide book Trying to find the clubs and YMCAs They say don't know, don't care And I've got to go, mate They worry themselves about feeling low They worry themselves about the dreadful snow They all ignore me 'cause they don't know I'm really a spaceman from those UFOs Strange town Break it up Burn it down, shake it up Break it up

As I recall, Weller was a vocal opponent about the forced miming that bands had to do on these shows. Most musicians hated it (and still do - Imelda May thanking Graham Norton for letting her play live comes to mind), and intentionally flaunting the lip sync by playing instruments poorly, or upside down, (or Weller's chewing gum), was a kind of protest against having meet contractual obligations in such a degrading manner.
