The Bob Marley Songs, ‘Revelation Song’ and ‘Buffalo Soldier’ never took on as much meaning as when I went to Central America and took American History in Costa Rica. In my text book was demographic charts that really put the whole slavery scene into perspective for me. What I saw was something like this: During the later part of the eighteenth century, not many Africans had been migrated to Jamaica, nor Barbados, Trinidad, nor any places in the Caribbean. But then something happened. In my own words I would say it like this, “the authorities who dictated just how many ‘black-African slaves’ could be accommodated must have been concerned with just quite how many were being brought for the slave trade, since populations of Africans in those places in the Caribbean just suddenly exploded.” It wouldn’t have ever made sense to me to listen to those Bob Marley songs, but since I saw those charts for myself, those numbers really told me a lot about how close the population distributions were being watched, and how hard the rulers were working to force those populations to spread according to their designs. Really something amazing I think. THANKS FOR SHARING!!
