Japan, the birthplace of Hello Kitty, Super Mario, Sushi… and fetishes of a physical nature that seem wholly Japanese. It’s a country renowned for walking to the beat of its own drum, a cultural oddity in some respects, but with a society that goes to great pains in being polite, civilized, clean, and deferent to customs. Walking around almost any city, you won’t find trash on the ground, and you won’t need to fear being harassed or beaten up for the way you look, or for the few dollars in your pocket. Japan is on the whole smart, convenient, and safe. But then it also has some of the most feared and formidable gangsters on the planet. Who are they? What do they do? That’s what we’ll find out, in this episode of the Infographics Show, Most Dangerous Japanese Gangs.

The Infographics Show I think it’s just another manipulation tactic for example act nice and everybody will be happy and forgiving to there misdeeds. But if you wrong them then the house they had given you will be taken away and those people might end up in a huuuuuge loan it sort of like saying “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” and people can’t really say much about them cause of that.

Only in Places like Japan, Philippines, and Colombia to name a few, those places they gangs are formed due to corruption around them and they help the populous. But not here in America, while the CRIPS, for example, was forged in the same manor CRIPS=> Citizen Resistance In Progress, it abandoned its main purpose and took a different rout

That's typical because the government is a bureaucracy whilst Yakuza are street level gangs. Yakuza own the streets and can do "real" things faster than government who need deliberation and paperwork to get stuff done. Also, being loved by the common Japanese is a plus for the Yakuza. Being seen as enemies is bad.

When I lived in Japan, a local coffee shop that I went to had to pay "protection money" to the Yakuza every month. This wasn't a chain, like Starbucks, but just a local coffee shop owned by some friends. They don't really steal from the rich and give to the poor, because stealing from the rich is quite difficult. They usually own host/hostess bars, brothels, etc. I saw them on the street, and everyone knew they were the Yakuza. They never caused me any problems or anything. Also, I knew many Snack bars that had to pay them monthly for "protection money" as well. If you open a non-chain place in or near downtown in a city, you will most likely have to pay this.

the Yakuza prevents petty crime in Japan. That is why there isn't an high rate of petty crime in japan (Robbery/Mugging/Thiefs, Assaults, etc), or even a high rate of crime in Japan period. Infact, many people have said before that the safest nightlife spots are ruled over by the Yakuza. I remember hearing once that when someone had wanted to go clubbing with a few friends, their grandparents told them to head to certain clubs that were all ran by the Yakuza.

@alexd4566
@alexd4566 5 жыл бұрын
@@Max200012 Let's start with the obvious: high suicide rates. The social pressure to do well in school and the workplace is extremely high. You're shunned by society and bullied by your peers if you don't achieve great things. In fact, the number one cause of death in teens is suicide. It's a major national issue that stems from the Japanese culture of (family) honor and dignity. (ex. : seppuku, kamikaze...) Another major social issue is racism. Japanese people tend to see themselves as superior to other races and aren't that welcoming to foreigners. They are especially vile towards black people and their reasoning is coloured by prejudice and preconceived ideas. I've met only a handful of pleasant and genuinely kind Japanese people in my trips to Japan. My third (personal) reason is the crowds. There’s nothing more disgusting than being glued to strangers in a train that smells of body odor and old booze. The trains do have a modern design (technology is far more advanced in Japan than in the West) but they smell AWFUL and if you're claustrophobic, you won't last one trip without getting a panic attack. Besides, if you're female, you shouldn't take the train alone because there are A LOT of perverts on there. My last argument is the expenses. Japan is the most expensive country in Asia. Though, if you stick to local (street and market) food and drinks (oyaki, tayiaki, sushi, sake..), the price is comparable to that in the West. Beer and accomodations are very pricey.

alex Debroux What kind of drugs you smoke.? Japan was in number 14 top suicide rate country. That's far from "high suicide rates". Japan is xenophobic country. Their nationality is still 90% japanese. And their perception of foreigners come from stereotype. The same way you americans stereotype asians and middle eastern in US. As for your third point. That only happens in BIG city like Tokyo. Go to county area,the train is pleasant ride. If you're just a tourists, stop moving around in rush hour, that's when they packed like sardine in tokyo trains.

As for calling yakuza "extreme path (wicked)", we Japanese call it Gokudo (極道: Goku = extreme, Do(u) = way/path), not Goduku. There's no such a word as "Goduku" in Japanese. It seems like you have Godoku (誤読) the word (Godoku means "misreading" or "misinterpreting.") ;)

I went to Japan a couple months ago and was surprised to learn that people with tattoos weren't allowed into a lot of saunas/bath houses. My sister and I had to look for alternative ones and most of the people there had tattoos and were foreigners. I asked a local about the tattoo rule and they said tattoos can symbolize the gangs & many places won't allow you in if they see you with them. Thankfully, no one can see mine unless I want you to and undress

Great video! You've got yourselves a new subscriber, *BUT* ... there were a few mistakes here _(in fact more than a few if you count both spelling errors and the mispronunciation of all of the Japanese words)_ that I'd like to correct. 1. The term _"goduku"_ is wrong and means nothing; the correct term is _"gokudo"_ 2. A ronin was not a master samurai, but rather a masterless samurai (ronins were part of the lowest social class* in feudal Japan and generally despised by all, as traditionally masterless samurais should've committed seppuku _[ritual suicide]_ as a sign of allegiance to their passed master and not doing so was considered the most disgraceful act a samurai could've committed) 3. Yubitsume (finger cutting) was not introduced in early Yakuza history to weaken your sword grip, but rather due to East Asian cultures forbidding left-handedness (the sword gripping factor was only part of Japanese swordsmanship culture) + I think it could also have been worth mentioning that the Yakuza consists largely of ethnic Koreans and societal outcasts (burakumin), but I can't argue omitting this is a mistake *The social hierarchy of feudal Japan was the following: 1. The emperor (he was thought to be a direct descendant of the sun god Amaterasu, yet was merely a figurehead wielding little political power) 2. Shoguns (military dictators and the de facto leaders of Japan) 3. Daimyos (feudal lords controlling large parts of Japan) 4. Samurai (noble warriors serving daimyos) 5. Common people (90% of the society, this class includes peasants, crafters etc.) 6. Ronin, hinin (hinin translates to "nonperson", but it stands for criminals, geishas, beggars and so on; masterless ronins were unable to find any work, so they often became mercenaries and violent thugs bringing a stigma upon the class as a whole)_ Some sources may state ronins were equally or even more respected than common folk of feudal Japan, but based on pre-Meiji accounts they seem to be considered as disgraceful as criminals. Ronins couldn't get any jobs so they often turned to petty crime. As a result of both this and the perceived dishonoring of their masters, their status in the social hierarchy kept deteriorating as time passed. Other than that I really enjoyed the narration and animations here. Easy to digest and educational. Keep it up! And yes, I did misspell at least _ronin, shogun and daimyo_ writing this comment by not using macrons.

Okay this may sound fake but, one day my mum and I were having lunch at a restaurant, and I started talking about wanting to go to Japan. Because my mum is an ex-opera singer and still teaches singing, she was reminded of once when she was doing an opera called carmen she was at a cafe when 2 guys walked up dressed very well and asked here were she came from because she looked like she was foreign and asked if they could practice there English with her. She said yes and they had a very polite conversation. Later she went back to were she was staying and one of the guides started telling her of for talking to strangers because apparently that part of the town was a bit dodgy, and it just so turned out that the were part of the yakuza and was told off for it. She was unharmed and not fazed by the experience.

Only a rare few criminal organizations were wise enough to recognize the value of community outreach. I know you do not know about Yakuza's origin! Yakuza originally came from the civil engineering industry. In medieval Japan, the feudal lords who stood against each other built many castles to defend each other. In order to build these cities, a lot of labor and resources were mobilized, and naturally the formation of power and merchants was formed. In addition, a middle management layer was created to mobilize and manage large-scale personnel. Here, Japanese Yakuza, which means "manager", appeared. In the Tokugawa era of the newly emerged Tokugawa era, the fangs of the battlefields, the Ronin who drifted away without their masters, and the stupid young men climbed without measures in the countryside that had been wrecked by the warlords were absorbed by Yakuza. If he is a member of a community that is the head of this Yakuza, it will help to train and settle these clumsy people, but if he is a bad person or belongs to the dark world, he will have no choice but to become a criminal . In other words, Yakuza was a candidate for a job seeking job in the commercial society of Japan and a candidate for a loser who had fallen from the normal route. In other words, their birth can not be a warrior. And to argue that they maintain the order of society is indeed a duty to the power to maintain the situation. However, unlike the police and military forces, Yakuza is an unofficial and illegitimate supporter of power and a living person. This is precisely because Yakuza is opposed to unjust power, but also because he receives terrorism from terrorists, intervenes in various interests, and bribes illegal politicians.

Agreement, the best gang is the one that manages to be tolerated by the establishment. They arent flamboyant with their affiliation, past, or current activities and infact secretive to the point that nothing is discussed in common lingo. They can keep order, a code of silence, play the fool, give convincing false intel, keep tradition, and have unforgiving justice practices. I find the comparison to a giant corporation ironic - in America Corperations run the government, but the difference between the Yakuza and Monsanto/Exxon/Etc. is that the Yakuza helps its people, and they see outsiders (no matter race, ethnicity, gender, nationalism, religion) as a human being.

I think because SEGA made a game called Yakuza. Its a franchise that is about the life of a yakuza. It also has a prequel called Judgement/Judge eyes, set in the same universe but different story. Even the actual yakuza approved the accuracy of the game.

If intrested in the Yakuza check out Sega's Yakuza games by legendary games designer Toshihiro Nagoshi as they are most exellent and give a insight into the Yakuza world akin to how The Sopranos shows the inner working of the mob.

The only thing I know about the Yakuza is that they like Karaoke and hitting men in black suits with motorcycles
