Was Jerrod wrong for confronting his dad?
@naturalcommentary721

Jerrod has already confronted his father in the docuseries called "Home Videos" on Max. They have talked about the cheating with his mom, brother, sister-in-law, pastor, and other family members. He even met his half-brothers and sisters in the series. There was no point in this conversation. He is trying too hard to blame his father for his bad behavior. He blames his father for his own cheating. This is Jerrod's mess, not his father's mess. His father does have some bad traits. We all have bad traits because we are human. He has also shown his love for his son by stating that he accepts him as a gay man. Jerrod is beyond selfish, and I do not believe that he is a sex addict or narcissist. He knows that his money and fame give him the ability to behave badly. No one can do anything about it.

@@naturalcommentary721 you are so right he is trying to use his father as a scapegoat for his bad behavior. I am also glad that I am not the only one who thinks that he is not a narcissist. He use the cameras to get away with doing whatever and saying whatever.

This episode was A LOT … To answer your question: I don’t think wanting to have this conversation is wrong but the approach was wrong. I am interested in finding out if he wants a better relationship with his parents? Did you hear when he said he needed the cameras in order to express himself? I found that to be so interesting treating f the cameras as a security blanket. Also when he said he wasn’t welcome to a house he is paying for smh my jaw dropped. Another great reaction!

He uses a lot of things as power and somewhat manipulation. The whole comment about him paying for his parents house was so unnecessary. And I do believe the cameras really are an excuse for him to get away with his behavior. And that is a great question. Does he want a better relationship with his parents?? Thank you for the positive feedback on my video 💕💕

@@Innerchild.Whisperer I agree somewhat. I don’t just see the house comment as just about how much they are dependent on him. But rather as you pick and choose what to accept about me. Like a you accept my money, and all of these things that I take care of for you. But when it comes to actually accepting who I am as a person (being gay, queer etc.) you refused to. And in a way it is true. I’m paying for you house, even though I wouldn’t even be able to live my authentic true in it. I wouldn’t be able to bring home the person I plan to marry.

You are brilliant! Please add the Jerrod reactions into their own playlist. It will help people find you. Everyone should be watching your reactions, as they are by far the most thoughtful and fully-formed.

Personally, I don’t think he is wrong for having this conversation either. However, the approach was horrible and honestly I felt that Jerrod was acting the same way. Which is you are going to go along with my way, or else your house, health insurance, and everything else that I pay for is going up in flames. These actions that he takes showed an even more financially abusive side of Jerrod. Especially seeing his father break down and Jerrod’s refusal to stop the cameras. And then hearing his father repeat “I knew it”. Made me believe that he was forced to do the show. And that Joe’s (the dad) worse fear of his flaws being bared on national TV was lived out again. Because I am assuming from the way that his dad asked if this was “goign to be in his special” that his parents/family are already seeing the effects of his specials in real life. Especially when Jerrod came out as gay and he talked about his mother rejecting him. If I am being honest this episode especially the latter part of these episode was triggering to watch. As his father is close to having a mental/emotional breakdown to the point where he retreats into himself. And his son just like frustrated because he refuses to talk anymore. And in a way, you could argue that his father went nonverbal in that moment due to stress and fear that Jerrod’s pressuring caused. It was bit overwhelming to watch to be honest. And it seems like once again Jerrod believes that everything can just be solved with money/fame. In a way, you could argue that this is his payback against his dad who made him feel small during this childhood.

1. Thank you for engaging. So I’ll break this up into two parts. I too felt when his father said I knew this was gonna happen. I wonder if it took a lot of convincing for him to actually be on camera. And it’s also interesting to see Jerrod in someways act like his father. I wonder also how the camera crew fell being in that moment. It felt like we were not supposed to be there much like a lot of the other scenes throughout this season.

2. Thank you for your vulnerability. I can see how this can be really triggering for someone as a child and or as a parent. His father really to me turn into a little boy wanting to go home. Instead of stopping the cameras once again we saw Jerrod make it about his self. His father went fight/freeze/fawn mode.

@@Innerchild.Whisperer yes, and that is the reason why I honestly feel like the cameras should’ve stopped before it got to that point. because you are actively traumatizing your family. Like at the end of the day, you still have to talked them after the cameras go away. I just feel like this was the worst possible way to go about talking about not being accepted. You can’t just force somebody to accept you just because you have money that is not how that works. And you can’t just use cameras as a method of dodging accountability.

Where I'm from we call this behavior, “showing out" aka being overly performative aside from your true nature; being besides youself. He's showing out for the camera for his own selfish reasons. He's exploitive, and desperate for spotlight. He wants that shock value to get engagement for his brand. Why not just take the time to come up with actual impressive concepts for episodes? Its almost as if he scrolls in his contacts to see who else from his past he can USE for content before the camera crew arrives. What an artistic cop out. They need to give someone else the chance to express themselves on these platforms, maybe someone with a vision. The show is embarrassing, not because of “vulnerability”, but because he's merely using the term to cloak bad behavior. Jersey Shore is more “vulnerable" than this MESS. We're not really seeing his "life", (if we were given the chance we'd see him scrolling on his phone for hours, probably cleaning the bathroom.. everyday monotony) instead we're shown carefully organized footage of him creating issues/ripples in his relationships for media attention. For him to compare this to an attempt at being a modern day Truman Show is a REACH. He'll do & say anything at anyone's expense for attention/ MONEY . Its gross to watch. The only charm the show has is the cinematic quality coming from production..take that away we're left with drama king who's “showing out" for views. Also...every standup he did lacked any punchline, just trauma dumping with awkward laughter with no delivery or comedic nuance. It almost reminded me of the comedian's onstage breakdown scene from the baby reindeer series

Wow, what a thorough response! After watching most of the season … it does feel like at times he went through his contacts to see who he can get to come on the show. Going back to episode one where his friend with the mask made comments about the show being real is coming to light. at times it does feel like he is using people around him for the show! There is an interesting comparison between Donnie and Baby Reindeer and Jerrod. I think both are searching for some acceptance and to be seen. Except Jerrod does at the cost of relationships. At times, Jerrod is exploitative. Hearing that he did not warn Jamar before about the show is pretty crazy!

I'm curious to hear your perspective on his "i need the cameras to help me process" viewpoint. he is a self-proclaimed exhibitionist and i think it's somewhat wrapped up in his artistic identity. I feel like there is some part of him that is using this in a way that probably isn't the most healthy? I agree that he's not wrong for wanting to have the conversation but he didn't consider what would even be the most effective way to actually get some answers from his father

He is using the cameras as an excuse for bad behavior. What happens to those relationships once the show is over. I wonder how many relationships he lost bc of he want to have the cameras always present. He is moving very selfishly. Without any regard for the feelings or needs of ppl who care about him.

I'm going to make the bold and possibly wrong assumption that you're not queer, but if I'm right, you're not understanding the hurt and fury just about all of us who grew up LGBTQIA+ carry inside us. We have been asked from childhood to adulthood to swallow our feelings of rejection and the conditional love we've received. Why? Because our parents still assume that we're less-than because we're queer. So it's our job to be grateful for scraps of love and to blame ourselves for the abuse we suffered. So yeah, I don't expect anything less than narcissism from a Hollywood type doing a reality show, but adjusting for that context, Jerrod's combination of love and anger for his father looks pretty understandable to me. I'm not black, I'm not American, I'm not a celebrity, but I still felt represented by Jerrod. This whole show is him trying (and often failing) to take responsibility for his life and come out as a better and more whole human being. And his father openly says, "I'm not going to do that. I won't think about the past or how it hurt anybody." Who's the selfish one? Look at the scene where his father is triggered by their arrival at the plantation and how Jerrod sees this and immediately jumps into caretaker mode.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. No I am not queer. I am a sis, gender, black woman nowhere or any of my videos. Have I ever tried to be something I am not. I have also said it many times that I’m here to understand why also educating others. I have a lot of queer clients. And though I have not lived, your experience are theirs, bad behavior bad behavior. Goes about justifying his trauma at times by hurting others. He doesn’t read the room I think about how these scenes could affect others in a long run. He’s more in the moment. And I think everyone has the right to confront their trauma and confront those who have caused it… There’s a way about it. When the show is all over, what relationship will be left?

This episode had me in tears at the end. When his dad asked, can I go home now it just broke broke my heart. It was such a tough conversation to watch because Jerrod was relentless. He did not read the room and he just unleashed on his father and it just really didn’t feel like a fair fight. And I don’t believe think his father came along to fight, we saw a vulnerable side to his father and knowing the fact that he had a second family, I know it’s hurtful for Jerrod and his childhood growing up but before his father is his father, he is a human and a person with his own story.
