From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, there was a seldom talked about Christian movement going on called the "Jesus People." It was a spin-off of the "Summer of Love" hippie movement. As hippies grew tired of bad drug trips, STDs, crime, and overcrowding, "Jesus Freaks" came together to form a religious movement that changed most of their lives...and revolutionized church's worship styles and altered attitudes towards these Christian counterculture young people.

I was part of this movement in '74. I came to Christ through an offspring church called 'the Shiloh Ministry". It came out of Calvery Chaple and move to Oregon. They set up a series of "Christian Communes" throughout the country. One landed in OKC. directly across the street from my house. My conversion was dramatic. It changed my life forever. Thank God for the Jesus movement.!!!

I was born again as a Jesus Freak in the early 70’s on the East Coast! We lived communally. Started out really really good but then the leader got a big ego and it turned into a cult. The early part of this movement was the best thing I did in my life! And guess what!!!! It’s coming back Praise God!!!!

@@poetaiberico Amen…it is coming back! Because Jesus is coming back! The traditional church did not see the coming glory in that movement and not only did not change their ways, but publicly criticized and condemned us. It was a foreshadowing of what is to come, because our Lord, Thee LORD, is coming back. They still have a chance to invite and welcome all the Holy Spirit has. May the God of love fill you.

Too bad. The heart of the movement was to get people off drugs and trying to live moral lives. Talk about a "Great Awakening."

That was "a blast from the past" and enjoyed this video. I came to be born again during "The Jesus Movement"(1969) thanks to Pastor Chuck Smith and Calvary Chapel, (the Shiloh youth ministry.) My husband also and it changed our lives forever. He is 75 and I turn 73 in a day and we're still believers following the Lord. "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever."(Hebrews 13:8)

I also was saved during the Jesus movement and never looked back. Life has been amazing. Satan worked hard on me because I was going to have a family of Jesus followers. The Holy Spirit was there for me through everything. I am still a Jesus lovin hippie freak 50 years later, still free of culture pressure, loneliness, carnal emptiness, love of stuff. Still given discernment and liberty of mandates and man's dictates and most importantly I am go grateful for the strangers who introduced me to Jesus as I came from a broken home. Sean feught is being called for revival it seems during these similar lost times. Let Us Worship will be at 50 capitals beginning this year. Come out and call God down on this sick and tormented world for healing and delivery from evil and to pray over His children and their future. Help us show it isn't about rules and regulation (religion) but a relationship of protection trust and love. To die once and be born twice and given eternity.

Well, Chuck was a very conservative pastor with a small congregation. It was a old school doctrinal church. Lonnie was an unrepentant homosexual and hippie that contracted AIDS and died from it. The whole movement was to influence the church to compromise the true gospel and make way for "love" and no repentance of sins. Did some people actually get saved from it? Maybe. Is it biblical what the movement was and what they are trying to push today? No, by a long shot. This is another gospel and another Jesus.

I had been a Christian since I was 10 or 11. But church wasn't anything more than people who went to church and seemed to put on an act. They would dress up for church and go home and then be themselves. Turned me off. In my Last couple years of high school the Jesus Movement entered my backwater town of The Dalles, Oregon. For the first time in my life I witnessed REAL people claiming Christianity. I started attending the Son House, operated by Bible Way, across the street from my high school. I was baptized as an infant in the Methodist church, but wanted to publicly confess my faith and actually experience it. I was baptized on the Columbia River. It was an amazing time. ONE WAY, brothers and sisters. Jesus lives and MARANATHA!

This was a nice piece of reporting. Factual and not overly romanticized. (As Sgt. Joe Friday often said, "Just the facts ma'am.") Even though I was from Holton, Kansas, my life was touched through much of what you've described. I vividly recall a classmate giving me a copy of the Hollywood Free Paper in '71 and for a while my "spiritual gaze" was toward the west, until the Lord showed me that He was just as active and accessible where I was in the Midwest. Half a century later I look back and see how faithful God has been to watch over me and guide me. Life with Christ is still brand new and only getting "newer!" Thanks again for posting this.

I'm a proud [yet humble :) ] Jesus Hippie. Having learned the key to releasing and experiencing God's love in my life, the movement may appear dead but I'm not. To this day I experience the deep warm rolling waves of God's golden mercy flowing in and through my life and I don't need drugs to do it. Want to feel what a Jesus Hippie feels? Always do the right thing. It's that simple. When you please your heavenly father he smiles down upon you. Every time God smiles, his mercy vibration flows through you. All-powerful, all cleansing, and all "YOU" have to do to activate this healing vibration is to rely on Jesus to help you always do the right thing. Are you happy inside? ✌P*E*A*C*E✌

I want people to pray about many things. There is a KZfaq show called Hillsong's Christless Christmas goes Bollywood. This Christmas show in Bollywood, India. It is a play done in Bollywood, India. They took 666 Satanic things, the Hindu religion, and made a Christmas play. Bollywood, India copied Hollywood, U.S.A. on this. India is also big into porn. In Hollywood, U.S.A. when celebrities quit show business they become Christians. In Bollywood, India when some celebrities quit the show business they become either Muslim or Hindu. Pray that they become born again Christians instead. Back in the 1970's there was a first Jesus movement. Young people at the California Beaches were using a lot of drugs. Pastor chuck Smith told them to come to Jesus and they did and they also stop using drugs. This first Jesus movement spread to the other 49 states and other countries. Sin had gotten so bad that the world needs a second Jesus movement. Please tell your friends, church, and family about a second Jesus movement. Here are some sins that are getting worse around the world. First the U.S.A. In the U.S.A. today I see more Transgenders, Gay Rainbow Flags, and porn compared in the past. At the collages transgenders, and gays get more respect than the U.S.A. military. Students from other countries see this at the collages and take it back to there countries. At work I was on break and I was watching the news and there was a funeral church service and the funeral church service talked about Bible verses and Gay rights together and millions of people could see this on T.V. The second one is Europe. I saw a show on KZfaq. named Muslim Demographics. It showed how many people from Islam nations are moving to Europe and having more kids than the native people of Europe, So by the year 2050 the largest religion Europe will be Islam. The third place is Cambodia. The nation of Cambodia has a lot of gambling casinos because they saw a lot of gambling casinos in Las Vegas. . . The forth nation is Taiwan. In Taiwan there is a Rock Star and Gay Rights Politician named Freddy Lim. In Taiwan the people found out that the U.S.A. had Gay Parades and Gay Rainbow Flags. So now in Taiwan they have Gay Parades and Gay Rainbow Flags. The fifth, worse and most sinful is Japan. There was a lady named Maria Ozawa. Her parents and grandparents were missionaries to Japan and started a Christian school in Japan. Her dad ran the school and married a Japanese women and had Maria Ozawa. She backslide and became one of the biggest porn stars in Japan. She gave the movies to her family. Now she does not talk to her family for a long time. This gives Christians a bad image in a nation that is one percent Christian. Prostitution and porn has gotten so big in Japan that it is a 24 billion dollar business a year in this nation. I watched a KZfaq show called Nobita from Japan and that is how I found out about this. Also in Japan some people were waving the Gay Rainbow Flags. Japan also has a girl Rock Band named Baby Metal. This girl Rock Band saw U.S.A. Rock Bands from the 1980's do Satanic stuff on stage, so now Baby Metal does Satanic stuff on stage. This girl Rock Band does not know how wrong this Satanic stuff is, Japan also opened a porn, amusement, theme park. Porn has gotten so bad in Japan that the age to be a porn star and consent is 13 years old. I was watching a Christian show called CBN News. The News show was talking about how collages are teaching students to hate the U.S.A. and the U.S.A. military. I use to have a job at Cal State San Bernardino Collage and I saw what CBN Christian News said and it was all true. We need to go to the collages and have crusades, revivals, and a second movement. There is a man named Kirk Nowery. He works with Hope Partners International. He helps kids in India to get away from sex trafficking. His website is www.hopepartners.org. There is a women named Annie Lobert and she works with Hookers for Jesus. She helps people to get away from sex trafficking in the U.S.A. Her website is hookersforjesus.net. Brittni De La Mora is a woman who helps people get off porn. Her website is www.brittnidelamora.com. On Facebook I meet a pastor from Japan and his name is Pastor Marcel Jonte Gedsden. He would like to meet Pastor Greg Laurie and Franklin Graham and a have a big Christian Crusade in Japan. Have Christian bands Alice Cooper, Brian Welch from Korn, Stryper, at the Crusade. Invite Baby Metal to the Big Christian Crusade and they are friends with Brian Welch. Japan loves Baseball and get some Christian Baseball players there. Porn is also big in Japan, so get some ex porn stars that became Christians now to go the Christian Crusade to get the Japanese saved and repent. Like Brittni De La Mora, Annie Lobert, and others. Pastor Marcel Jonte Gesden loves this idea and prays for this to happen in Jesus name. Pray for North Korea. In North Korea they are taking some of the women and sex trafficking them to China. The price is as low as 750 dollars. I saw this on a KZfaq show called Voice of North Korea by Yeonmi Park. Tell your church, friends, and family about this prayer request. I am praying for a revival and a second Jesus movement. Are you praying for this? There is a Christian singer named Sean Feucht. He is on Facebook and KZfaq. This man is trying to start a revival and a second Jesus movement.

It is VERY hard to explain to people now what it was like. I was in Oregon for 5 years in that group. It changed my life. I met some wonderful people but also some not-so-kind people . I moved back to MN. I gradually realized there is no supernatural and have been an atheist now for 30some years. I still miss the fun, kind people I knew in 'the ministry'. Funny, I keep thinking we are still young but most all of us now are in our 70s.

At that time I was growing up in Oklahoma City and from what I can remember, the movement there was pretty huge and the kids looked like the hippies in this video. When I say kids, they were young adults 16 or 17-20s is what I remember.

Wonder where the generation's gone? People simply wanted to strike out and leave mainstream Christianity of the status quo of those days, that rigidness, and live together and share everything they had with one another. Just they got into drugs to help them with that and had no authority to hold it all together. Authority of love and peace...

Another interesting thing is in Berkeley, CA one of the hippie Jesus groups was infiltrated by CIA operatives to try to steer it to be a right wing, republican, conservative movement. The establishment was threatened by that and other youth movments, Black Panthers, Yippies, etc

Lonnie frisbee was a underground homosexual who taught the bible and had ungodly manifestations of what at that time they were calling the holy spirit but it was a different spirit which then was transferred to other's. It's truly very sad. Research this and vineyard, Kathryn kuhlman etc. The Way is outlined in His Word the only Way not a feeling a Way, His Truth brings His life, eternal life. Seek Truth only through his word.

I also wonder what you mean by biblical movement? And I see many people who turned pastors from this movement who are good pastors and love God. Sure, some have fallen away but that happens with all movements of God. We saw that in the New Testament as well even with Jesus in his ministry.

@@ryant1506 as I stated study for yourself. I didn't name any names so I'm pretty certain I'm good with my Savior. As with early church we are taught to beware of false doctrine and evil workers, tares that are in the fold, wolves in sheep's clothing. In what's called Christianity today is a great deal of false Jesus's being taught and followed that is not biblical that's why we are warned. This is in between you and God. My job is to warn and expose of course with His love. If you're not in this catagory you will not hear "Depart from Me..." I praise God if it's true for you. I love Africa.

Not Bibical? Were you there? Has there not been bad fruit from Catholicism, Methodism, Lutheranism, Pentecostalism, Anibaptist movement, etc., etc., and on and on? Are we not an imperfect people in need of a saviour? Are all priests, pastors, churches and their congregations pure, sinless, and perfect? Some bad fruit spinoffs (a three-alarm "fire" drill went off in hell as God moved to bring so many millions of young people to Him in those days) to be sure, as the devil misled a relative few, but the VAST MAJORITY of us who found Christ through that move of the Holy Spirit are still with Him today. Many are teaching in conservative Bible colleges, are in pulpits of Bible- believing churches, in the mission fields, or living our lives, ministering in other ways, still loving Jesus. When you say it was "not a biblical revival for sure" I'm more than positive that the vast majority of us who were there would bear testimony to another, less condemning, position. Condemnation is not a fruit of God's Holy Spirit. Please check yourself, won't you?
