Today we head to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the ancient capital of the Timurid Empire. This city is monumentally important being home to the central asian renaissance, one of the birth places of modern astronomy and a central trading post along the old Silk Road.

I did not expect that I could be any more excited about my quickly approaching visit to Samarkand. But your commentary and images have left me aching to leave right now, tonight.

Inspiring stories from the roads. It's really beautiful to see the history embedded in the few Cities. Indeed Samarkand is one of them.

Thank you for soulful video, minus the gimmicks. This world holds so much history stories of which we aren't told... as history is written by the winners. ... Would have loved to see the texture of those tile works. Thank you again.

Let's face it, the vast majority of 'tourists' think of places like Ibiza or Benidorm when they plan to go on holiday abroad. Emptying the contents of their gut into a gutter in the street is the height of 'cool'. They wouldn't touch trips like this with a barge pole. And a good thing, because we need to keep such trash where they belong and as far away from glories like Samarkand as much as possible.

My grandma was raped in Samarkand during WWII and got pregnant with my Aunt. A few months later she was arrested by the Soviets and secretly gave birth to my Aunt in a Samarkand prison. Fun fact
