Llandudno is an ancient place, and has origins as hermitic religious centres for early Christianity, but in more modern times it has become a retreat for another religion, Judaism. In this video we will explore this fascinating history, with sweeping views and layered history of the wonderful Welsh Jewish community.

Laila tov Ben. I really enjoy your videos on all things Welsh, and hope your journey into Judaism turn out well. Given the similarity between Teisennau tatws and latkes, I feel like there must be a Welsh Jewish connection. Mazal tov and Diolch!

Thanks for the interesting topic and excellent video. I've always had an affinity to Llandudno. It's a lovely area but there's something intangible about the place that appeals to me. The Great Orme Tramway's one of my favourite diversions. Years ago, travelling round New Orleans, I stumbled across Temple B’nai Israel, built in 1906 in Natchez, Mississippi, with the congregation founded in 1843. It felt quite surreal seeing that old temple amongst the piney woods and Baptist churches of the Deep South. Best to you, Ben. Diolch eto.

Wow, excellent work! When I saw you post this link, I assumed it would be like Falmouth, where there was a Jewish community in Georgian times but it dwindled due to urbanization and new immigration patterns. Clearly this is not that. I also come from a former resort town with a small but close-knit Jewish community, but it's nothing on the scale of this.

The part of the story in the Mabinogion when Manawydan makes fantastic enameled shoes reminds me of how good Jews can be in business which was a double edged sword for them in some places. In Ukraine there was some jealousy there when Jewish merchants came into Kiev and took business away from the other merchants.

I now live in Israel, and still find a daffodil or a leek on St, Savids day. All Welsh born Israelis used to have a celebration on St, David’s day. My grandmother came from Ukraine in 1904 with 4 children and 5 more children born In Tredegar . My father was a teacher in Cardiff and studied in Cardiff university. I acted in Llandudno in 1961 when we did the play about Anne Frank. I remember the a Jewish family that came to see the play. The Poliakov family if my memory is ok.

We are evrywhere! Ben, I would welcome you to Our Tribe should you decide to become Jewish and live a Jewish life. As you know, I am Jewish, Israeli and my mom and grandmother were born in Mid-Glamorganshire, Wales, which, at one time was more Jewish than London. Those Jews are now long long gone. I think I somewhere read that Sasha Baron Cohen's family came from North Wales.
