Ernie Ball Music Man Joe Dart II: www.music-man....
Hey everyone! Today we have a very special unboxing. We have ourselves one of the first 100 (#24) of the Joe Dart II bass from Ernie Ball Music Man. This bass needs no introduction after being endlessly teased by Vulf for the last few months. It brings new definition to the phrase "the tone is all in your hands". It's finally here though! Let's check it out.
This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with SIT Foundation Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(125) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at sitstrings.com/

If a vintage and modern Jazz bass had a child- it’s that bass. The throaty pluck of vintage with the clarity, bite and complexity of modern. All that in a minimalist, understated, plain-Jane, classic-nouveau instrument. That articulation was very pleasing and the acoustic tone kills. That bass actually sounds WORTH the money. The playing experience coupled with that tone is what bass playing is all about IMHO. Great review. That tone is money.

"There's unboxings, and there's unboxings... and this is one of them" - I just had to hit "like" button at that moment hahaha! By the way, the bass is a killer. I love it the moment I heard the first two notes. So clear, lively and percussive... and I think it sounds a bit thinner and more percussive than a Jazz, which in my book is a very good thing. And the body is small and light, like an Ibanez... lucky you Lobster, lucky you :).

That's awesome, I can't wait to see the full review! Quick question though, I remember Joe saying something about these basses coming with pre-aged strings. Personally I’m not much a fan of the MM Joe Dart basses, they have passive controls but no tone knob, which really puts a stranglehold your sound sculpting. And the JD 2 doesn’t feel like it should be a bass from MM, as it’s essentially a jazz without the tone. No doubt these basses feel and play great, but nothing about it says Ernie Ball Music Man other than the 3 and 1 headstock tuners and the massive pole pieces.
@jamescole7197
@jamescole7197 2 жыл бұрын
Vulf's whole deal is getting people to buy into their meme. To the average person acquiring an exorbitantly priced bass without a tone control would seem like obvious silliness. For a Vulf fan it's a signal that they're on board. Stratton could sell most fans of the band on invisible clothes at this point.
@DiogoBaeder

Cool bass. Let's be honest though: it's just really a vibe - in terms of being a good instrument it's no better than a regular Fender Jazz Bass. It's really just cosmetics. Which is not a bad thing - but I do see people starting to say it has any kind of "superiority" in tone or any other BS like that. Looks great though.

Agreed, but also that 7lbs is a big differentiator and it made me look this up for a potential purchase instead of a new Jazz. Then I saw the price tag and uttered the good old "I'd rather build another Maruszczyk."
@JoeHeisler
@JoeHeisler 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the person if it's worth it or not but I wouldn't say it's all cosmetic. I personally like these pickups more than any other jazz bass I've played but it's all personal preference around pickups. I just never got along with most J pickups, even on high end basses. The lightness is also a huge plus for me, weight is one reason I sold my L-2000. Also something about this neck and neck shape I really love, including the fact that it appears to be stainless steel frets which I really really wish fender would do more often. But something about music man necks works for me since I also love their guitar necks.
@DiogoBaeder
@DiogoBaeder 2 жыл бұрын
@@kanesmith4961 indeed, the weight thing is certainly relevant, I agree. Fortunately many builders today are focusing on keeping it down, though - Sadowsky does so by chambering the body, although only on the custom shop ones, which are more pricey.

"I'd like to to see negative controls here, that's progress..." HA! Maybe there should have been a HOLE without a knob? 🤔💭 🕳.... But a VERY nice sounding bass, really nice clarity.

Interesting, I don’t like cream colored controls and pickup covers. The the size and weigh is cool though.

I don't like the thin bridge without grooves, too much vintage with less function for my taste. 7.3 lbs = 3,3 Kilogramm, that's very, very light, I think it's neck-heavy. In my opinion it sounds great and clear and I bet it's extremely well built.

The new aluminum tuners they are using are incredibly light weight. Being on a caprice body it probably sits in the lap better than a regular jazz bass too.

I STILL have a new set of Dragonfire pickups that I want to install into a bass, but they are slightly oversized, so it needs routing, but they look and sound just like these.
