I’m from Logan WV. I used to work in Jolo back in the 90’s. These are the greatest people on Earth. The most honest and hardworking people you’ll ever meet. I recently moved to the state of New Jersey. I’d feel a million times safer in a church full of snakes with these people than in any public place in NJ. That’s the TRUTH.

I sure miss going to church . Hopefully God will make a way for me to get to a church . My situation was s keeping me from going. Please remember me in your prayers.

I love these people and miss them terribly! They were wonderful and loving, Godly people with a heart of gold. They were the best folks to know! They were the salt of the earth! Most all of them are gone now including my grandparents. I sure miss them something awful.

Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s was the best ever. I was born in 55 and am 68 now. Of all the decades I have lived, the 60’s and 70’s was the best. Before technology took over young minds. Before they buried their faces in their phones, we ran around outside on bikes, in the woods and creeks. Kids miss so much now. Neighborhood kids…many many of them gathered in the street of the suberbs and we played all day until the street lights came on. We were social and knew how to play and laugh.

I've been an Atheist for decades. More on the Agnostic/Secular/Humanistic side rather than a devout Atheist since I can't prove that God doesn't exist, nor have I ever met anyone who can prove God's existence, but I will admit that some of you God believers can be really nice and awesome people. Snake handling is a wrong interpretation of Mark 16:18. Christians who purposefully and literally handle venomous snakes are in _disobedience to God's word._ This man has been bitten 68 times in 20 years. It should take only one snake bite to prove they are wrong about these verses, which say "it will not hurt them at all." Yet they have been hurt. Why aren't they also drinking deadly poison in church as verse 18 says? These verses are _metaphors_ promising God's protection in difficult circumstances. This church's approach to these verses is wrong on many levels. Verse 18 doesn't _ask_ or _command_ anyone to purposefully pick up "deadly serpents," it only says "and when they do." These people are deceived.

That church was having a good time whats the issue? Good music everyone is in the spirit.

I’ve got no problem praying for the sick, singing the old timey hymns, or shouting, but I wouldn’t be falling over and having convulsions! Their concept of worship is very different from the Catholic meaning, so dancing wouldn’t be a problem for me, either.

Not only are they Gods people…some are very talented on instruments etc….these people seem GENUINE

I grew up less than a mile from this church..never went though...my dad was terrified of snakes...lol

And you have to understand although they are sincere in their beliefs, they can be sincerely wrong. The people in these communities are not well educated, and believe the pastors. They live in their sheltered lives, and have very little outside opinions about the Bible. It's like the people in Africa, who believe in witch doctors. They truly believe in this practice, but have no education to question the practices they see in their everyday life. If everyone around you practices a certain way, and you know nothing else, you will continue to live in this lifestyle. It's sad. They think if they question this practice, their salvation is in question.

I'm a Christian, and the way I read the book of Mark is they were talking to a particular person, or group of people at that time. To take up serpents. Not for every God fearing Christian to do that. I mean If that's your belief then that's fine. It's all your personnel relationship with God is what matters.

Before, and many years after the KJV was printed, the GENEVA BIBLE was the People's Choice, but an ungodly King (James) made it illegal to publish it any longer. These poor people are so misled. They should search the scriptures, starting with the English translation of the Bible that preceded King James.....the Geneva Bible, which was not influenced by Catholicism. Mark 16:18 "and they shall TAKE AWAY serpents"....Geneva Bible. How sad that many of their loved ones and friends have died because of the mistranslation of one word.

They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. First of all, signs follow believers not believers follow signs. Here’s my issue with the whole handling snakes / serpents thing these people are doing. 1. If it was literally us going out and finding snakes, why are they getting them particular kind of snakes, why do they get to pick what kind of snakes? Just get some black snakes and handle those, if that sort of a thing makes somebody a believer. Why they pick the kind of snake that poisonous. 2. Second, so you got to go on a snake hunt so you can bring them in the house of God to prove you’re a believer. I find that kind of ridiculous. To me Acts 28 shows us an example of a believer not being harmed by a snake, which wasn’t him taking up a serpent intentional but was bit by accident but no harm came to the son of God. Acts 28:1-5 1. And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita. 2. And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. 3. And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 4. And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. 5. And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. 6. Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. The Holy Ghost can protect from this kind of a thing. Also, about the drinking anything deadly, it’s the same issue, you never know when someone has tried to poison you or you drank something that was harmful and God protected you from it. That’s completely different than me or you going out and drinking strychnine then telling God He has to protect me to prove I’m a believer. Again that’s a bit ridiculous to me, plus the Bible says, “thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” I will close with this, if I was bitten by a poisonous snake or I did happen to drink anything deadly I fully believe God almighty can protect, these signs do follow believer’s, but I don’t see me forcing the sign to happen, I find that a bit radical and just a religious spirit. To me it doesn’t bring a person closer to God it only looks cultish.

These pastors don't go to a seminary to become pastors, they are ordained within the church community. There is no formal Bible education. New pastors are the sons of former pastors. They might have good intentions, but people need educated leaders.

They are taking that scripture out of context\ I can't believe that all these years SOMEONE didn't read the complete chapter. Those things were given to the few people who went out to preach the gossipal right after Jesus went back to heaven. There weren't a lot of people to go out so for a season Gon protected the few that went. It had nothing to do with their faith, it was just to protect them. The original texts of Mark do not contain 16:18. The last 12 verses were added later, likely by a scribe. The language is clearly very different from the rest of the gospel.

I’ve been a devout Christian all my life and have read the Bible more times than I can remember. But this is insane. Get the congregation all pumped up on music and think it’s somehow God’s Devine spirit. Handling a venomous snake is simply idiotic. Those verses in Mark do not say that every single believer will do everything listed. That's ridiculous. At any rate Jesus is Lord God Almighty clothed in unsinful humanity and He is the author of eternal life to all who trust Him alone for salvation. Jesus paid for all the sins of all the world at the cross (past, present, and future). That payment is put to your account when you have believed on Christ alone for salvation. *This means that saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation.*

Mark 16 WAS NEVER in the original manuscripts of the Synoptic Gospels of the Apostles. NEVER did Yeshua the Messiah ever tell ANYONE to do this stupid crazy demonic things. Anytime He spoke of serpents in the Gospels He spoke of the Pharisees as serpents and in people facing evil times and people. We used to go West Virginia in the summers see the family i used to come back. With $4-$5 thousand one time i came home with $11.9 thousand. My cousin and I caught Rattle Snakes, Copperheads, sold them to the Snake Churches. They invited me, i didn’t go, i have only been in a church one time in my 55 years. They weren't very happy me asking why Invisible Skyman needed money.
