it's finally here... the much anticipated interview with jordyn (aka fish girl) from 7 high schoolers decide who wins $1000!
in this episode of the undecided gen z, we sit down with jordyn 6 months after the viral blow up of cut's 7 high schoolers decide who wins $1000, and after she became the biggest viral meme of the year... and they gave us an insight look into their perspective of the viral experience.
the original cut 7 high schoolers video: • 7 High Schoolers Decid...
our interview with nina: • The Truth About 7 High...
what was it like to receive the volume of hate she received? was she portrayed accurately? do they regret how they acted? did they enjoy the attention? how does she feel about nina? does she still love ocean animals? does she really stand on one leg 10 times a day? all this and more is unpacked...
THANK YOU to jordyn for joining us and sharing so honestly about her experience. it was a delight to speak to her and we are very grateful!

That’s just how a mean spirited person acts no matter THE AGE. So y’all could cut that shit out with “ohhh it’s just her age: everybody is annoying and cringe at that age” … nahhhhhh ma who u know actin like this it’s not a universal situation ecspecially with the way she was treating those people NOPE 🤨. Like she was completely in the wrong for the way she acted in my opinion she acted like a 5 year old that didn’t get her candy and acted out like a brat. I always felt bad for the girl. The thing that upset me most, was that the community was ganging up on a teenager, who like many teens, don't know any better, and people were being horrible, saying triggering things, that could have affected this girl, who OBVIOUSLY will get notified about how they are being talked about online, and that's scary especially for a kid.

Omg that was what I thought! The fact people are making fun of her for things that are clearly autistic and ADHD traits. Like her social awkwardness- also I got more bad vibes from Heather and Nina too- very likely for Jordan to have it as pattern recognition. Maybe that’s more feeling bad from past experiences. Also her special interest in marine biology. But also like everyone being like “she’s 14 she should know that’s not appropriate” like i’m 16 and i’m still figuring it out- because sure neurotypicals would know it isn’t appropriate but autistics probably don’t. It’s frustrating to me NT’s hold everyone to that standard and get annoyed like it’s my job to learn everything, it’s like me yelling at a french person for not speaking English properly when it’s their second language when actually they’re having to learn multiple languages. Except the only way they can learn English is to be in conversation with English speakers- and have to figure out everything from that.

This was such an interesting interview. Really goes to show how much of an impact these "shows" and social experiments can have, not just within the episode itself, but also the aftermath from the way everything is edited. I know that reality TV needs to create drama to gain views, but maybe they need to take more responsibility for the negative impact caused by their narrative, especially with teenagers and young adults involved. Good on you guys for reaching out to some of the contestants and giving them a platform to share their unedited thoughts and how they've been doing. If you weren’t this kid back in the day, you at least knew of someone like this at your school. The only difference from “back in the day” is that this girl was broadcasted and exposed on the internet/social media. This is the problem with the internet: things that normally would only irritate a few people in your immediate vicinity and which would be forgotten soon after can lurk around and cause problems for you long afterwards when they are immortalised online. There was a time you could be a stupid or obnoxious child or teenager and it wouldn't haunt you for ages afterwards, or have the whole world turning on you. Now something you did as a silly school child can come back to haunt you years down the line.

Same! Maybe because I am a lot like her, and also got bad vibes off of Heather and Nina- which could probs just be secondary school experience. Also she is blunt and honest all the way through, but it’s not her being mean to me it’s her saying what she thinks- she’s not being mean deliberately she is being abrasive and very socially awkward and “inappropriate” but also I’ve been thinking she is Neurodivergent (very likely autistic) and yeah I guess I felt really bad for her, because partly I can relate to getting like that and also I just didn’t see anything wrong with what she was doing?

Jordyn was as awkward teenagers are, especially in a stressful situation on camera. laughing at memes about someone being strange is one thing, but death threats & bullying is totally wrong. Cut absolutely did them dirty with the editing of the video, especially with the crying thing. Cut shouldn't have left that in (even if it's for entertainment/drama, just seems unethical) if Jordyn didn't want the personal part to stay in. i'm glad to see they're doing well and are able to talk about the video and situation. i can't imagine what it would be like to go through anything like this, especially as a teenager. keep ya head up, Jordyn! you made that video one of the most iconic Cut videos, whether it was due to infamy or not.

More than two hours of recording, they edited it so she can seem that way. Don't think that the rest didn't speak as much as her. Having 'a big problem' with someone just because they talk 'a lot' speaks more about you being impatient, and not having basic conversation skills. In real life you can just walk away from that person, on the internet you can stop watching the video.

I’ll be honest, I came here from Jordyn’s Insta mainly bc I was curious to hear her side of the story but I ended up really enjoying the pod. The hosts were clearly well-researched and had good banter and knew how to lead an engaging interview and get good information while still keeping things lighthearted and enjoyable. You have a new subscriber here :) As far as Jordyn goes, I think it’s important to remember that almost any reality show isn’t gonna be 100% real. The goal of the producers and editors is to get views and the best way to do so is by creating a storyline. And a big part of that is creating a “villain” that people can work against. While Jordyn did say everything that was shown in the video, there’s 2.5 hours of content, and I’m sure they could’ve included plenty of clips that show her in a good light, but they intentionally chose to splice together the least flattering footage they had instead of giving her a fair and balanced edit. And as we saw with the crying situation, they can easily take things out of context. And even beyond that, Jordyn really did make the video. If the video was just “7 High Schoolers Calmly and Civilly decide who gets $1000” would anyone have watched it? When people watch reality TV they watch it because they like the drama and the messiness, and Jordyn supplied that. She made the video entertaining and interesting. The fact that she got so much hate is really sad.

wow, thank you so much for this comment! really appreciate the kind feedback :)) also for the detailed thoughts on the sitch... definitely very true. it's always gonna suck when you're the one who has to cop it, however as you say that is how entertainment and reality tv works. and yes the video would have got a fraction of the attention with jordyn, whether her behaviour was in the wrong or not...
