A lot of people are surprised at Methode passing, but her answer, if you look past the humor of it, points to not only someone who wasn't afraid of Serie but also someone with a odd mind, someone much like Ubel who can break free of standard ways of thinking.

I remember when that episode aired and I sat waiting to watch it. I remember clearly how much teary eyed I was when Millet started singing the ED and Himmel said that - Tearful goodbyes aren't our style - while I was semi-bawling my eyes out. Such a precious show T_T

I think there's a hidden utility to learning aaallllllll the seemingly mundane spells. Magic is tied to what the mage pictures happening when the spell goes off. Learning more about what magic can accomplish through using those mundane spells widens the mage's imagination and visualization. If you can cut cloth with your magic, you can cut the threads of mana that weave a protective spell. If you can remove dirt from & repair your clothes, imbuing them with a fresh scent, you can remove curses and baleful effects while re-invigorating your own spells. And so on. The more techniques you learn, the more vast your magical arsenal. The doppleganger battle was just a sample of the techniques Frieren knows...

the best part of it, in our real life, skill/knowledge we had can be used as magic every skill/knowledge that seemingly mundane, can be used according our imagination and visualization when you think about it, we human have limitless potential in our life

My kid and I decided that Serie is a tsun-tsun-tsun-tsun-(x1000)-dere and that what appears to be her mana is actually just a massive cloud of TSUN that she uses to power her spells.

When Frieren was hugged by Methode she mentioned she smells like flowers, and that's why the laundry spell specifically has floral scent

I'm pretty sure we all think Serie was expecting Fern to get some powerful offensive spell and so was obviously disappointed in her choice, but my head canon is that she is really disappointed because she will have to relearn that cleaning spell and will have to do manual laundry until then.

after reading it in the comics, I thought about how she keeps up with that. She explains it like fruits from a tree. It's not like you install a program on the hard drive of your computer and copy it then on a usb stick to pass it to someone else and still have this program. No, Serie moves the program from the computer entirely and has to reinstall it again, which needs time. Probably with methods so she doesn't need much time to relearn it. Imagine two freshborn first mages want the same spell. Could you learn a spell multiple times for that reason. OR someone wants to use the "surpress mana spell". Afterwards it would be overwhelming for everyone in the building how much mana Serie really has.

*having read the manga* I think that only applies to spells that the person couldn't really learn on their own, like the one you know who asked for, which he couldn't learn in his lifetime *no spoilers* for something like Fern's request, I think she just gives her the book without forgetting it herself.

I love how the very brief moment with denken proved that Serie's intuition is always correct. She told him that she doubted he would ever get a chance to fight Frieren. And Frieren pulled the wind right out of his sails.
