I feel like Moria shares a lot of flaws with Enel, both way OP devil fruits but no real combat experience or discipline making them both sort of glass cannon like.

I would compare them to simple brawlers rather than glass cannons. They can do good damage and tank some damage themselves, but their skills are below average at best. This is due to what you mentioned, no combat experience and lack of discipline.

I think the awakening could be 2 things. 1. The user can rip out shadows without scissors 2. It might already BE awakened. Maybe he did it while he was still cool, and thats why it could do all that wacky tacky bs like teleporting and the shadow shaping thing. Maybe the user only gets some of the basic stuff like the doppel man and the absorbing shadows thing

I imagine the awakening of the Kage Kage No Mi to be something like the magic of Magica De Spell from the DuckTales-Reboot of 2017, where you can summon the shadows of others by your sheer will and let them all fight for you without having to inhabit a body, just like your own shadow would. Maybe he also can send his own shadow into a living person to possess them, along with their actual powers, unlike the old zombie method.

@MrWhatdafuBOOM I was thinking something similar, allowing the user to manipulate and bring to life other people's shadows. It could also give the awakened user to not only "Hear" the voices of the shadows, being something of a Observation Haki ability that only the user can have, but also being able to merge in shadows and shade, as well as become an actual shadow physiology similar to Doppleman.

Gecko Moria, like Eneru, is an example of a character who was given a powerful Devil Fruit and failed to see the prudence in keeping their fighting abilities sharp and innovative. The Kage-Kage no Mi, despite not being the Paramecia fruit best suited to my needs, would be a fruit I would not hesitate to eat if I were in Moria's position in the One Piece world. I do not like getting my hands dirty when it comes to fighting, despite being willing to fight for what I believe in in a boardroom or classroom environment. From one loser on Thriller Bark to another, we are moving from the giant purple onion (I never thought he was a "vampire penis wannabe".) to the lion-faced pervert next week, as we examine the first Devil Fruit that overtly lends itself well to espionage and finding out dangerous secrets... or, you can be like Absalom and just use it to peep on women in the shower. *facepalm* Heck, Sanji was ecstatic when he found out he WAS NOT at a disadvantage in Wano when his raid suit rendered him invisible, as it meant he didn't have to search for the Suke Suke no Mi anymore.

Moria isn’t my favourite villain, but the Kage kage no mi is a very cool, and powerful fruit. I really enjoyed the Tim Burton aesthetics of the Thriller Bark arc. I’d be sad if we didn’t see Moria have any interactions with Kaido before the end of the series.

correct use of the kage-kage no mi (imo): fight someone during the day in a place with as little shade as possible and take their shadow BAM, the enemy dies

First, I love your Devil Fruit breakdowns. Second, I have some ideas for an awakened Shadow-Shadow Fruit. 1. The user's ability to control shadows would be drastically strengthened as they would not only be able to manipulate their own shadow, but the shadows of things around them (both objects and people). This can range from small things like making weapons out of shadow, to creating an army of living shadows to fight alongside you. As a desperation move, you can even gather the shadows around you to form a suit of armor or even giant golem made of shadows (kinda like how Tesoro made a giant robot made of gold in the One Piece Film: Gold). 2. While the base Shadow-Shadow Fruit lets you teleport by switching places with your shadow, the awakened fruit would let you merge with and move through shadows (Think of the Stand Black Sabbath from JJBA Golden Wind). 3. Finally, if the user is skilled in Haki, then they can infuse their shadow weapons with Armament Haki to increase their strength.

Still one of the most potent fruits used by one of the worst users. I actually hope Blackbeard gets it for his crew. Then we could see the real power infold. And for the reason that people without a shadow dissapear, I think it is because the body fits the shape of the shadow. That's how Moria gave Oars the rubberpowers Luffy has. And since a body doesn't have a shadow, but still wants to take it's shape, it dissapears.

I wouldn't call Moria a bad user, quite the opposite, he's discovered all of those things about shadows on his own. Things we probably never would've thought of if it wasn't for One Piece. The problem with Moria wasn't his powers or the way he used them, but the fact that outside of that, he's physically rather weak. His use of the fruit is great, he just needs a strong and durable body to keep up with it.

@@MrWhatdafuBOOM Okay, I may have exagerated when I called him one of the worst, but he really doesn't use his fruit well compared to most other users. Moria got the right ideas, he just executes them poorly. He lets those whose shadow he caught walk free with danger of them coming back or dying, in both cases losing a zombie. He's physically weak as you said, so he purely relies on his shadowclone in a normal fight. He sits inside of his zombie in the most vulnerable area and he picks a fight with Jimbei, the person best equipped to beat him. I also still wonder where the people went whose souls he stole at Marineford.

I LOVE this Devil Fruit simply for how insanely creative and powerful Oda can make something as simple and common as shadows. And say what you will about him being lazy, folks, but he's one of the most creative users of their Devil Fruit in the show so far.

Exactly bro. People are way too tough on gecko Moria. Ma boy fought the worlds strongest creature and gave him an impressive fight but lost and all his crew members were killed. This lead him to become sad and depressed for a long time and maybe even lost the will to use haki. He then used his devil fruit to put into zombies made by his new crew member so he wouldn't feel any pain from the zombies dying. He took other peoples shadow only to use them on zombies to become king of the pirates without getting hurt or his friends getting hurt. Then, Luffy just pulled up to get shadows back and was destroying moria's zombies. After that, kuma pulled up asking Gecko Moria he needed help because he won't be able to kill Luffy and his crew. But Moria was insulted and got mad that Kuma thought he was weak and rejected the help(That was Moria's fault). He then got bodied by Luffy even with a giant zombie and the bodies of Ryuma and former rocks pirate. Moria then took 1000 shadows but Luffy won against Moria because Luffy also took a bunch of shadows. Moria got rocked and then spawned at marineford where he also got rocked by jinbei(He probably could've beaten him Jinbei only won cuz of his karate which allows him to control ocean water that has a shadow's weakness) and Doffy was ordered to kill Moria bc he was too weak to be warlord. Gecko Moria survived but BB captured his crew member and when Moria went to go look for him, he saw that he was all killed. He got even more deppressed and to be continued... Conclusion: Gecko Moria had the potential to be a great pirate and ik that this is a very low possibility but I hope that Moria will become stronger and either be a tough opponent for Luffy, or he will lose weight and join luffy's crew.(I prefer the second one)

It's not really wasted, Moria takes advantage of his powers very thoroughly, it's just that outside of his powers he's not that great a fighter.

You can make a believable argument that moria used his powers very well and vice versa. I only said the comments because I'm going under the perspective that grandline might make a video explaining himself on where he stands in regards with how moria used his fruit

Kage Kage Fruit Awakening is someone with this fruit can use special ability to summon shadows from dead person. The Shadow can then mimics the deceased one's including his fighting style, appearance, voice, etc.. The Shadow can live and fight even if its master die but it will shorten the lifespan of the kage kage user

On the subject of kage awakenings.he mentions maybe controlling non living shadows.so...if he took the shadows of every sword in the world (even those rare ones mihawk and smokers captain has)than put them in one sword.than give that sword the hito hito no mi and you got an indestructible beast

I can only imagine how someone like Katakuri would use this fruit. Future sight and switching between your shadow to maintain a Logia-like ability. Coating it with Armament Haki, and sending it to stab and rip apart your enemy's shadow, thus ripping them apart. Making weapons and armor from your shadow and taking shadows from others to detain them.

I was actually thinking about this fruit earlier today, specifically in the context of “what if a Navy Admiral or Vice Admiral was the user?” I tried to separate the fruit from the commonly associated uses (i.e. infusing a shadow into a vessel). Here’s what I came up with: 1. A Navy Admiral can use this fruit to take down a whole crew of pirates. Knock them out, steal their shadows, and leave them on their ship in bright daylight to burn to death. 2. A less brutal person might only threaten to do this to force their opponents to surrender. And if they go to Impel Down without their shadow, then thoughts of escape would stomped, since if they try to leave, they’ll burn up in the sunlight. 3. I suppose you could have a team of Navy doctors repair the corpses of dead Marines so you can infuse them with the captured shadows of your enemies, and have an undead army of justice. But that’s pretty dark.

Another possibile explanation for why sunlight destroys those without shadows is the fact that having no shadow means that you have nothing in your body that obstructs light. Light literally passes right through you, even down to the subatomic level. However, light isn't some intangible thing on that subatomic level, so you have photons literally blasting through your body, breaking it to pieces as it goes.

An idea I had is what if you can also add shadows to the doppleman? I mean it makes sense if you think about it, and I guess it would make the doppleman stronger and allow it to become bigger. Which would be amazing because the doppleman is one of the best parts of this fruit

Two things 1) I suppose salt water could explain how it disrupts the fruit, but traditionally salt is used to purify evil spirits in traditional Japanese culture. 2) I always thought the reason for Moria's fatness was so that he could cast a larger shadow and therefore use his ability better.

Ah this brings back memories. This is the arc that I ended on English dub and had to read subs from there on up until the dub release which is now at 574 and seems to be literally going nowhere now and I'm stuck with the subs again but honestly the subs are better with acting.

I always thought that the fruit used shadows as a way for the user to grab the soul itself, and Moria simply told brook that shadows were souls just to mess with him, Also as to its awakening what if it could allow the user to either A: make more doppelmen out of others shadows B: allowing the user to split their own shadow into two or more individual doppelmen or finally C: becoming a shadow oneself. Don’t know just some food for thought

On multiple shadows, it's frequently the case that when you have more than one shadow that they are also less opaque presumably because of the light source that is creating the second shadow, but in one piece it would presumably be because the soul would be thinned out between the two spots. Also from perspective of being on a planet in a solar system you are technically only ever in complete darkness because you are currently enveloped in the shadow of a the room you are in or the planet itself (after all shadows are darkness created by an obstructing object and if the sun is nearby theres only a lack of light due to something being in the way. Also in those scenarios your shadow could be hiding in the darkness and you would be none the wiser.

Well, I mean yeah, it is possible to distort the shape of a person’s shadow, and cast multiple shadows at once, but since all of those shadows are attached to you, you could consider each individual shadow a part of a single whole.

At this point in time, I would definitely consider it for one of the top 5, if for no other reason than the doppleman ability. It had no known or listed distance that it couldn't be from the original host (unlike the Bari-Bari no mi which was purposefully stated, for example, proving it could have easily been stated). To that end the doppleman is incapable of being hurt, not even by haki because it literally isn't part of the user's physical body that's been "turned elemental". You could literally sit on some tropical island paradise in the East Blue while your doppleman, and possibly crew, went out across the grand line like some advance drone. At most, you would occasionally selectively teleport your mouth to communicate, and even then, with enough practice, you could selectively teleport the sound itself. Shift the doppleman into whatever claw or spike you want for fights, carry some sea-stone with it for logia-types (after all, sea-stone only affects the user, and not the user's powers [EX: If Ace spit out a fireball at you holding up a sea-stone gem wouldn't make the fire vanish as it flew towards you]), and you're golden.

Wouldn't a Awakening power be to puppeteer other's shadows or connect your shadow to other's to control them? Heck, the whole "turn the environment into shadows" is super crazy good if it's as durable and morphable as the user's shadow. Think about it~ if he trained hard enough, a city could morph into a huge Shadow Dobbleganger. Yeah, i love this fruit.

Personal theory concerning shadow versus shadows even if there's multiple sources of light all of those shadows connect to one point the sole of the feet. Therefore there is only one second soul that is with you for all the days of your life.

In reality it would be devastating, because you could still "steal" a shadow so the person would fall into a 2-day comatose state, isn't allowed to touch sunlight or more accurately would "burn" in the sunlight (first deegre burns) on their skins and maybe have the ability of shadowmanipulation or teleportation.

I think this is by far the strongest fruit ever if someone know how abuse the power of it. First of all, we already been shown that devil fruit can be eaten by non living thing / object. I think it is possible for the zombies that created by Kage Kage no Mi to eat devil fruit. If this can be happening, I can already see how Blackbeard pirates who also known as devil fruit hunter, gathering massive army of zombies with real devil fruit power.

Technically you cannot have two shadows as at the base they would all be connected and therefor it would just be one shadow shaped a bit differently from normal

I think it isn't a second soul, but part of it. Also I think the sun part is a hint at the true nature of the One Piece World, so far, only Water seemed to have an effect on Devil Fruit, now the sun is involved. Also, even in half shadow, there is a little light, so it seems to be some specific sun light, or some specific amount, exactly like with water or more with seawater. Also I wonder if you can only produce "Brick Bats" or other Creatures...

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. Can the original user's shadow, AKA gekko Moria's shadow, be put into another person. Either living or dead? I know that Moria doesn't do it in the series, but I thought that was mainly so he could use his own shadow to fight for him. And because it's more convenient to have your shadow outside of a zombie for you to teleport positions with, as well as all the other strategies he uses. But I mean, is there anything to suggest that it's not possible for him to use his own shadow to make a zombie like with others? Cos from what I've observed. I think he can. He just chooses not to because it would tactically not help him much since he's not that strong compared to characters like Luffy (and he knows it). Like, he doesn't do it because he couldnt use the teleportation ability if he put his shadow in something else. (And it would be stupidly OP if he could do something like that)
