The scene when Daniel consoles Miyagi about their dads was so moving and I'm glad that he was there for his teacher in this story.

He stared his impending death directly in the face without fear. The man had grit. You got to give him that.

When they are breaking ice, I felt like Soto looked with slight admiration at Daniel’s breathing technique like he was thinking, “I recognize these techniques and respect that the old ways are being taught.” This look is kinda defeated by the shock on his face after it worked.

This is my favorite one! I love the cinematography of the Tea Ceremony scene. Just love the way that was filmed all around.

Several of the main Japanese characters are actually played by Americans, the characters of Mr Miyagi, Mr shirt guy Chozen, and Kumiko. They had to put on Japanese accents for the film.

I really liked this movie more than the others because it's about Mr. Miyagi and his past. Plus I love this movie's theme song "Glory of Love" performed by Peter Cetera.

The primary reason we didn’t see Ali again was because Elizabeth Shue took a break from acting to focus on her studies while attending Harvard. The opening scene of the aftermath of the tournament, including Kreese’s defeat and humiliation was originally meant to be the ending of the first movie.

This one's my favorite of the Karate Kid films. It's such an emotional and layered story and I adore it. I was so happy to see Miyagi essentially step up to be the main character and set the whole film in Okinawa.

Karate was huge in the 80s and early 90s in the US. I was born in 85 and took karate and tae kwon do for a few years in the early 90s.

Everytime I rewatch this, my blood boils thinking of that punk ass wannabe acting tough towards my boy yet ran away when his uncle needed him.

The first and second Karate Kid movies are all about the relationship between Mr. Miyagi and Daniel: Teacher & Student, Man who finds the son he never had & Boy finds the father figure he doesn't have; and their deep friendship. Karate Kid 3 is like Rocky V, it just lacks the heart of the other films. Cobra Kai re-kindles all that feeling.

The crane kick doesn't work on Chozen because he also trains Miyagi Do Karate, everyone good or bad guys in this movie are Miyagi Do Karate practitioners.

In college I had a class in raku pottery. That's all the things used in tea ceremony, like the teapot, bowl, and cups. My teacher had just arrived from Osaka and his English wasn't perfect but he was really nice. At the end of the semester we had a big tea ceremony using all the things we made.

Seeing how much you're enjoying the movies after part 3 I definitely suggest checking out the Cobra Kai series it's amazing you'll be quite surprised at just how good it is

The first movie was mainly about Daniel. This one is mainly about Miyagi. The third one is mainly about cocaine.

What I really liked about part 2 was how they didnt just repeat the same formula as the first with a tournament. It felt like a fresh sequel that expanded on the characters.

Fun fact: at 14:35 if chooji is using a fake weight, he must add more of them for reach 1 kg of food . Basically he was underselling his food and Daniel by reveiling he trush is making people pay more for the same amount of food :P it was a little movie mistake :D

Karate Kid II tells us more about Daniel and Mr Miyagi's past. Karate originated from Japan (contrary to what some people think no it isn't Chinese) and in this film we learn about the backstory of Mr Miyagi and Karate. in Japan honor means everything, what Mr Miyagi did may have been the more mature thing...but many people wouldn't see it that way.

This is the best sequel(besides the Netflix follow-up series Cobra Kai) to the first movie. I love that not only do we get the recap of the first movie, but it picks up right after the first one ended. Here we get to travel to Okinawa were we learn more about Mr. Miyagi's past. I always loved how Daniel insisted on being there for Mr. Miyagi when he needed Daniel's support for his ailing father. And we learned what happened to Daniel's father. Fun Fact: The scenes that take place in Okinawa were filmed in a part of Hawaii that had a similar climate to Japan. Already looking forward to your reaction for "The Karate Kid Part 3" and then onto "Cobra Kai". Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

Sato is played by Danny Kamekona, Hawaiian background. This was a big thing filming a major motion picture in Kaneohe on Oahu (Hawaii). If you lived in Hawaii you know where in Kaneohe they filmed, unmistakable background. Lots of local (Hawaii) actors, Pat Morita is not from Hawaii but was welcomed as a local. So wonderful you enjoyed Mr. Miyagi, beloved character! Keep going for part 3 and 4. 4 is a bit different, some changes (no spoilers) but should be seen if you want to to continue the story. You would have loved the 80's clothes and scene, please react to more 80's movies ( and other stuff) if you can find them.

Fun fact: This movie ended up winning more at the box office than the first Karate Kid.

They weren't just breaking slabs of ice in that place -- folks were also placing bets on the contestants. Gambling is severely frowned on in Japan, and most forms of it are illegal. As a result, places that allow it tend to be rather seedy. I'm glad that you noticed the very precise movements in the tea ceremony, V. Although my knowledge of it is rudimentary at best, I know that practitioners spend a long time getting those movements just right, and in the right order, before they're allowed to actually serve tea in a formal setting. It's an important part of Japanese culture.

This beginning to the movie, this was filmed for the first movie's ending. But they ultimately decided to go for the abrupt end right after Daniel's win. Elizabeth Shue is the only one to not be in a sequel, and she had the biggest career of all the actors in it, lol. And lastly, the Karaté Kid pt. II is the sequel that made the most money at the box office in the 80's. That means it made more than any Rocky sequel, more than Back to the Future 2 (the third was released in 1990), it made more than Gremlins 2, more than Star Wars Episodes V or VI.

Another favorite of mine. Such an amazing movie. And Okinawa is a really beautiful place. That is one of the places I went to while serving in the Navy. Not to mention how it made me feel walking on ground where people fought and died in World War Two. That is a very humbling experience.

I was just a kid after the first Karate Kid was released but I do remember the movie was so successful and inspiring that karate enrollment skyrocketed throughout the country. Producers wanted the beginning of KKII to be the ending of the first Karate Kid but decided to place it in KKII. I remember the high anticipation going into the sequel as there was alot of merchandise: booklets, posters, stickers, buttons, tshirts and even action figures. I recall begging my dad for $5 to purchase a KKII booklet at our school's book fair. I wished I had kept it as it had many nice still photos of the movie and a poster was included. That was one of the reasons why this franchise means alot to me and overall, it's a classic.

Thank you for reminding me why I love this film so much! Even the music is awesome - often find myself humming it as I stroll down the street...
