I know enough to have a broken conversation if necessary, like for directions and to order food (which I did the other day. I can barely order in English, I am so proud of myself.). But a casual conversation? Nope. Unfortunately , I cannot get Babbel, but I use Duolingo and language courses. My Spanish class right now is too easy because I already knew most things beforehand, but I learned how to conjugate, which was needed. Anyway, just wanted to share, have a nice day! :)

I was conversational and dreaming in Spanish by 6 months. I now have a bachelor minor in Spanish Translation from University of Texas. That helped me learn to speak, read and write in Spanish at advanced professional level. In the military, I tested on the DLPT5 as advanced professional after completing university. I use duolingo and I’m learning Spanish. I think I’m doing pretty well but I don’t really understand the accents and why there is three versions of eat and drink for different things like you, I, or She/Him. Example: you would say Yo como manzanas (como with an o for I) you would say Él/La/Ella (or whatever) come (I think) for he/she) and you would say comes for Tú (which means you) and same for drink which is Bebe/bebo/bebes. It just kinda doesn’t make sense 😅

Yes, each person has its own coniugation, and there are also 18 tenses (you only use 5 or 6 in every day life). On one hand, it seems like a lot at first. On the other hand, the majority are regular verbs, so you're ok learning a handful of rules. Also the subject can be entirely skipped in some sentences, since it's already tied to the verb.

So, I already knew how grammatical gender and verb conjugations worked. Comer-to eat, yo como-I eat, tú comes-you eat (informal), vos comés-you eat (regional informal), él/ella/usted come-he eats/she eats/you eat (formal), nosotros/as comemos-we eat, vosotros/as coméis-you [guys] eat (Castillian informal), ellos/ellas/ustedes comen-they eat/you [guys] eat (Castillian formal/Latin American general), comiendo-eating, comido-eaten

Duolingo has been awesome for me! My mexican mother also didnt teach me spanish unfortunately. It was hard to communicate w my abuela and although shes no longer with us, Im going to make her proud!😊 another thing that has helped is watching movies/videos in english or spanish and putting subtitles on in the other language!

I don't know if it worked _that_ well, but in Spanish class in high school I was having trouble pronouncing words correctly (to this day I still cannot fathom hwo to roll the R sound) but one day I had the "and Iiiiii, will always love you" song stuck in my head and uh this happened Something like _Ir a la cocina_ became _eeeeeeeeerrrrrrreee ah, lah co-seen-aaaaaah_ and uh, yeah, idk, somehow it helped me to place the syllables right. I don't know. It worked for me. I definitely sounded less awkward trying to speak Spanish at that point

It is good. I've been using babble to learn French and I've been a horrible student. Well in the beginning I was good. Then I don't keep up with my lessons and when I go back and do the quiz it is astonishing that I get the answers right. If you do it as it's suggested 15/20 minutes a day you will learn a new language. Now I'm recommending to be on a regular schedule, regardless of when, I am committing to doing this everyday.

I think spanish is not difficult but every latin american country has it own slang so the same word in mexico has a completely different meaning than in Argentina and so on. For example, in some countries the word "coger" means "to grab something" but in Argentina means "to fuck", "cajeta" in Mexico is the argentinian "dulce de leche but "cajeta" in Argentina is the vagina; "concha" is a name but in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile is also the vagina and so on and so on...
