Oh man, how many times I take a picture thinking it's something I want to paint to later say, "What was I thinking?".

I just want to say thankyou for all you are doing in the painting world to ‘get people painting’. I am a recently widowed 80+ living in France and thanks to watching your videos my interest and love of painting has been completely renewed, and I am remembering things I was taught years ago. Although I cannot commit myself to your course, I am painting again with much pleasure. My favourite tip of yours so far is to be much clearer on colour values - and also composition. So a big thank you.

WOW, Your ability to put the fundamentals into small key chunks is fenomenal. Over a decade, I have taken many painting classes, but none of them teach all differt aspects like you do. Ive completed about 20% of f/he landscape so far and learned more than I did in decades ×orth of other classes. Thank you!!!!!!!

Thanks for all your tips! I have been working on digital for 7 years and they had helped me, i had always struggled with landscapes, so i am grateful.

My problem stems from the fact that I'm a decent photographer, so when I go out on photoshoots for my paintings, I'm looking for compositions with my camera instead of focusing on the essence or feel of the landscape. When I bring my photos back to the studio, I tend to go straight into copying my decent photo composition instead of designing a great composition. The paintings come out decent, but I feel like they are missing emotion. Too clinical. After watching this, I might start taking bad photos on purpose just so I'm forced to fix them before I begin a painting.

I rhink my biggest struggle with landscapes is clumping detailed areas into a larger general shape. But by far my biggest struggle is translating the color in a photo (that can seem flat and without atmosphere) to a more painterly and atmospheric color.

Another possible component you may consider adding to your future teaching is FOG. I really struggle to implement a bit of fog into landscape scenes. Thanks for all you do.

You have often mentioned "washing" your canvas with burnt umber etc before painting - can you explain more? Especially when I am learning and coming from the Bob Ross liquid white approach?
