Fun fact on ancient aliens; there was an episode where they were freaking out that the pyramids were based in the number Pi or some shit like that and at the end of the episode, a historian was like “It’s almost like they used CIRCLES to MEASURE shit.” And the episode ended there. It’s absolutely hilarious.

On the point about stretching the truth for comedy, they gave the rat host a sign saying "silly" and one saying "true" that he just popped up at the bottom of the screen. so that when they wanted to make a joke that wasn't accurate they let everyone know as the joke was being made.

Meanwhile I, an 18-year-old german, discovered the show on youtube this year, and love it because of the catchy songs and that one hot actor.

This is currently on Hulu in the US. I just discovered it, didn’t realize it was a kids show. The rat host makes sense now. I chocked it up to a sober version of Drunk History.

I'm autistic and Horrible Histories books were one of my special interests as a kid. But we were really poor so I only owned a few that had popped up in local second-hand shops. I read them over and over and memorised every fact I could. Anyways one year my mum saved up enough money to buy me the full set of Horrible Histories AND Horrible Science books from the Scholastic Book Fair. I'm now an adult and still have them in a box somewhere, completely worn from how much I read them. Found out that my mum worked extra hours in a back-breaking manual labour job and skipped meals to save up the money to buy them. Still one of the nicest things anyone's ever done for me man, I love her so much

I found this recently in America. I think it was on Hulu. I tried to get my 6 year old to watch it, but she wasn't interested yet. I think she will be in about 2 years. I, as a 40+ year old man on the other hand, binge watched the whole thing. It's pretty brilliant.

14:08 The current theories suggest very little slave labour was involved with the construction of the pyramids, at least at the sites themselves. While there may have been (and probably were) slaves involved in the quarrying and transportation of the stone, the construction appears to have largely been done by skilled workers who were well fed (seemly better than a lot of the people at the time), received the best medical care & support and were allowed to be buried in their own tombs that they built near the sites (which they built at the same time as they were building the pyramids). In fact there's several compelling reasons against the use of slave labour: in addition to the medical care and personal tombs, there is the problem that slaves do not make good workers, even in fear of their lives, they do not do their best work and some will even try to mess things up. Whereas people working voluntarily, particularly for a holy cause which the ancient Egyptians would have viewed the construction as, will do their utter best. Furthermore Ancient Egypt had an abundance of workers during the Season of the Inundation, where every year the Nile would flood for several months, leaving the farm hands nothing to do. Conveniently this was also the best time to transport the quarried stone, since the barges could travel far closer to the sites.

I'm American, but I discovered the show on youtube when I was like 14. I loved it! Very funny and factual. I also liked all the musical numbers. Also he said "dickwick".

I started watching horrible histories at 26 years old while babysitting my cousin. I own the boxset now

This show still is my favourite show that manages to actually be funny and educating without being patronising to the kids. It's really freaking funny too and I watch it every now and then. You can tell the actors are really having fun every second they're on screen, like nobody is not having fun there and giving their all to every performance.

Stupid deaths was my first exposure to Horrible Histories. I loved it from there, I even read the books afterwards.

I remember watching this show while visiting my English relatives. This was truly a gem.

Yeah, the trick to Horrible Histories is that it has legit science, history, and interesting information, and is usually pretty accurate, but it also is entertaining and keeps children interested. It’s brilliant!

I had one of the actors from horrible histories come to my primary school, twice. One about Ancient Greece and the other Ancient Egypt. It was amazing.

How can you not mention the fact that Terry Deary, the writer of the books themselves, acted in some of the sketches himself. He was the mouth organ guy in the cowboy song and one of the people in the earwig racing sketch of the top of my head. But most of all, where was Bob Hales?!

First Fact Fiend video I ever saw. Never even heard of Horrible Histories before but the thumbnail and title looked intriguing so I clicked. Came back today after hearing the announcement. Karl, Brad, Nisha, Lucas, if any of you end up reading this I just wanna say thanks for the great entertainment over the years. Life wasn't always good, but your videos were. I'll probably find myself revisiting the old episodes more than a few times in the years to come, and that's more than I can say for a lot of youtubers.

I'm from Texas. I discovered Horrible Histories for myself on Discover Family about 2 years ago,, then watched all of the series that was available on Amazon Prime. I love the Stupid Deaths bit!

There’s also a lot of songs in the show, which are usually great. My favourite has to either be Minted, which is about Marcus Crassus’s life, and Highwayman, about the life of Dick Turpin. The funniest part about the latter is that it tried to un-romanticise his story by showing all the bad things he did, but because the actor who played him (Mathew Baynton) was very attractive, everyone developed a crush on him instead.

And the original casts have a new show at the Beebs called “Ghost”
