While I appreciate where you're coming from, I think sometimes when you have the original artist, or even someone who sounds a bit to close to the original artist, doing completely different arrangements of their own work, it comes off almost like some sort of reverse karaoke and detracts from the composition as a whole.

I agree Jamaal but I do appreciate Ken's alternate take. I have fallen in love with this song, both the original and this version. Wow!!!!!!!!!!

From a musical standpoint and in my opinion, this arrangement is all wrong. Even if let's say they want a different take on the song, this arrangement practically deviated from the song's original concept. It's like asking for Japanese ramen but the chef instead prepared an Italian pasta "that looks" like a ramen. Is it still ramen? Of course not. In fact it's more like a concept of what the chef wanted for himself rather than simply enhancing or elaborating on the original concept of what is Japanese Ramen. We might both agree or disagree that what the chef made is delicious but I think it is beyond question that you can no longer call it ramen. That's the problem with most of these "remakes/re-arrangements with Orchestra", they lose the essence and the substance with which the original composers wrote them and the songs turn into nothing but elevator/grocery music. I think that is hardly flattering to any composer. Furthermore, the orchestration is quite mediocre/lackluster in preserving the substance and energy of the song, so even if they let the original singer sing in this, it would still have come out vapid due to the reasons I pointed out. BTW, the flute patterns in the opening are just simply off. They don't even simulate in any way the chords of the original version. Make no mistake, I love orchestral remakes (such as those of The Police, The Beatles, etc.. though some may be found wanting) but it has to be done along the lines of ingenuity and creativeness without becoming disingenuous or unaffiliated to the subject song.

@@tuberobotto WTF?, the entire orchestra was , for the lack of a better term, kicking ass!, beautifully arranged, beautifully played with intense concentration and enthusiasm, music that charms the soul, can be interpreted in any way , shape or form, this presentation was wonderful, the ending note, was brilliant, it signified that everyone was working, and playing together.

Now 674k, still should be more. They are on AGT so that may boost them.
