@@edpearson8973I feel like calling hot fuss the best album you’ve ever heard is a pretty respectable take. All of the singles are iconic and there are plenty of non-signal tracks that are as good as or better than the singles. Plus the flow of the album from one song to the next is incredible on this album.

The song is so effortlessly sinister, the way the chorus changes from “she couldn’t scream as I held her close” to “she kicked and screamed as I held her throat” and the fact he refers to Jenny in the past-tense “she WAS a friend of mine”

Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine is an underatted track but it's amazing. That catchy, singy bassline is the first thing of the Killers that you get attached to. I'm glad the band realized how memorable that bassline is that the crowd sung it.

Great song and cool to see that crowd go nuts. I bet it was pretty awesome for those in attendance. London you did the world proud... Also RIP Jenny Levin... Didn't know this song was about your story until I heard the case on the My Favorite Murder podcast and they mentioned the song was inspired by the interrogation of Robert Chambers after he killed her.

@CallmeA_B they never went anywhere?? Jeez you have high standards for what equates to success. They're one of the most successful rock bands in the UK this millennium.

@@CallmeA_BEvery album went number 1 in the UK and they have had some actual artistic variation in their sound (unlike the vast majority other post punk bands). The Strokes, Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, etc, great as they are, could never write a song like West Hills

I think it's cool how they change the lyrics sometimes, "she couldn't scream while I held her close" to "she kicked and screamed while I held her throat" ... Kind of a scary song when you think about it! Wonder where they got the inspiration for it.... :•
@davidbrennan926 жыл бұрын
I had no idea until my teacher in a criminal justice class started telling us about the "Preppy murder" case, and it was exactly like the song. It was inspired by an actual murder in the 80s.

look for the "murder trilogy" or something called like that. JWAFOM is the last part of the story, Midnight Show and Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf are the other ones. In live versions, brandon sings "she kicked and screamed while I held her throat" instead of "while I held her close", showing that he was actually the murderer of his girlfriend.

We took a walk that night, but it wasn't the same We had a fight on the promenade out in the rain She said she loved me, but she had somewhere to go She couldn't scream while I held her close I swore I'd never let her go Tell me what you want to know Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on There ain't no motive for this crime Jenny was a friend of mine So come on, oh come on, oh come on I know my rights, I've been here all day and it's time For me to go, so let me know if it's alright I just can't take this, I swear I told you the truth She couldn't scream while I held her close I swore I'd never let her go Tell me what you want to know Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on And then you whisper in my ear I know what you're doing here So come on, oh come on, oh come on There ain't no motive for this crime Jenny was a friend of mine Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on
