About guest:
Dr. Jorge L. Valdes (born February 29, 1956) is a bilingual (English and Spanish speaking) Cuban-American Ex-Narco, Ex-Con, entrepreneur, motivational speaker and author. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1956. At the age of 10, his family boarded one of the last Freedom Flights from Cuba to Miami. The family moved to Union City, New Jersey, where Jorge was an honor student at Hudson Catholic High School. Jorge began to work for the Federal Reserve Bank as a bank auditor while attending the University of Miami full-time. In 1976, Jorge left the Federal bank to work for his accounting professor. The first client was La Puerta del Sol, a small grocery store which turned out to be a front for a group of international drug dealers. In 1977, he took over the organization as the U.S. head of all operations for the group that would go on to be called the Medellin Drug Cartel.
In April of 1979, he was charged with heading the largest drug conspiracy in the history of America. After his release from prison in 1985, Jorge immediately resumed his operations until 1987 when he walked away. In September of that year, Jorge was arrested again for crimes he had committed in 1985 and was sentenced to ten years in prison. In 1998 Dr. Valdes moved to Peachtree City, Georgia and started a small disaster restoration company with his wife Sujey. At the same time, Jorge begins a national and international speaking outreach and is featured in over 300 radio and television programs.

I think that that type of upbringing is a immigrants mentality. My sister and I were 6 months old and 5 years old when we came to the states from Europe. I was born in Poland in 1977 and my sister was born in Germany in 1982. My father escaped Poland when I was 1.5 years old by sneaking onto a ship that was bound for Hamburg,Germany. My mom or anyone around us had no idea where my dad was for almost 6 months. Poland at the time was behind the Russian Curtain meaning that it was controlled by the communist. My moms father was the police chief in the town that we lived in and it was a issue for my mother and I to get out of Poland on even vacation. But after some strings being pulled and favors called in we got permission to go to Berlin “on vacation “ but we had round trip tickets and it was very difficult getting out of the country at that time. We obviously didn’t return to Poland and stayed in Germany for about 2 years. Coming here and growing up differently than my friends did I can relate to his story.

My father was actually a foreign exchange student in Gdańsk Poland back in 77-79, top of his class in Naval engineering, he had to forfeit the completion of his degree once he got back to Cuba, because otherwise he wouldn’t be able to leave the country for 20 years. He watched his friends graduate. It’s true that money doesn’t buy you happiness. It gives you access and that comes with a lot of problems. Biggie and Puffy were correct when they said “Mo Money/Mo Problems”. They are different types of problems but they are still problems none the less. In the movie “Blow” there was a scene where they had so much money that they were not even counting it anymore, they were weighing it. When you are dealing with that type of cash, illegal, there is a huge problem with storing it. Every drug dealer that was dealing with that type of cash will tell you the same thing. There were kidnapping issues,Jack boys, and everything else that’s involved in that criminal aspect.

Damn it Pat I'm convinced that there will never be another influencer with even the slightest chance of ever being able to interview and cover such a broad range of characters and personalities whose values, beliefs, heritages, and cultures stretch from one end of the spectrum to the other. Which is something that I appreciate and I know the world is grateful for it too because in each one of those stories there's a part of us that's being expressed too. Great interview, admirable gentleman, el Mr Gorge Valdez.

He said it. In the late 70's and early 80' cocaine was not looked at the same way as modern days. It genuinely was for the upper crust of society, It was an enhancement to take an already great life up a few notches. It was almost socially acceptable among wealthy circles of people. And the money the dealers generated was ungodly and stirred the economy in south florida in a good way. It was an era in American history that will never be repeated and most people do not have any idea or cannot even fathom the type of luxury and extravagance people were living then!

Wow!!! I am going to have to do this in three sets. I have not witnessed such a fascinating interview in years. And I remember 1976, and like every other family 'not having money but not being poor' - it was all about "making money" - and then the world changed by 1980 and again by 1990 and by 2010 bad was good and good was bad and now we are lost. I'll be back. Have not seen the Netflix flick, don't know that I need to. I think watching and re-watching your interview with George is all anyone should need to know about all sorts of things about life in America and the world. Thanks.
