This scene is hard to watch because it shows their awareness. They are aware of the fact that if they use their guns, they’d reveal their position and get shot, so they agree to silently engage each other to the death. Why not have the awareness to realize that your government is using you as a pawn. Young men from England and Germany aren’t my enemies, I don’t know them, they’ve never wronged me. It’s truly sad.

It just checks all the boxes for me. -All fighters are skilled, the baddies aren't just fodder and pose a real threat -Theres no over the top music, most of the scene is just the sounds of combat with the score rising with the tension -The camera isn't constantly changing angles and zooming in, I can actually see what's happening -I just really like the ascetic of ww1 trench raiders, that was the only reason I liked this scene, everything I said before this was filler I pulled out of my ass, but it's still true.

@xanderlowe1543 They agreed to fight with knifes because they know if they make any noise their allies in the trenches are gonna killed them with machine guns. It's not the fact that man cannot think for himself, you see the intelligence of all parties involved, knowing that shooting will inevitably get all of them killed. But it's the fact that instead of just turning around and walking away these men are committed to the ideologies of their nations, or at the very least the will to survive. Both parties know returning unsuccessfully is not an option, which could lead to punishment or even execution. The hallmark of this scene is that there are no stoic heroes amongst the group, even the German with the Gas mask and the Gauntlet spike(Which I'm not entirely sure why he's wearing a Gas mask for a night raid) is breathing anxiously. Not sure if I've seen a proper night trench raid in a ww1 film before. Granted, this _is_ a little fantasized given an exchange like this probably never happened but it's still well done. Realisitic use of knives and IMPROVISED melee weapons.

Night raids did happen but were if what little was reported is to be believed have any credance they were a mixed bag of results
@drysoup30178 ай бұрын
@@Year_of_the_Dellwell, night raid party's from both sides definitely is unlikely, but due to how large scale the conflict was, I have reason to believe something like this happened at least once during WW1
@gronizherz36037 ай бұрын
While night "raids" (like attacks at the enemy trench or sentries) weren't too common, doing sneaky things during the night definitely were. Wether recon to see what the enemy were up to, repairing or putting up obstacles like barbed wire in no man's land, or cutting through the enemy's such obstacles, there was a lot going on at night.

As ridiculous as the spiked gauntlet looks, those were actually used in WW1. Some of the melee weapons that came into use in trench warfare were really sadistic.
@gronizherz36037 ай бұрын
a simple spike like that (basically a dagger that also protects your hand/forearm) is a lot less sadistic than a blunt weapon or a blade with saw teeth.

let that sink in. both sides knew, KNEW that to draw attention, or to open fire would invite very rapid death, for all involved. and yet, one man saw what was about to happen, KNEW the consequences, and still chose to shoot hammer guy + his opponent, sacrificing himself as a result.

It's kind of hard to imagine the nerves of steel that would take. It's one thing to aim high from behind a trench or for knights to scream and charge as a group, but a slow paced crawl as you look the enemy in the eye and knowing that only 1 or 2 out of the ten might survive the knife fight and you will probably get shot right afterwards anyway. I think there probably many brave combat veterans who would freeze in a panic if they had to do that. Definitely one of the best action scenes ever filmed.
@user-yb3rn8qf3fАй бұрын
They never had a choice in the first place. What you gonna do? Back off and leave your buddies to fight. Even if both sides agreed not to fight, they would just go back to their trenches with an unsuccessful mission. Plus in the heat of the moment, they just decided to scrap.

It was a twist off what happened in the first movie, where the experienced spy who we expect to live died and his mentee has to fill in his place, but it’s also tragically realistic, a lot of young men went off in the world wars and died while their families were left with only their sorrow to keep them company. And lastly, Harry mentioned kingsman was started by rich distinguished gentleman with no heirs, so Conrad’s death is logical, a definite twist, and highly possible. It makes sense and it turns you on your head. It’s like the directors were saying to the audience: “oh, you thought we were going to have Conrad be the new agent to kill the bad guy and save the world? This ain’t that kind of movie brov.”
@magmaticgames2 жыл бұрын
@@geeebuttersnap2433 Conrad had to die at some point in the movie anyway. The reason Kingsman was formed in the first place was to honor those who's sons died in the world to end all wars.
