Noooo, you can’t just abruptly end the video with it’s death, when one of the greatest legends about him takes place with his corpse. Supposedly the Almoravids were confident about victory after hearing of his death, but the Valencians put El Cid’s dead body on top of his horse, stiffen by some woods. Seeing the Knight and the Valencians charging towards their armies made the Almoravids loose moral and retreat. Legend, but classic one. Also, Afonso VI, who declared himself Emperor, also deserves an episode of his own.

Want another bit of just pure cinematic marvel? He skipped the most well known legend about him. Namely, as many put it "the dead man rides through the streets of valencia". Supposedly after his death his men propped his corpse onto his horse and drove him to the front one last time to beak the almoravid's morale. Seriously, this guy was born to be a frigging icon. He has all the hallmarks.

I'm a Spaniard and I'm proud of our Christian and Muslim pasts. There's so much myth about the Reconquista. It wasn't Christians VS Muslims, it was Christian VS Christian, Christian + Muslim VS Christian, Muslim VS Muslim and obviously Christian VS Muslim. It wasn't a "crusade". And our Muslim past has left us some of the most amazing pieces of art Spain has like the Alhambra, the city of Córdoba (which is the city with the most UNESCO World Heritage sites inthe whole world) or the Giralda de Sevilla. The Christians have left us the amazing cathedrals of León, Santiago and Burgos, the thousands of incredible castles throughout Spain or the Camino de Santiago.

Speaking of movies, there is an old 1960s Charlton Heston flick about him, where Heston plays the guy. Movie is not a Spanish legend, but the French play by Corneille. Barely attached to El Cantar de Mio Cid. But it's one of the best Hollywood epics. Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren star. Thrilling judicial combat, though not period nor HEMA. Goosebumps raising battle march sequences starring the Spanish Army, just gigantic. No CGI. Good fun.

Another spanish hero waiting for a video is Admiral Blas de Lezo, aka El Medio Hombre (the half man, because he was missing an eye, and arm and a leg), quite famous for his based af comments (when questioned on how he kept getting wounded every battle (due to his sheer apparent lack of self preservation) he answered he took pride in knowing he left a part of himself on every battle. And when he learned of muslims praying to mecca he retorted that all spaniards should piss staring at london), also fought against pirates actually so it might be right up your alley, tho what he's most famous for is just how thoroughly he humiliated the British Grenadeers. I mean his name's still literally banned from official UK documents. We're talking THAT level of humiliation.

But I'm stil slightly disappointed by the lack of mention to "Urraca, 'the Spider '", sister of both Alfonso and Sancho (and said to have been her own brother's lover), supposedly frenemy of El Cid and ultimately the protector of his widow. Also the one kind of pulling the strings between Alfonso's daughters just for s**** and giggles, which led to the creation of Portugal. Alas, leave it to Portuguese hiatorians to have a nation that starts with decades of intrigue involving three princesses vying for power and yet treat it as a preamble and put them all on the footnotes while talking in exhaustive details about their run-of-the-mill kingly sons who, yes, won, but were like hundreds of other kings in Europe... Oh, Portugal, why do you have to be so... Portuguese?
