It's so sad that the Kim dynasty of North Korea are so insane. Modern day China and Vietnam also calls themselves communist states but at least the leaders are sane and the people living there could live and thrive and live in the modern world. But North Koreans might still have technology from the 50's and so backwards compared to its neighbours.

@Voronin174 If you mean why USSR wasnt involved its because The USSR was supporting China and I think they were afraid a war would break out between them and the U.S. if they declared war on S. Korea. ( That last statement is just my personal guess.)
@gerry30112 жыл бұрын
"we know the americans wanted to take all of the peninsula". Not really. The issue was the amount of lives and the expense that would be involved for the US. This was shortly after WWII and the US was tired of war. The budget was a big issue as well. It was only prudent to stop the war as quickly as possible. The Russians had been burnt once when they helped Kim Il Sung before the Chinese entered the war. I don't think they wanted to get involved a second time.
@tbonesullivan113 жыл бұрын
Actually to be more accurate the war is not over, there just hasn't been any major conflicts.
@gerry30112 жыл бұрын
Yep, thats what I'm saying. Neither the North Koreans or Chinese were able to obtain their goal. They gambled and lost. No draw, no win-win, or did not win but did not lose. Your english is fine. Its more important to be able to get the idea across than it is to be perfectly fluent. You do that very well.
@napbonaparte180513 жыл бұрын
@Phead128 nope the UN troops were used to fighting a less experienced and smaller force at first, and when the chinese intervined, outnumbering the UN troops atleast 3-1, and with being supplied by the u.s.s.r. with weapon's and vehicles, they caught the UN troops off guard pushed them back, but with chinese losses at such a high level, the original number advantage was pretty much done, and the UN troops had the advantage again and pushed them back

The Chinese were far below Seoul when General Ridgeway took over. It was the Chinese intention to do what Kim could not. The Chinese were going for the win, not a draw. Mao was pushing General Peng (the Chinese commander in Korea) as much as he could to finish the job, while General Peng wanted to wait for more supplies and fresh troops. From the time the Chinese entered the war in Nov of 1950, their offensive only lasted 8 weeks when they were stopped at Chipyong Ni and then pushed back.

Not officially but technically but the Korean peninsular is still at peace although there were isolated incident which not enough to invoke the resumption of the war. @Phead128 No underestimation necessary. Chinese abilities were amply demonstrated against in Korea were a vastly, numerically, superior Chinese force forced a UN force to retreat. The Chinese then bled itself dry trying to make it past the defensive line, that held for the next two years. China also demonstrated its'... abilities... in Vietnam and India. As yet, the only force truly dominated by the PLA were the Tibetans. China is quickly taking Frances place in military history anecdotes.

@Phead128 actually, the americans were winning by the time the war ended. the chinese were able to outnumber the UN troops by a crap load, and the UN forces were at first shocked and pushed back, but the chinese losses were so great, and the UN loses at a much lower level, they started to push back, but the UN wanted to end the war and them and china and N. Korea came to an agreement
@MidwayJournal13 жыл бұрын
@535party At that time, the one sitting in UN and the UN Security Council was not the People's Republic of China (PRC) but the Republic of China (ROC) which controls on the Taiwan area. PRC was admitted to the UN only two decades after, kicking out the ROC ambassador out from his CHINA seat in both UNGA and UNSC.

@astraelios china is actually a country that will NOT fall because of it's population although different government in control of china will fall, china will never fall, after every empire and every dynasty, china kept it's land mark, because it's citizens and people rise. China is among the worlds most long lasting civilizations ever. China several times dominated land, sea, though also several times fail to other nations, but china has never been taken out of a map.

@korz53 What? Douglas MacArthur only suggested an invasion of China only after the Chinese send hundreds of thousands of their men into the Korean Peninsula. The UN was strictly clear that it would not attack China. Koreans did not want him there? Depending on which Koreans you are telling about. Also, I think you might be confuse about MacArthur power to governed Japan with South Korea.

Yeah but Mc Arthur made a mistake disobeying a direct order from the President that he must have to stop at the 38 parallel cos of Chinese threat but he carries on and capturing the N Korean capital, closing to the Chinese border thus revoking the Chinese into war. The N Korean and their Chinese allies quickly got rid of the UN troops, went over South Korea and capture Seoul again but the UN hit back after Gen Mc Arthur was sacked and the war ended in a stalemate.

Because they did. After Kimil Jong invaded the south and was beaten back by McArthurs Inchon landing and after China entered the war shortly thereafter, McArthur was fired and replaced by general Ridgeway. Ridgeway reorganized the UN troops and started pushing back. When he got to the original border around the 38 paralell, Truman with General Ridgeways concurence agreed to stop there. The Chinese or North Koreans had no say of where the US would stop, and the US could have kept going.

North Korea is poor and it's people starve. It is so bad there that there is fear in South Korea that the North will fall due to economic problems and that the South will be expected to pick up the pieces. That would suck.
@XMeK13 жыл бұрын
@Phead128 I think we agree on a Chinese invasion of Taiwan since it's in both of our scenarios. WWIII might begin and end well before full Japanese mobilization, but they will mobilize fully, and very few could blame them. But Korea won't be China's side on that. Korean and Janpanese economics have long and strong ties.
@elsmurft12 жыл бұрын
ok ok. now you now nobody won that war. The UN did not win but they did not lose and the N.K did not win but did not lose " but a small part of its original territory" DO we agree on that?
