The reason this is the case is because, with the exception of the United Kingdom and the United States, no South Korean-allied country that participated in the Korean War meets the requirement of having a single flag appear in the video (Philippines max. soldiers at one time: 1,496, Turkey max. soldiers at one time: 5,455) , which is why I mixed them all together into U.N. flags in the video, so as to not leave them out entirely.

China mainly. The soviet union did not send more than a few hundred, while China on the other hand sent nearly 2.5 million. That is not to say the soviets didn't do anything, though. They sent tons of supplies and weaponry to the Chinese and the North Koreans.

China kept soviet weapons meant for Vietnam and Korea, and also just threw all their troops at Korea because they knew that if they didn’t they have no chance. no the reserve US forces and unprepared SK forces were pushed almost off the peninsula, NK and Chinese forces were pushed all the way into china and pushed back to roughly where the border started mostly because the US didn't want to escalate the war further, had it China would be a very different country today

My grandfather fought in the Korean War. He spent 10 years in southeast asia as a Marine from wwii, then humanitarian support in China, then fought in Korea. Korea changed him. When he was called up to fight in Viet Nam, he refused and retired instead. In Korea, He said it they were not allowed to engage the Chinese Red Army unless fired upon. They could only fight the DPRK. One time, their marine unit was defending an airfield against attacks from a river. Every other night, the Chinese would float troops and equipment down the river in order to take the airfield. To keep from getting overrun, somebody in the unit would say, hey, did you hear that? i think it was a shot. They would ask my grandfather, 'Hey, Sarge, did you hear that? sounded like they may have shot at us" My grandfather would say, let me go tell the CO. He tells the CO, and the CO asks, did they shoot first? My grandfather would say, that's what I'm hearing from the guys, then the CO would reply, well, light em up then. They would then open fire and drive them back up the river. Just one of many "diplomatic" handicaps they had to deal with.

MacArthur's finest moment, probably. Caught the NKoreans completely off-guard, cut their supply lines and they had to retreat. Couldn't do something like that nowadays with drone and satellite technology. Maybe someday they'll be jamming technology, but I'm not sure how it would work, especially on satellites. 'Course MacArthtur's dumbest moment was trying to push all the way to the Chinese border, and assuming the Chinese would stay out of the war. Win some, lose some.

This war was so nasty that my grandfather lied about being a chef there until he was on his deathbed, and told my mom that he saw combat. Millions of dead civilians, and like you can see on this map there was a stalemate near the 37th parallel and the war just kept going on and on. I think the cold war will have one of the longest lasting legacies on this planet.

Family friend of ours Richard was there. During the Pusan era and the Norths retreat said they were searching villages of enemy around Seoul and noticed some strange rows of what looked to be firewood outside of a village. Walking closer he said they were rounded ends to the firewood. Then he realized these were the heads civilians executed and their bodies were stacked in in neat rows vertical upon each other. Several villages had all been executed by the communists retreating from the region. Stacking of the dead apparently was meant to warn anyone not to fight against the North.
