+AutomaticGainsay You really demonstrated something about this that I hadn't even really thought about before, which is that a lot of these osc functions just don't exist on other polys, especially all together at once. People have been gobsmacked by this synth-myself included-but I think most of us looked at all of the modulations of the oscs and weren't surprised because we've seen most of them on *mono* synths... But you really just showed us how insane it can all get. That being said, the "shape" function on the saw and triangle is a relatively new feature for analog or analog-modelling synthesis (as far as I know, anyway), and we should all be excited for those new waveforms alone. Thanks for the videos, make sure to go in-depth about the filter clicking, and whether or not it ruins the synth for you ;)

Hey, thank you very much! I kind of demonstrate the clicking in the filter video... but I sort of find it to be a non-issue. The problem isn't that it exists, the problem would be that it was irritating or interfered with normal function. Certainly, it is notable because it is unexpected... but it can be so easily addressed. To be honest, I've actually used it as an attack transient in sounds. I don't have a problem with it. And, I know... some might accuse me of making excuses for it... but I'm not. This synth does so much so well and is so interesting and SO inexpensive... a weird quirk like this just doesn't really matter in this case.

***** From what I've heard I liked it as a transient on the attack, too. My only complaint has been when I can hear it on the release, because that can land in weird off-time moments, and I can imagine it being a bitch to edit out of recordings. But that's hardly an issue for me either; In most cases it should be fine to just turn the release up the release a little.

I can only imagine how it will be when we start using the LFO and the motion sequence on those. Btw, can the minilogue do the same trick Nick Batt shown for the Volca Keys, were you can have the sequencer only with Motion data (no notes) and play the notes freely? Cheers!

Moogs do that since the Voyager came out, some 15 years ago.

Moog had shapeable oscillators when the Micromoog came out about 40 years ago. Still a great feature, though. And this takes wave shaping to a whole new level.

I, for the life of me, can not get into the eruorack form of synthesis. All the gear I own has keys, lots of knobs and pits, and it's easily accessible to me for live performance and jamming. What could you tell me to sell me a eruorack synth? Not being sarcastic, I'm really interested.

Modular synthesis (in general, not just euro..) is certainly, by definition, open ended.. you need another LFO for your patch.. so you add one. The live side is a little harder to 'sell' as it takes time to get a sound 'just right'. I agree that a fixed architecture is easier to use live (have plenty of experience there!), I guess a software modular and MIDI controllers is the best of both worlds! :)

Nicholas Bryant I appreciate you replying so soon. See, this is my set up: Korg ms20 mini, Korg minilogue, Korg volca series, Waldorf striechfett and blofeld, and arturia microbrute. I've gotten into the basics of modular synthesis from my ms20, but I don't understand the appeal of having the majority of my set up based upon that. Personally, I would not find it inspiring. But different strokes. Thanks for the input :)

Hey, Franco! No, that's what I'm here for! "Cross mod," or cross modulation, is where one audio-range oscillator is used to modulate another audio-range oscillator. An LFO is a much slower oscillator that makes very slow modulation changes in the frequency of an audible oscillator, but an audible oscillator can also be used as a very fast modulator. That's what's happening here... one of the oscillators is modulating the other, and the "depth" knob is just the amount of that modulation. It results in very buzzy sounds. "pitch eg int" is short for "pitch envelope intensity." It controls how much the envelope affects the pitch of the oscillator over time. "Sync" is undoubtedly explained in one of these videos, but I'll tell you anyway. :D Sync is when one oscillator's waveform is forced to reset every time the other oscillator's waveform resets. It creates a very unique audio effect when the "forced" oscillator's pitch is changed. "Ring" is a ring modulator. It is a unique (and historically important) audio effect generated by the sum and differences of the harmonics present in two different audio sources... in this case, the oscillators. I hope this helps!

Cross Mod is the situation where one audio-range oscillator modulates another. It is frequency modulation in the same way that an LFO applied to an oscillator is frequency modulation. But FM synthesis is a little more complicated than that.

Us bedroom knob twiddlers (hmm,,, that sounds... wrong) need reviews and demos from people who actually know what we need to know about a machine.

Ok ok, read another thread somewhere, and the output of oscillator 1 modulates the pitch of oscillator 2. I'm assuming the "strength" of the modulation means that when you're only using only a tiny bit of cross-modulation, it essentially sends a "mini" version of its waveshape to oscillator 2...? And that waveshape grows to its full amplitude or whatever as you turn the knob to the right.
