Am I the only one who feels like a western debut is too soon tho? Although it’s been a couple years since her debut, I literally forgot abt her before dumb dumb bc of how little music she has. I know this has worked in bp’s favor bc it leaves fan more excited and also anticipating new music, but bp also has a huge dedicated fanbase.

Same. I've been following Somi's career since Sixteen and tried supporting her, but Birthday was frankly terrible and What You Waiting For was so-so for me. This is finally the song I have been wishing for Somi all along. It suits her, it suits her voice, and it shows in her new confidence.

Honestly his inspiration always seemed very random to me, like sampling Cherry Cole's 'Fight for This Love" for "Heroine" by Sunmi, "Akiba" by Coa White for multiple bp songs and general influence from Major Lazer and other edm producers. But this sounds interesting, I'll check it out definitely!

It’s subtle- it’s not them main hook, but it’s a light synth string sound with a drum fill. There are several different mixes of Open up and it is it as prominent in the video mix as it is on the version I bought on CD back in 1993. It’s maybe two seconds max in length but it’s a great little spacer- it occurs a couple of times in Forever Young but the first time is at about 0.40 after “I could die in this moment’.

@@ryul28 I agree he has broad tastes and draws from a wide variety of sources, often totally unrelated to the genre of music being produced. This one really jumped out at me because it was one of the first Blackpink songs that I’d heard and there was a sample of a song I really liked that was totally unexpected- something I never thought would be used in a Kpop context.

It's 100% a pre-release. It's SOMI's HYLT, used to hype everybody. The song did well on the charts and SOMI's popularity is rising. Perfect moment. todrop a mini album.

Pretty sure it's on purpose? YG and Teddy are known for creating beautiful bridges. This song is probably a pre-release (it does have a HYLT vibe: the song is short, very catchy with a memorable choreo) and is aimed to hype for the mini album coming.

@@jessicajessica4392 it being intentional doesn't change the fact that it is indeed purposefully made short and that's not a good thing.. heck even just another chorus followed by the outro after that supposed "bridge" would have been enough

@@deafgate7473 They did that to create the hype, to make people want to hear more of it. PD's reaction clearly shows that it works. Whether it is a good thing musically it's debatable, when it comes to marketing? It is genius and clearly showed that it works. YG's strategy is all about creating the hype to make songs blow up massively. Pretty sure her sales for her mini-album and her title track will be really good because of that. I do think the song is WAY too short, it has everything to be a HIT, but it finishes way too early, if it was the title track of her mini-album it would have 100% been longer with an amazing bridge. But it's definitely a marketing strategy. And also, KPOP songs are starting to be shorter and shorter, it is also a trend. It is really frustrating I admit, but it is mostly to fit the radio standards and also, shorted songs mean fewer sets for the MV.

In my opinion it may be short, but it doesn't feel incomplete. The song builds up and end on a high and keep you wanting more. Maybe I listen to a lot of punk music and the average punk song is 2 mins or a 20 songs album in 30-40 mins. Regarding the short song becoming a trend thing, I don't know if that's really true. (I feel like this something a journalist said and everybody seems to pick it up) Short songs has always exist and different genre of music are different in length. It could be that there are more hit songs now that are shorter, but looking at the Spotify Top 50, the average length of the songs are 3 : 30 minutes and most of them are within the 3-4 mins+ mark.
