We were thoroughly impressed by our initial (if brief) hands-on time with The Lamplighters League, a new 1930s-set tactics game from Harebrained Schemes (Shadowrun). Previewed on PC by Travis Northup.

Mutant Year Zero had the same real-time exploration and turn-based combat. The problem with that game was that there were simply too many enemies in some stages. Without a way of “refueling” in between battles, you could find yourself restarting a whole stage (i.e. repeating several battles)

Use stealth and you can kill almost every enemy without getting caught or just avoid them.

Stealth attacks and proper planning and execution of special abilities will solve this problem

Year Zero was great but became a bit of a one trick pony after some time, if you didn't go full max stealth in hardcore then you're done. Here it looks a bit more varied. Just from looking at it at least.

@@shaunusdann I’ve never understood that type of critique. Like, hard mode is a way of testing your understanding & use of game mechanics. The game is tuned to the tools you have available. What’s the issue.

Since ign only knows about what's popular and their only idea of recent turn basic tactics are Midnight Suns and Mario Rabbids go check two excelent recently released turn based tactisc games, Shardpunk Verminfall and Showgunners.

Agreed - but while it is turn based combat, it is very different from the likes of XCOM. It doesn't scratch the same itch for me.

Tbf, it's more like XCOM than Battletech(another one of Harebrained schemes' games) for example, since it's cover-based w/ similar flanking and height advantage mechanics.
