Norway kicks off the summer with a massive celebration called Slinningsbålet. It's celebrated with a huge bonfire every year on June 24th in the town of Alesund, which sits on the west coast of the country. #youtubeshorts #shorts #norway #bonfire #bonfires

It’s mostly made from used pallets and scrap wood that don’t have any other use I believe

It’s made entirely from old wooden pallets, and the locals voluntarily build it together without any special tools.

For everyone complaining about the environmental aspect of this: Wood burning is usually considered environmentally friendly. Wood is a part of the natural CO2-cycle, unlike fosil fuels. Wood normally decays naturally, and rerelease its CO2 in the air. When trees die in the forrest, they rot and get replaced by new trees that capture the same amount of CO2. There is of cource concerns with deforrestation, as this means new trees does not come. But wood waste is very hard to use as a CO2 storage anyway, and so burning it argueably doesn't really hurt either.

@@raedaljowdah9364Well, the truth is, humans have been burning bonfires like this for a long time. Slinningsbalet has been occurring for a very long time, at least many hundreds of years. It didn’t get to this level until after the start of the 21st century, but they’ve been holding this large bonfire every year for some time. It’s a celebration of John the Baptist. It wasn’t until the Industrial Revolution and the large scale usage of coal, gas and crude oils that’s the atmosphere started showing signs of excess CO2.

Millions of times the amount of wood worth of trees are chopped down that aren’t used for celebrations like these. And you know for what? Not wood, we can sustainably farm trees, that’s not an issue. For land value, in tropical areas such as South America and Borneo.
