The A380 has the lowest cost per passenger mile of any other airliner. The fact it has four engines is irrelevant. Many two engined planes cannot carry half the number of passagers in the same comfort as a 380 can. The problem is most airlines had difficulty filling the seats. Airlines tend to fly smaller aircraft between smaller regional airports, rather than the "hub-to-hub" model they traditionally followed. However, there are many 380s flying all over the world, every single day. They are awesome and beautiful.

Rolls-Royce were not the only engines available. Most A380's were powered by the Alliance GP7200 series, that have the composite fan blades, which are shown in the video.

Wasn't it Rolls Royce engines that caused lots of planes to be grounded a few years ago, something to do with the blades in the engines.

It was the Rolls Royce that gave a Qantas Airbus A380 the only major incident in its life so far. When fuel leaked inside the engine built up and blew the engine up shredding the wing/ fuel tanks/ hydraulics and electric controls. Despite multi-system failure across the board including 3 engines failing the plane still managed to land safely!

The one and only reason it was shut down is cause they couldnt get the plane full, or at least +80% full. If this aircraft was build in the 70s, it would have been super sucessfull.

It's the cheapest aircraft to run per passenger if you can achieve near capacity, but it's such a big bird, only a few airlines have routes that can fill all the seats. On the routes it has mastered, flying would be more expensive if there were no 380s.

It's such a massive undertaking involving hundreds of components from suppliers all over Europe and the world being precision assembled at a huge production facility in Toulouse. Airbus thought it just wasn't viable or fair to have suppliers, production, and people on short term, short notice contracts as and when orders come in.

I agree. The 747 is beautiful. But riding in a 380 after being in 747s you realise the Boeing had had it's day: after a 747 long haul you land dehydrated, tired, sometimes with sore ears and a headache. The air quality in the 380 is on another level - you arrive feelong so much more refreshed and less fatigued. There was less opportunity to walk around the 747 cabin, less leg space (unless you flew first class, which I've never done). The A380 is leaps and bounds ahead in nearly every way. Still, I miss the aesthetic beauty of the 747.

in my personal opinion i think that the boeing 757 OR the boeing 767 are the longest commercial plane like the width is unbelievably long and it has high expectations because of its Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4B (thrust 43,500lb, 193.5kN), Pratt & Whitney PW2037, Pratt & Whitney PW2040 or Pratt & Whitney PW2043 (42,600lb,189.4kN). The engines are fitted with a General Electric thrust management system. The auxiliary power unit is the Honeywell GTCP331-200. another degree for the 767 is General Electric CF6, Rolls-Royce RB211, or Pratt & Whitney JT9D turbofans. JT9D engines were eventually replaced by PW4000 engines. The aircraft has a conventional tail and a supercritical wing for reduced aerodynamic drag.
