In this video I am building two custom sand filled anvil stands for my vintage Peter Wright anvils. One is a 353 beast and the other is a stout 188 pounder. My buddy Jacob at Other Dog Design drew up my cardboard rendition of the anvil stand in Fusion 360 so I was able to have Send Cut Send laser out all of the parts. Huge shoutout to Jacob and Send Cut Send for their help on this project.

Awesome construction! Thanks for making the plans available. A couple questions for you... What was the bend angle along the top edge on the side panels? And is it better to have the top plate all welded up to keep the sand in? I was thinking, would keeping the top plate free to "float" on top of the sand help even more with ring, or make it slightly adjustable by adding/removing sand?

Thank you! The bend angle for the 12" stand was 8 degrees and the 14" was 7 degrees. I wanted to be able to lift the anvil and stand as one piece so welded was my only option. @Rigoni Ironworks just did a sand filled anvil stand with the top not welded you may want to check out. Thanks for watching!

Those stands are solid. With 14 of us using them at camp they never moved. And looked awesome.

Cool project Austin. Really adds some class to your space. The finishing with the painting and your logo took the stands to another level.

Man those look sweet! I love the hammered texture on the brass logo--well worth the extra effort! I'll definitely be keeping Send Cut Send in the back of my mind for future projects.

WOW! Being old, and requisite old school, I’ve always favored the 1800’s “tree stump” anvil base philosophy, but those things are SWEET! Very nicely done, and receiving the components in a more or less ready to weld state just sweetens the deal! Kind of happened on your channel by accident, but you’ve got a new sub!

Haha I was wondering how you were gonna get those 200lb beauties out of the workshop! Was the machinist's sin welding right on top of a 1-2-3 block?
@HighCaliberCraftsman
@HighCaliberCraftsman 2 жыл бұрын
Yep I needed a way to lift it an even 2" so I used a set of cheapies.

4 legs is fine if you are on a soft surface, but for those of us on concrete, 3 legs is what you need.

I would suggest pouring some cheap oil or other liquid to fill in the gaps between the sand particles. Also, over time the sand will compact down due to the vibrations, reducing the effectiveness of the base. How about not welding the top plate to allow it to sink in as the sand compacts down?
@HighCaliberCraftsman
@HighCaliberCraftsman 8 ай бұрын
There are holes in the top so you can continue to add sand if needed. So far it hasn’t settled at all.
