Matt should write a book, Tales from the Deer Hunter. So enjoy hearing his hunting stories.

Next time you guys plant them put a ribbon around the best strongest plant and just use the dried beans from them for replanting and that follow year they will be more big resistant and great producers! My granny did that in East Texas and everyone used to ask her for her bean seeds.

Matt makes deer hunting sound so inviting. People today forget that hunting was the way people got to eat at one time. But maybe even more fulfilling is being outdoors with all the wonder and beauty of nature. I used to love it most in the world. Matt wouldn't appreciate it but as a little girl I used to go behind my brothers and closed all the rabbit trap boxes so the poor little guys wouldn't get caught. Perhaps if I didn't have to see them hanging from the rafters outdoors, I wouldn't have done it. lol I was little, but my heart wasn't. Happy and safe hunting to you Matt. As an adult, I do appreciate the whole process now.

Another thing that I enjoy so much being in a deer stand/blind is because of all the wildlife interaction we get to see. So many stories with Squirrels, coins, possums, coyotes, bobcat, turkeys, of course the deer, .... I use to hunt along the Arkansas river here in Kansas so also ducks and geese. Doing birds even in my later years. Love these videos. You're good people. God bless all here.

I've dealt w/ very mild allergy symptoms for ~ 40 years. This year I started eating 1 tablespoon of local raw dark honey every morning. Currently, my allergy symptoms have all subsided.

I always enjoy Matt talking about deer hunting because I am a lot like him. The leaves have started to fall here in SW Virginia. It won’t be long before Matt takes his grandson hunting and passing on his heritage. God bless.

We actually had a guy fall out of a tree stand and almost lost his life. His wife tells the story of not knowing what she was gonna find when searching for her husband and yelling for him. It's an amazing testimony. He had to learn to walk again. Him and his wife are expecting a baby this year too. Next month. God is good ❤ My husband is a ground hunter in a gilly suit, with deer dander (deer pee) on him 😂..it's good eating 😋

A tablespoon of local honey is like getting an allergy shot. Helps to build up an immunity to everything in your air since it’s all in the honey too. One of my daughters had a severe peanut allergy. She had just started walking and my other daughter was 6 yrs old and was eating the last of the peanut butter out of the jar with a spoon. She left the jar on an end table and my youngest daughter grabbed it. It fell onto the wood floor. I was in the other room doing dishes. As soon as I heard the jar fall I walked into the living room and my youngest daughter’s face was completely swollen. Her face swelled up so quickly that when the swelling went down she had two black eyes. She had not eaten any peanut butter but just got some on her hand when she grabbed the jar. I grabbed a medicine syringe and used it to shoot liquid Benadryl down her throat. The swelling immediately started to go down. She didn’t have any breathing problems so her dr said to bring her in. The dr said if I had not had the Benadryl on hand, she wouldn’t have been able to wait for an ambulance. She had an off the chart allergy to peanut butter. Every adult in my family and extended family carried epi pens for her entire childhood. It was terrifying. (Note: Honey is for seasonal allergies only).

I’ve always been taught to “Harvest what you need for food, leave the rest for others.” When it comes to hunting up in the mountains. I think that is good way to look at the sport of hunting. Turkey, deer, squirrel, and rabbit are always available for the table if desired. I enjoy the conversations your family shares with your viewers. I was born with allergies. Katie sounds a lot like me. My Mama had to wash all new clothes, or I would be covered in the red whelps from head to toe. Allergies can make a person feel miserable. Hope you feel better soon. Thank the Lord that in heaven we will not have any sicknesses! ❤️

Matt's dear hunting....I would assume that one of the great things about it is quiet and nature. One can clear their mind. I'm very much a "love the quiet of the woods", yes I like hearing the sounds nature gives without the interruption of human noises.

Wow it is hard to believe that summer garden time is almost over. It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that Matt was having his first tomato sandwich of the season.

Tipper, I have found that the older I get, the more allergies I develop. I was raised in the Ozark Mtns and my family were all gardeners. We had a farm on White River with good rich dirt but as soon as you got away from the river, we have nothing but red clay. When I moved and started raising a family I soon found out that raised beds were necessary. Nothing would grow in that clay. My husband and I would build raised beds and go to my Daddys farm and haul good rich river soil to fill them. My husband has been gone for 20 years now but Matt reminds me so much of him. He was a carpenter and could do about anything we needed done like Matt. He always enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks and hunting and fishing. Bless your sweet family. We used to get out of school during deer season when I was growing up.

Yesterday I woke up with some sore throat. I've not been out of the house. Today I learned that yesterday there was a massive solar flare. Those cause lots of problems with our joints and sinuses, anything prone to inflammation. I took communion with my grape juice. All better. 🙏🏼 for you to be 💯 well Tipper ❤

Was out driving around saw a garden still had several tomato's i stopped and asked could i buy a few.i thought of Matt cause i love tomato sandwiches to.long story short they told me to get all i wanted.What a delicious tomato sandwich it was .😊

Matt does have a passion for hunting! The good thing about his hobby is he brings home meat for all the family to eat. If it’s not a deer, then it’s fish. Good video and y’all got a lot of beans to dry, plus a mess to eat later. Plus a few tomatoes! Enjoy them while they last.

My husband is exactly like Matt in his passion for deer hunting. Just being in the woods is his therapy. His attitude about which and how many deer to take has also changed, as in he won’t take a doe if there’s a chance she has any young ones still with her, and filling every tag isn’t a necessity either. As for falling out of a tree, my dad fell when he in his early 60’s, luckily not badly hurt, but so close that he could’ve died. His thigh was cut by a branch during his fall and was only about an inch from his femoral artery, so the doctor told him he was very lucky. He too stopped hunting from a tree. We are amazing but fragile creatures! Feel better Tipper! ❤

I'm glad Matt is being safe climbing in the deer stand. We don't heal as quickly as we get older. I'm a good bit older than you all are but I've had rails put beside every outdoor steps I have and I use them. You might want to think about putting a rail next to your steps beside the house.

Isn't it kind of sad to see the garden come to an end. But grateful for the harvest you did get. Yall raise such a pretty garden. Enjoy the bounty.

I never had allergies until I got older as in over 60. It just happened. I love hunting and fishing. Fishing more than hunting. Always have fish in the freezer. I can relate to Matt. Garden is winding down and a new season begins. Thanks for sharing Tipper!

I forgot to say my late dad harvested his last deer when he was 88 yrs old. He had to come down from where he was hunting to the farmhouse and my son had to go help him get it home lol he sure was proud of it and it was delicious back strap and I canned the rest, he bragged everytime we ate it that winter!

Matt is so passionate about hunting makes me think of my late dad telling his hunting stories, my husband never hunted because his dad was killed in a car wreck when he was 3, and his mother couldn't teach him so he never got interested after he left for college. I love y'all! Tami

I suffered like that with allergies and couldn't figure it out. So my Doctor decided to run allergy tests on me and I discovered what I was allergic to and that has helped me greatly. You might want to think about having the tests done.

Enjoyed the video very much. Reminds me so much of my husband and his dad and my dad and brother. Deer hunting was such a special time. Oh, the breakfasts my mom made before the guys went out on the first day. We always ate all that was harvested. My father in law hunted well into his late 80’s. He didn’t use all the fancy do dads that hunters do now. He only had his gun, a poke with a jelly sandwich and his smarts. My husband has hunted since he was little and bow hunted for over 50 years. He just can’t do it now. Such tradition. WV has so many deer. But my family has tried to lower the numbers over the years. 🥰 best to Matt for a successful season. Everyone take care.🦌🥰

I didn't have the first time I had an allergy flareup...I was 60 and when the Doctor said I had an allergy, I told him I was too old to have one...well...I wasn't. Always enjoy your videos...God Bless

Hunting is still a big deal where I live in far west Texas, and was in all of the western states where I have lived, including Montana and South Dakota. My birthday is in the middle of deer hunting season in Texas, and when I was a kid it was overlooked a few times until the deer hunters that camped with us found out. After that, it was a big party and I got lots of presents - but still during hunting week! I have not hunted for many years but I have great memories, and I learned alot of good skills.

Would love to have y'all show more of your neighborhood and town. With fall comin' and the foliage changing think that would be nice.

I have hunted since I was big enough to tote a gun and follow my Daddy in the woods. I am the oldest of my Daddy and Mama's three girls. We girls grew up knowing how to handle and shoot guns. To this day the woods are still our happy place. The first day of hunting season is like a holiday to us too. It is sad that the tradition of hunting is fading..

I grew up on the west coast where hunting wasn't generally a thing, but my brothers were taught how to hunt by a family friend/ member of our church congregation. Even now, they still go. Deer is really good is it's done correctly. Elk is great as well.

Sounds exactly like my oldest daughter. Missed more school than she attended one young year. Hives frequently. Part of it I still blame on the tonsils. Her situation improved dramatically when they removed them. But allergies were still a big deal. God bless all here.

I don't know if it's a fact but I heard that your body chemistry changes every seven years so if you've never had allergies you may develop them and vice versa. Like Katie I've had issues going to different places and having sinus problems after. Love to hear about Matt hunting and how he enjoys it! Matt, retirement agrees with you! Sort of rethinking my plan of working until 70....7 years from now. I keep hearing stories about people who retire at 62 & 65 that that find themselves miserable a month into their retirement. I am guessing the key is that you have not really stopped working, you actually just changed jobs. It seems your new job came with less stress, more opportunities to enjoy your hobbies, and it is obvious that you really like your new co-workers! I think I had best find a job to transition into that would meet those criteria for me before changing my long-range plans(lol)! Thank you for sharing what I see as happiness after retirement.

Tipper, for allergies and colds, you should find someone local who raises bee hives, and sells honey, or raw honey. Because it heals and shields you from allergies and colds. Since bees pollinate in your area, the allergies are from what the bees pollinate and the honey they make in the hive helps with allergies and colds. Also taking a pre/probiotic really helps with alot of that too. I take one every day, I very, very, rarely have a cold or experience allergies. 😊

I truly understand what Matt’s talking about hunting. I wait all year for deer season to start in the fall. It’s funny as you always talk about Appalachian language. Before my son joined the army he worked on nuclear power plants and with some men from North Carolina. He called me one day and said, I finally heard someone say you’uns (not sure how to spell it). He heard it on mountain shows we watched but hadn’t heard it in real life. I noticed your preacher said it Sunday. It’s weird we only live a little south of you but it’s not used here in the part of northwest Georgia we live in. It’s always y’all where we live. God bless you.

Hey, Tipper, you don't need to buy anymore comfrey plants! All you need to do is cut some of them down to the ground, dip in rooting powder and put in soil! Believe me, in a few months you will have huge new plants! I've done this over and over and have plenty of comfrey around the yard.

I can't imagine not watching Celebrating Appalachia. I don't know how I've ever made it before I found y'all. I've killed 167 deer in multiple states. The last 41 have been with a handgun. I've killed everything from a 12 point to slickheads. An 11 point and a 7 point eluded me for years. I finally got an 11 point with a handgun and a 7 point with my bow. I made it through my surgery. I really appreciate y'all's prayers.

I am going to miss you and Matt having your popsicles and your conversations. It was always so peaceful hearing the nature sounds along with you talking. It helped me to relax. Have a good evening.

I use to not have allergies until i was a teenager a man hire me and dad to cut down an apple tree and haul off the brush. It was in full bloom and that evening i started sneezing and for weeks i would start sneezing and would sneeze till nose would start bleeding. Hope you get to feeling better. A man I met a few years ago at our local Senior Center planted Fordhook lima beans this season bacause I had said how good they were back when Pop-pop could still plant a garden. He had stopped due to old age and bad arthritis in the early 80's. My friend had planted a small row in his little garden. About two weeks ago, he delivered a big mess of limas still in the pods. As I told him the next time I saw him, the first mouthful of limas I ate took me right back to Mom-mom's summer kitchen where I had last eaten fresh lime beans some 44 odd years back. Pop-pop usually dried some limas as they petered out producing. The flavor of the butter beans Mom-mom cooked from them put store bought butter beans to shame.

Tipper - Living off the land, hunting, fishing, being self sufficient was a part of my childhood years for where I grew up and especially from my mother's heritage who was from a Coastal tribe India. Maintaining the culture and passing the traditions and language down to each generation remains a huge focus - basically the same as your Applachian traditions and sharing from one generations to the next. Also Tipper - have you ever looked up Environment/Chemical sensitivities and allergies (MS or MCES)? You might be surprised how many of the symptoms that you & Katie experience that you will say "this is me! to. They can range from mild, to moderate, to severe, and even life threatening depending on the allergen. I have lived with this diagnosis for 32+ yrs now. Thank you for another wonderful video of life in the Pressley homestead and the memories you bring.

I love natural remedies for allergies. I use Earthley products, which are herbal tincture. Sinus Saver and Liver Love, with Lymphatic cream helped my husband get off allergy meds. His allergies were severe.

The dry and hot summer speeded the garden along quickly this year. My son has been helping clear up the garden. The sweet potatoes look great but who knows how much is underneath. We’ve got some fruit trees coming this week so their is still work to do.

Please don't waste the okra!!!! My favorite!!! People across the pond eat it raw, so healthy . I've been baking it, to cut a calorie or two. I like it & it's very crunchy. Beans are beautiful. Enjoy your day & be blessed 🙌

I grew Hopi red dye amaranth this year. It was a wonderful surprise to find out it is a fantastic trap crop for the flea beetle, bean leaf beetle, bean beetle. cucumber beetles, and leaf hoppers. Because of these amaranths I have had the prettiest beans and stringing for leather britches was a breeze this time around. On 99 percent of them all I had to do was take the strings off and didn't have to cut off a speck of bug damage. I'm so pleased with the results I am going to scatter some seeds from them across the road a piece to come up next year.

I’ll tell u what u’ll have taught me over this year is that gardening is hard work. I am grateful that I have enough change to go to the mkt. it is just too much work. BTW Matt has the smile & relaxed manner of a man with out a hard 9-5 job.

That first butterbean is a true butterbean the second is actually a green bean called scarlet runner we grow and love both my favorite is the speckled butterbean and christmas climbing butterbean

For drying beans and things like onions and garlic we always used old framed window screens. You set those on posts or saw horses to keep them off the ground and let the air get to them from all sides. just put the beans or what have you on top and you're good to go and easy to move around too.

I found your channel last few years and i love your family. I am excited for Katies baby to arrive. One thing id like to say is this, inviting us all into your Christmas last year sure was nice of you. It made me feel like i was there too. And for some who have nobody, you gave them xmas. Thankyou

Them jar flies are so loud they almost drown you out! They're like that here too. Nature is in a hurry because they know time's growing short for reproducing before the cold weather gets here. Listening to Matt talk about hunting makes me think about my paw paws hunting deer, rabbits and squirrels. It's ingrained in Appalachian culture because in the mountains people did depend on the meat they hunted because where else were you gonna get meat unless you hunted and killed it? It's not like you could run to a grocery store and pick up some meat back in the day. When my Dad was in high school the schools would close for a week just so the boys could go hunting during deer season. First day of fall is next Sat. the 23rd so hang in there Matt!

I live and grew up in upstate NY in a hunting and fishing family. Love it. Matt reminds me a LOT like my dad. Same way of thinking and doing things. For so many years, I never saw the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade because we were always out hunting on Thanksgiving morning in the fresh fallen snow. Thank god for the DVRs. LOL. Not big game season here yet but I've been out squirrel hunting a few times. Good to be in the woods again. I really love to hear you guys talk about hunting and fishing. Reminds me of my childhood with my family around. Can't wait to hear how this season goes and all of the beautiful food that you make from that and all of the stuff from your garden. I really love that your whole family takes part in everything too. It is very cool to see how much fun your girls have doing everything outdoors with you guys. With fall just starting and the last gardening quieting down,; hopefully Matt will feel better.

I planted more beans in July and still have plants blooming. I already have a lot frozen, so I've been dehydrating all of them the last couple of weeks and will continue to dehydrate the rest of them. It takes a lot of beans to make a good batch of shuckey beans! A two gallon ziploc of beans fills two dehydrators and fills a half gallon Mason jar about halfway. Lots of work and beans but that's ok, I'd rather eat them either right off the vine or dehydrated.

I was in Upstate SC yesterday attending a meeting. When I arrived near Landrum, I could see the Great Smoky Mountains and I thought of your family. What a beautiful sight!

Watching y'all take down the end of summer, here in FL I started seeds for another round of peppers and herbs in pots. If a frost is coming I can move them inside, but I should have another crop coming ready around thanksgiving and after. By then the humidity is down enough for me to let them go red ripe and string dry them.

Tipper there are lot of cooking videos that a person can watch..but I love watching your videos and they are worth watching...delicious meals.

Tipper your Garden is still so lovely .. nasturtiums are my favorite to eat . They taste so good and salad. Why Matt you got a a real good man face ! And Tipper and Matt I never had good deer meat. I’ve tried it in Chile. Freezing it for one year. It’s gamy taste in to me.

Matt, I know what you mean about it getting harder to climb treestands. I'm 50, and it's getting a little harder for myself too. Good luck this season.

Matt, my great uncle was early 80s n fell out of tree stand. He’s in mid to late 90s now. He got beat up pretty good, but kept on goin! Tough as a lighters knot! So be careful.

It's a sad time of the year for sure when the garden starts to die. Here in New England I have my second planting of Bush beans that I'll be picking in the next week or two and some late Squash and Zucchini that I planted in August. It's just not fair you work so hard and it seems to pass so fast.

Between the two of us, my husband is the one inclined to get every 'bug', flu, cold, etc. that comes along. Tipper I started making 'fire cider' (I use grated fresh horseradish, garlic, onions, lemon slices, all steeped in apple cider vinegar). When he's faithful taking it, he notices a difference, really doesn't catch any of those maladies. I am often skeptical of such things, and I was so pleasantly surprised by the stuff. Lots of great recipes, some adding honey, turmeric, etcetera. Y'all might consider steeping some and giving it a try. I ENJOYED THIS so much, as always. 🙌🏼 💞

I live Raleigh Durham area of NC and just planted Contender snap beans. I pick and can beans through October. Contender produces a crop faster than others. I'm still picking purple hull peas, butter beans, and snaps and tomatoes. I've planted cabbage, carrots, lettuce, collards, turnips, broccoli and English peas for fall garden.

It's cooler now in north florida, during nights, but,still hot in daytime

I grow vegetable seed and a few types of beans. If you haven't shelled them yet, most growers I know leave their beans in the shell to fully dry. They seem to develop to a higher quality this way, especially if you had to pick some with a little green left in their pods. You just spread them out in a a warm, shaded space (like the porch) and wait for them to be crispy dry. Then thresh them out and pick out the bad beans. I then put them in a glass jar with a good lid and drop them in the freezer for one day to kill any weevils or moths. Then you can store them in the pantry.

Phew.. the beans are done! I know that feels good. Did you get to can any? Matt needs to start his own channel on hunting. He's got the stories for sure! Glad he is careful. You just never know what could happen so he is good to be so aware. Yep it is easy to fall the older we get--I'm an expert on tripping over over carpet--lol I remember hunting with my dad once. He used a blind and had an old office chair in it--I had a 5 gallon bucket--lol Well this one time we got up in the blind and dad got all set up. Well right at daylight he told me to keep a good eye out for any deer and then he proceeded to start to doze off. So I just let him sleep being real quite when I heard a herd of deer come up on the ridge. I just sat there for a few minutes in awe because I had never seen that many deer at one time. It was almost like a buffalo stampede. I finally whispered--Dad--Dad and then I touched his leg and said a little louder--DAD! Well I must have startled because he fell over in his chair... the rifle that was pointed out the window got hit somehow and went off and boy what a ruckus he made. Well when he finally pulled himself together as I was telling him about the deer, he just looked up at me and said "You sure you saw a deer?" Oh my goodness I was like "You didn't hear all those deer?" We had a big laugh over that one. I miss those days with my dad. What good times it was. To this day I still like to hunt and usually go with a neighbor and we split an axis deer. They seem to be so much better than the whitetail. One has your name on it Matt if yall ever get this way. I know I have cousins that hardly ever eat beef because they grew up on deer. They like the deer better than beef. True Tipper--it is all in the preparation and cleaning of deer.
