Britt, Iowa, my hometown. I've many memories (late 1960s to early 1980s childhood) of ours: Penny candy, Halloween mask and costume boxes, greeting cards, vinyl LPs, Pet Rocks, Mexican jumping beans, training bras, board games, etc. If a purchase was a gift, you got free wrapping secured with a ribbbon that was given a curl via a scissors' edge. 😊

I grew up in the 70's and this warms my heart. I just think about going in and picking out my boxed Ben Cooper Halloween costume or plastic light up blow mold Jack O' Lantern or Santa at Christmas.

Ben Franklin definitely was a fun store. I don't get the same feeling from Michaels or similar places. It seemed to have more stuff in smaller spaces. Better quality items than you can get today also.

Thanks for sharing this story. I didn't know if there were any Ben Franklins still around today. I grew up in Issaquah, Washington, near Seattle, and as a kid I often went to the Ben Franklin store there. The great thing about it was that they had such a wide variety of stuff for every kind of person and every aspect of life. Yes, always fun surprises to be found walking and looking around inside, as the video mentions. I often bought craft supplies there because I liked to make things as a kid. It was the best place to get ready for Halloween. :- ) Thanks for this fun look at this store today. Wish I could stroll through and buy a few things there. Best wishes to the owners and the store!

I love this store. When i was a little kid, my mom would give me $2. I would ride my bicycle halfway across town. I always got a snickers and either a diet coke or ruby red squirt. Times were better than 😢...
