Was thinking this same thing. Camping World sells little, portable fridge fans that run off of two D batteries that work really well to circulate the cold air. I use one in my RV fridge.

If you didn't toss the holding plate you can probably use that. The old holding plate has some type of liquid that freezes at a temperature well below 32F, probably around 0F. And it works on the solid to liquid phase change of the material. Just like ice. When you put ice in a cooler but colder. Just put it between the two plates that stay together.

I like to run keel cooling on any powered vessel. Alternatively, a heat exchanger with cooling sea water vented overboard, and having no wet exhausts. Wet exhausts use more fuel and when water remains in them are the ruin of many a good engine. On a yacht they may be thought to be necessary, but I doubt they are. Silencers and screened exhaust outlets can be fitted by running the pip e inside through-draft forced ventilation, screened to prevent burns Samson posts supporting deck house roofs or lowering dinghy davits, topped with a rain-proof lifting cover to exclude moisture when engine is not running.

Guys I really wish your videos were more up to date. If you have not already sold your DeFever trawler, I would like to suggest that you try to find some way of keeping the boat as your second home so that you can continue to cruise the PNW during the summer months. My opinion, your state of Florida, the Caribbean and the sea of Cortez are all going to get too hot in the not too distant future for you to enjoy sailing in that part of the world for most of the year. And if you guys are anything like me, even if you could buy a different boat to cruise the PNW, you would not enjoy that boat as much as the boat that you spent so much of your time and energy in restoring. You guys are also the perfect couple to show what the PNW has to offer in the way of cruising and also hiking in the surrounding area. ( If your dog Jetty could talk she would also probably tell you that her most favorite days are when she gets to hike and explore the PNW woods in cool weather with her two other pack members 🐾 😉)

So one idea regarding your fridge setup would be to go to a computer supplies store and pick up a cpu cooling fan, they are cheap, quiet and use hardly any power. Then blow some of the cold air through those round vents from your freezer unit over to your fridge unit, otherwise I suspect that your fridge unit will pretty much be at room temperature all the time.

Hook up a few gallon accumulator tank after your water pump. It has an inflated bladder inside that compresses with the water being pumped in until the pump stops. When you open a tap the bladder is what pushes the water out of the tap and will make the pump not "short cycle". Cheers y'all 🍻

Sierra, I have the same model counter top ice maker you have. It's about 18 months old and is still going strong but it must be cleaned often. My observations from using it is this... You must PRE CHARGED the water reservoir with COLD WATER, i.e. - let the ice maker run and dump the ice into the water reservoir until it's full. Once the reservoir is cold enough and it is making large ice cubes on its eight minute programmed cycle (cubes about thumb tip size) start dumping the ice tray into your shore powered freezer to bring the created ice cube's temperature down below freezing before using it. If you use the ice straight out of the ice maker and its TEMP IS ABOVE freezing and it will instantly melt when used in a beverage. It must be frozen in the freezer before use. Pre-freezing your countertop ice maker ice cubes will change YOUR ICE CUBE GAME. When the cubes are frozen below FREEZING the cubes will actually make a "tinking" sound, when they are added to your glass

I had the same gen in my boat. It had the older capacitor electrical backend. It would burn out the capacitor every 100hrs. Backend finally fried so I replaced it with the new style one next-gen has. That was the best! Never had another electrical issue after that. Cost 3k for the parts. Whole new gen was like 8k and the engine was fine so I went that route. When I sold the boat the electrical end had about 2k hours and the engine had about 3,200hours. Only thing I recommend besides the spare parts cruise kit is the little electric low pressure fuel boost pump. I had one that would run for a while but get hot and quit causing the eng to die. It was all random. Took a while to figure it out. Run that thing a lot. It liked to be used. One month I ran mine if I remember right like 480hours. And you can really extend the oil changes much longer than what they say. Dang thing never ever used oil. I would change oil and run it 300hrs and have the exact same amount of oil at the end. Best part it used about 1/4 gal per hour. I ran a 12k and 16k btu ac units, water heater, fig/freezer,battery charger, and the normal stuff a big boat does. I only had to manage power if all that was on and you wanted to use the microwave or stove. Great gen.

that eutectic tank would have been better - they take time to get down to temp but then depending on size of tank they can keep things frozen or cold for days - but if spare solar or other power they can be recharged when still working and just refreeze only part of the coolant eg at 80% back to 100% in a short time - We used these in the Australian bush years ago when off grid and would keep our food frozen in a 12 cubic foot freezer for 7 - 10 days without power (no solar panels then) and we kept them going if needed by 12v from the truck or a gennie if we had one running plus any other power we came across - You can have a defacto eutectic effect by keeping your fridge or freezer fully stocked eg lots of frozen water bottles and very little airspace

That water pump can be a lot quieter. If you suspend the pump on threaded rods. So the pump mounts sit on a rubber ring then a spring and then another rubber ring. This isolates the pump from the hull. Looks like cold water is on the way. Are you putting in meters to the generator to the wheelhouse?
@wjhann4836

Hey you about the fridge: - I saw kind of cooling units that contain a reservoir for cold. That might be quite useful (waeco?) - What I liked on sailboats are cooling units that have a ventilator on the cold side so if the fridge is well stuffed, you get it cold much faster. - Tip at no costs: The compressor normally comes with a fan. But in sailboats that fan only pushes the warm air around. If you are able to guide the air that warm and cold side are well separated and it gets fresh cold air it will work less time - consuming less energy.

Do not be surprised if it does not work like you think. For one Wood in a freezer or Fridge NOT a good idea and there is a reason why Fridges and freezers have a complete seal. It is to hold the cold inside so the pump does not over work as small freezers like you have should only need about 200W unit the fridge about 120w to keep things cold. Wood is not good for cold as does not act like glass plate of ceramic even plastic Perspex I think you call it Plexiglass. Which is easy to cut to size as just ask the seller or look on line.
