The Last Day of Trolleybus Operations on the MBTA

On the night of Saturday March 12, 2022, the MBTA decommissioned all 28 trolleybuses operating from the North Cambridge Maintenance Facility. The North Cambridge trolleybuses, and the routes they served, were the very last ones operating in the Greater Boston region, serving the region since 1936.
So, in this video my friend, Nick, and I, as well as other folks who appear in the video, went on the last day to take in as much as we could of these trackless trolleys.
Unlike my previous videos, this was my first attempt at creating a vlog; taking an adventure along these iconic vehicles before their retirement. My goal for this video was to have fun and hope to bring some fun for anyone watching while, in a way, giving back life to these beautiful machines.

Good video. Note: Trolley busses run on trolley wire, not catenary wire. Catenary wire has two parts. A messenger and a trolley, The trolley is the contact that trains use. The messenger is the support wire that holds it in place. And trolley busses use trolley poles, not pantographs. Other than that good video.

When I first moved to the GBA, I lived in Watertown about a mile from Waverly and a mile and a half from Watertown Sq. I rode the trolleybusses at least weekly for those years and I am really sad to see them go.

Well lets hope they will make a comeback! The trolleybus technology is important ever since their inception.

I apologize if some of the songs sounded somewhat choppy; the video as it is on my computer sounds fine so it may just be a youtube problem.

What the MBTA should have done was get XT40s with Inmotion charging using the exitsting Wire and also depot charge to replace these overhead wire buses from 2003-2006. That way North Cambridge Depot can send their Xt40s with batteries to 1 bus Dudley as said by Frank Ogelsby Jr on the D40LFs from Harvard (Cabot facility) CT2 Ruggles to Sullivan Square via MIT Broadway and Ames St (Albany St and 69 bus Lechmere to Harvard (Somerville Depot) if needed
