The Last Days of Pacific & Northwestern HO Scale Railway Layout

After 15+ years of reliable operation my Pacific & Northwestern layout lives its last days. In a few weeks I'll start dissasembling it and parts of the layout will be sold to make space for a new layout project. This video is a tribute to this layout which gave me so much fun building it and operating it.

I loved it all, but the "Northern Exposure" part was really neat. The only thing missing was the moose walking down the street. Great job.

Good camera work turns a beautiful layout into a great video. Thanks for the escape. I have always wondered how hyper-detailed layouts like this fifteen year old one are kept dust-free.

Well, it was installed in a room without windows, so less dust by default. But from time to time I took a vacuum cleaner in my hands, plus all the trees and greenery is refreshed with a hair spray every now and then. Thanks for you nice comment.

wow, and I just found your channel, and it is the end of a era. the last two locos are very very nice, if they need a home while you are in the tear down and rebuild times let me know, I can baby sit them for you. just a great looking layout, with lots to look at and great detail, but yet it does not looked crammed in there, just a thing of beauty for sure.

I have seen many layouts over the years, and I have to say that this is one beautiful work of art. The scenes are so realistic that you almost don't know that it's a miniature scale layout. It's every modelers dream to achieve this scale of perfection and realism. That town comes to life, you could use it for a movie prop, it so realistic. Great Job!

Hi Erik, Well as wrote in your movie old is going away making place for something new, better and improved. We as people evolve, so should our work, so your layout as it is beautiful and awesome will be replaced with something far more beautiful, usable, modular and more awesome than ever. Pretty sweet layout, friend. I especially liked the Bandit's truck at 6:51. I'm in the finishing stages of restoring a Trans Am just like the one Burt was driving in the movie (or "ones" I should say. I think they said there were actually three of them used). The "Unstoppable" locos were pretty cool, too. Hope your new layout comes out as nice as this one!

Thanks a lot! You're actually right, it took me very long to decide that, but the simple truth is, I don't see much sense in having two layouts and two rooms occupied with trains. But nothing is going to be wasted, lot of people would like to have some of the scenes, and the rest will be reused on the new layout....

It's really amazing the way you blended the foreground landscaping into the back ground scenery. The rocks look so realistic, what did you do use a shrinking ray gun. Also the small details make a great layout even greater, as far as I'm concerned your work is beyond compare. Good luck on the next layout project.

Hello Erik. After watching this video I am guttered & almost in tears at the thought you are going to dismantle it! It is the first time I have seen your layout in such detail & hell....what amazing detail & perfection!! I was never very good at that type of detail so I am really envious! I think dismantling it is a real bad move.....I would die for such a detailed & beautiful scenic layout as yours!! OK if you have ideas for a different theme fine but why can't you build that as well instead of destroying what you already have? I genuinely have no words to say thinking that you are going to take it all down.....I really do not!! My kindest regards, John.

Note for viewers: The Brick is indeed a real place, the first licensed bar in the state of Washington and located in Roslyn, WA. The town is perfectly replicated in this layout with a population of 883 ;-). It now has the cast of Northern Exposure pictured on some walls as they frequented the bar during filming. Kudos to the artist who made this layout. Great work.

It's a young artist called Peltz. At the end of the video there is web site where you can find him. Latest I heard he's just in a middle of making his first CD.
