Brown Water Navy Vietnam Vet here, 70 - 71. I saw so many crazy things in country. On my return home I was spat on at LAX. 25 years later America decided to honor its Vets and I am grateful for that. But for 25 years we Vietnam Vets hid in plain sight, and suffered in silence. God Bless all our Vets!

why did laos, a country not even at war with the USA get more bombs dropped on it than during ww2, why did the U.S. invade a country full of farmers that they had previously supported and trained against the Japanese. was that because after the Vietnamese defeated the Japanese, English and French someone needed to step forward and kill a few million poor farmers in a country that never did anything to the U.S. why didn't the U.S. step forward when they helped the Khmer Rouge take power and start a genocide all the while denying a genocide was taking place and blocking the U.N. from taking action. At least the Vietnamese knew when to step forward and stopped the khmer rouge and their us and china backed genocide.

@@Ltblitzful Well.. The U.S. went into laos to hit the NVA supply areas. The NVA were not supposed to be there. Its long and messy.. But so was the war. Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge.. We had just left Vietnam. No way in hell would the U.S. people put up with going back to S.E. Asia at that time.

Well said, we are dealing with the feeeeelings generation. They are selfish, uneducated, indoctrinated, and can't tell the difference. Far too many are about self and not much else. Far too many don't know anything about service to others, selflessness, logic, facts, or self-control even. I am a first Gulf war vet (US Army) and current police officer nearing retirement soon. I've had to deal with this generation for years now and it worries me greatly. My time is limited in policing, but those who come after me will have to deal with them. I feel bad for them.

J J it’s truly sad that we have speak out about things like this. This is something everyone should cherish and hold dear to their heart. Freedom isn’t free, it’s paid in blood by others. Those who went off to war need to be recognized and revered. Today’s problem’s stem from the fact that these “children” grew up too easy in a world built by great men and women. They only want more for less. They are entitled and not appreciative of the wondrous opportunities and world they live in. Only because of the sacrifice of others. It is sad that these “children” will start another war and they will see in truth, how easy they had it and how easy it was for them to throw it away.

You know if we were all brought up properly, with the ability to protect ourselves and carry a gun and fight so we could defend ourselves, and stay home to defend our home and family, if every country did this! and every person! we would not make one man give his life, no one would die so someone else could live, l dont agree with dieing for someone else its evil. The world needs to learn self defence, home defence and stop wars altogether. All those boys went to a strange country and died there alone without their family and people they knew, stop the hero status and teach everyone to defend what is, in essence, their whole life, themself and their loved ones, at home in their own country. Going to someone elses country never made sence, dieing for someone else doesnt make sence.

Chris Ryan Thats understandable because the Air Force had a few changes for E4 during the mid 20th century that caused a bit of confusion. Buck Sergeants were not implemented until 1976 and were phased out by 1998.

Excuse me and all respect to sr.airman Pitts, but it burns me to see how these Hollywood movie advisors cant even get the rank insignia correct. The USAF rank worn in the movie is a non commission officer AKA a buck sergeant designated by the star in the center of the chevron. There is however another E4 rank without the star called sr.airman.This in no way takes away from the story of sr.airman Pitts.I do think its a dishonor the way these Hollywood people, advisors or whatever dishonor the uniform by wearing it incorrectly.Campaign hats worn on the back of their heads like some kid wearing a baseball cap.Its a dishonor that really burns my a**.As it would any U.S. veteran.

At the time this happened (1966), an E-4 was an A1C. He was promoted posthumously to SSGT.

So, you were 10,000 or more miles from home, in the home country of your enemy, trying to kill him and his family and the ungrateful bastards ambushed you? AND SHOT at you? What assholes they were. If the POLITICIANS who sent you there had to come along what do you think would have happened? Just asking.

Very good for the Vietnamese people that fought against a technological more advance society, and try to teach a lesson, unfortunately the unitedstaders never learn the lesson. A generation lost. We will honor the 4 million inocente people masacres by those ignorants. Freedom had a price, America first, leaders of the free world, bla bla bla. Keep going guys good job

@@franceleeparis37 they had superb medical, fresh sea food, rice all natural pork and poultry, 55 degree caves and tunnels, all with electric. Hot babes, and baths. As for battles they were slaughtered by the hundred of thousands thanks to the maoist theory of lives are cheap. 2 g i ,s had quality canvas and leather combat boots, not jack boots that russian wear.
