It's gotten so cliche to give "bad" endings in video games now, I'm just happy to see one where everyone ends up alright.

19:15 this scene gets me choked up everytime, if there is something that we have in common with animals, its the need for freedom. And this scene beautifully encapsulates that feeling, the distance of the camera, Trico's hesitation and then running through the trees where you can no longer see him, and then that flight into the sun....just beautifully done.

Pretty sure the other Trico's survived their falls, our Trico was struck by lightning and fell from what looked like an even greater height and survived, and also fell from many other places during the course of the game. Plus Tricos seem to have regenerative abilities; Trico lost their tail when they were struck by the lightning but it grows back. You can see at the beginning of the game that Trico's tail barely touches the ground when much later in the game a good bit of it drags on the ground behind them, showing that it is in fact growing back. Same with their horns and wings. So I think it's safe to say that Tricos as a species are pretty robust.

this was a good ending and a good game. the ending left me satisfied rather than sad as i thought it would. the ending was almost perfect because realistically as this game is, trico and the boy can't live with each other so they must be separated as the nature of it won't allow wild animals to live within the rules of society. although separated i am much happy that trico and the boy didn't die. this game was very well made and i dont care what others say because they don't understand this masterpiece or appreciate the art that this game is.

The ending was bittersweet, and it was honestly perfect. I love that even though they're far apart, they're still connected by their unbreakable bond after everything they'd been through together. It's also a comfort to those of us who've lost pets. The music and camera panning were just perfect, and you'd need to be made of stone not to cry. I just completed it tonight and it was so worth the wait, definitely one of the greatest games I've ever played. Team Ico games are honestly some of the best, I hope they make another

I beat this earlier today and I honestly cant remember the last time I cried so hard. Or the last time something has fucked me up so bad emotionally. It hurts so good and I desperatally wish I had someone to talk to about it. My heart cant take it lol. No game has ever touched me this much.

Okay. I think I understand. This being in the tower needs to run off of human essence to live. So it brainwashes Tricos to kidnap and feed humans to it. My guess is the barrels it rewards them are it's byproducts or waste. Our boy was originally kidnapped by his Trico but before the creature could get away, he was attacked by the villagers suffering spear wounds to the shoulder and flank. Trico flies back to the lair but collapses before he could get to the tower with the boy. The automatons find Trico, carry him back and chain him up not realizing the boy is still inside him. Trico coughs the boy up and that is why he wakes up where he is in the beginning. Just guessing but it makes sense to me.

It's sad to see them apart, but just knowing both of them are alive, makes me really happy, i'm glad they didn't pull the same bullshit from FFXV.

Here i am 2022 and bought this game at wallmart for 15 bucks not knowing what to expect Wow glad i bought it as the ending after the credits are stuningly beautiful with the glorious music i often just play it here and it brightens up my day just amazing Well done for a beautiful ending wiping my tears of sadness then joy

If this ending does not choke you up or shed at least a tear, you got no heart. Very emotional and up lifting ending.

For me, this left more questions then answers. Why are the Tricos wearing armor, who made them? Oh, the magically controlled soldiers? Well who made them? Who created the tower, and why did they create the tower? What do the symbols expressed throughout the game mean? Magic spells? Why though? I wish there could have been more background to this. We only got 2 decent cutscenes before the ending scene. I know it was all left up to imagination for SotC as well, but I felt more satisfied with that game then I did with The Last Guardian. I am however happy that both Trico and the boy lived. But it would have been nice to see all of Trico (not just eyes) in the end with a hidden nest of baby Tricos. Or maybe when the mirror was shown in the sky, Trico could have come flying full speed into the village, majestic and healthy as ever. I'm pretty dissatisfied with the plot progression and the lack of info that would have made this game so much more fulfilling. BUT AT LEAST THEY FINALLY FUCKING RELEASED IT! Gotta give them props for the AI engine that powers Trico. That shit must've been a decade long headache for the computer engineers. Still a great game, and collectible for me.

Notice how the receptacles for the kidnapped children are carved in the form of baby bird-like creatures? What a peek into how they managed to train these things. That's why this game is great. That attention to those transient little details that can still be explored.

I'm not gonna lie, I was crying so bad when Trico flew away. Also, this probably ruins it, but at the very end, when u see the baby, it squeaked then an add popped up. I died 😂

The one thing that would have made the ending better was if the boy was crying when they show him looking up at Trico after he tells him to fly away.

So was that Trico in the end? The old dude said Trico probably doesn't have long to live, and that's when you're still playing as a boy. We saw many of those beasts existing and without the helmets. Many years later, Trico is still alive?

I remember when i completed the game. I was sick and sad the whole day...you realize that you have lived an experience, not a game, when something like that happens....Happened with Max Payne, The Last Of Us, Mass Effect...and many others.

Hm, I think the game should've had a happy ending. This one isn't as bad as I thought it would be before I saw the "after-credits scene", but still. If I had to write it, Trico would've returned to the village when the boy with the tattoos was an adult man and would become the guardian of the village. Beasts and humans would support and protect each other. Trico and the boy have been through so much crap and joy together, became close friends.. they shouldn't live so far apart from each other.

Legit wasn't gonna be able to beat this if trico died. Didn't watch anything at all except the final confirmation scene lol. Can't wait now.

I just noticed our Trico's tail was cut off before the other one ripped it off. I also didn't noticed it grew back. So they can still shoot lighting through their tails without the full tail.

The after-credits scene will make me teary no matter how many times I watched it. It shows that Trico's alive and well, and that they're still connected through the mirror. Trico FELT the connection and reacted to the boy (now a man) holding the mirror to the sky towards Trico. A truly bittersweet ending from a game that will stick with me forever. "Breathtaking" doesn't to it justice.

Just like the Iron Giant and E.T. What a heartwarming and emotional ending to a great game! Bring on the FEELS

Great game with a great ending. I dont think I have ever been as emotionally engaged with a game character as Trico. Very good game experience, hope they make something else that grabs you that strong again

I just realised that the boy's markings glow when the tower master hits him, maybe it was trying to turn him into a knight - thing or it was Trico back when it was still under the tower master's control. Maybe both, IDK.

I have literally played hundreds of games in my 35 years of gaming, but I put this in my top 3. AMAZING GAME. Actually not just a game, but an experience. Just finished it a few minutes ago and I was almost in tears. My beautiful daughter sitting next to me was actually crying watching me finish it. I don't know what else to say. Even though I just beat the game, I cant wait to see Gen Designs next game. Also cant wait for Vane.

My theory about the castle/temple thing - the Tricos were originally living there and when the alien blob thing landed, it mind controlled humans to build the temple there so it could use the Tricos. Eventually it made the suits of armor and killed off the humans or let them die since they weren't needed anymore (maybe they were hard to control or the alien was afraid of them destroying it). Which is why you see switches and things around. The mirror and tomb where you find it could've been left over from the last human who was running the place.

the barrels are not human remnants neither butterflies. is a substance that was mined in the valley. I don't know if you noticed throughout the game there were some places where mining seems to have ocurred and they (the creepy armors) harvested and prepared it. they were given to the tricos for them to keep living and heal in case they had been injured. (just like organisms need food, they needed something too) this substance attracted butterflies that seemed to eat it too.

Has anyone worked out where the mirror came from when the boy was young and also how/why it appeared in the dirt again when he was old in the exact way it did when he was a child? Also I watched the ending again to see if I could get a glimpse of Tricos tail but couldn't see anything. His tail being ripped in half was the main and probably only thing we could use to know that it was our Trico so I figured that if I could see if the tail of the Trico at the end in the cave was half missing we'd know FOR SURE that our Trico was still alive no question.

After many years, the kid (the adult who pointed the mirror to the sky) calls trico back to him (those set of eyes belonged to him, and hes located where the whole game started off)

Ya know. I don't know if it was purposely brilliant, or an accident. All the struggle to control him, when he wouldn't listen.. seemed at times like a game glitch, and was so frustrating. But in the end, THAT VERY THING. Built character relationship. And at the end, I cried like a baby. We had been thru so much. so much struggle. Brilliant

WAIT... Trico had really short wings throughout the whole game but near the end you fight another guardian with long wings, but you take off all its armour, and at the end, that guardian flies away.. It ends with a guardian, and the real trico was the one on the breaking pillar! So.. ...Trico died?!
