HMT has a great opportunity to recapture watch market by pumping in their trademark handwind mechanical watches to the market. I think they should also start selling through popular ecommerce platform like amazon, Flipkart instead of their own crappy website. Unfortunately they are completely reluctant and indifferent. And that allows fake hmt watches are being sold.

@@WatchandmoreIndiaofficial HMT doesn't have capacity, funds and most importantly willingness to start manufacturing mechanical movements again. Plus they will have to pay licence cost to citizen in case they decide to produce new movements. All these things aren't practical. Hence they can't capture market till end of the world 🙂 HMT is only surviving on legacy and hype for their mechanical watches.

@@swkulkar they can try to use imported handwind movement directly from Japan or Switzerland and use them in their watches. Thats what microbrands are doing. At least HMT can make use of the brand value they have in Indian market. ST 96 swiss handwind movement is available at about 1k. If they spend another 1k in case and finally sell the finished product at 3.5k, they can make handsome margin. If there is a will, there is a way. Even miyota 8215 automatic movements comes at under 2k for bulk purchase and they are already using 8215 in Stellar range. Whats the big deal in putting the same movement in pilot, janata or Kohinoor case and then sale at around 4.5 k, it would be cheapest automatic watch in India offered by a good brand.

It is a sheer lack of ownership and willingness from HMT. You will hardly find a situation where products are in such a demand but still a company is adamant to do any improvement to tackle the situation. So what is the future of such company?

Sorry Sir, I do not remember. But usually inventory is same as online. If the model you are looking for is out of stock online, it would probably the same in store. Only advantage is you get to try the watch in person and you get a HMT paper bag. At times the store personnel will allow strap replacement as well based on your preferences.

Although people will tell you that HMT do not have the licence any more to manufacture mechanical movement using Citizen's technology, I personally think its combination of laid back attitude and lack of will. So many microbrands like DWC sold their entire mechanical range and clearly that indicates that there is a market demand, if HMT doesn't want to leverage their brand image and re-enter market, then thats their decision.
