Tried to fix the last jedi ending so you dont get the ''palpatine is suddenly alive'' spoiler in the TROS opening crawl. Now the last jedi also has a nice cliffhanger. Sadly had to cut broom boy....

This is the perfect ending for TLJ, the tone in the credit music is also perfect holy shit

my ending Ben is thinking about taking the throne when he hears a voice "My boy.....take your birthright....dew it" then as Ben is asking Rey to take his hand, we see an image of Palpatine behind her, and he starts to laugh. cut to credits now we go into TROS going "holy fucking shit is rey going dark? and is she a Palpatine after all?"

A pretty fundamental failure the Last Jedi was that it didn't set anything up or advance the story at all, which is why the Rise of Skywalker felt so rushed, it needed to build a conflict and end it in the same movie. This edit actually fixes that problem a little bit, but Star Wars films never have time skips during the movie. A better fix (which you can't actually do just using editing) would be if Palpatine is slowly revealed as the main villain throughout the Last Jedi. Then again, it's petty obvious Rian Johnson didn't plan for him to come back so he wouldn't have included a subtle background plot like that. It also doesn't fix the absurdity of Palpatine coming back at all but at least it makes Rise of Skywalker and Last Jedi feel more cohesive, which is also a improvement your edit achieves.

I do agree with your first paragraph and the general line of thought in your second one. While I do admit it's absurd to bring Palpatine back, I think this is the only nice thing in the movie. This sums up the really poor quality of the whole saga, as the best thing in the final movie is complete nonsense. But, I do think it could be done in a more palatable way. In fact, I think it could be done in an acceptable, enjoyable way. Not in one movie. That would require a Star Wars X. But could be a great closure to the saga.

This ending wouldn’t have been possible!! When The Last Jedi was being filmed, Colin Treverrow was still set to direct Episode IX. Which was gonna called Duel of The Fates!! In his version, Palpatine didn’t return!! It wasn’t until September 2017, 3 months before The Last Jedi was released in theaters, that he was fired and they brought back JJ Abrams. Who rewrote the script and added the idea of the Emperor returning

@@Wh1stle_03 In Treverrow’s version, Kylo Ren didn’t get redeemed. There was also a big twist that revealed that Kylo Ren was the one who killed Rey’s parents, who were nobodies. Also, Duel of The Fates would’ve had the final battle be a lightsaber fight between Rey and Kylo Ren on Mortis (i hope I spelled that correctly). During the fight, the force ghosts of Luke, Obi Wan, and Yoda show up to try and turn Kylo Ren back to the light and become Ben Solo again. It doesn’t work and, as the script says, Kylo Ren is “extinguished”

@@Wh1stle_03 Duel of The Fates was a way better story than The Rise of Skywalker. It actually expanded on the things that were set up in The Last Jedi instead of retconing it all
