God I hated his death. HATED it. He was so against the typecast of the ruthless unintelligent Viking/Dane you see in all the shows. He led with his heart more than rage. Which made it feel so much more impactful when he'd scream in frustration or battle rage. This show did a great job making this entire battle so heartbreaking because you know how avoidable it all was.

I absolutely loved Sigtryggr, he was a great warrior, an intelligent, sensitive leader and I was gutted when he was killed. They were so in love, and their oaths to each other was mesmerising, so heartfelt and moving.Great acting, I loved it. Great acting, loved it.

Sigtryggr was too smart they made him slow asf in the last season.

I gotta say the scene where Sitryggr was being put to the sword by Uhtred had me bawling all night. The expression of both actors was touching, raw and unbridled emotion and love and finding dignity, though defeated, was so real and it was hard to remember that it was just a story.

Honestly they did him dirt in the last season. He was established as one of the smartest players in the game in season 4. Then in season 5 he gets outsmarted first by his drunken brother, then by Aethelelm. He is literally a plaything of everyone around him up until the moment he dies.

I find it amazing that they chose to cast him & he was the best actor for the best character in the series. I would think that when casting Sigtryggr, they'd look for someone who looked more like a warrior -tough build and all. When he first appeared, I was like who was this skinny long-haired fry he looked like he wouldn't survive even 1 episode. Whew, was I wrong. He was the best in the series, an absolute favourite. I'm so glad they chose him though I still don't understand how that happened. The actor looks like a good nerdy boy in real life (not complaining, at all) so I'm guessing he really shone through with talent during the casting. Sigtryggr was a legendary man of honor. So emotional and sad. His honor and dedication to his people was honorable. The love between Sigtryggr and Stiorra was so uplifting. He was a true Dane in thought and deed. Stiorra was drawn into his gentleness and honor.

This is brilliant, very well done! They did him dirty this season, he was such a wise, merciful, loving warrior and king and it was Edward who had betrayed him first by not coming to his aid while Sigtryggr was just defending his people and therefore he was executed, that was not justified, and he and Stiorra deserved better.

They really rushed and killed him off lol it made no sense to kill him.

I believe they did Sigtrygrr so wrong in this season!!! In season 4, he was a brilliant tactician, cunning, winning battles against better opponents and he took Winchester!!! He was someone who believed in reasoning and negotiations, yet in season 5 he did none of that!!! Terrible misuse of his character by the writers!!! His death made 0 sense!!! So disappointed.....

It wasn't until he hit the ground that I realized how much I liked and respected his character. When he collapsed I began to cry and I still don't quite understand why. I guess it didn't hit me how real it all was until he fell...and once he hit the ground...that was it. His story was over. Yet I couldn't bring myself to hate Edward for it. I saw the logic in his judgement. It didn't make me angry. Just very sad. Heartbroken, even.

I'm surprised these two never had kids. 10 years or so has passed from last season so why no kids. I expected 2 or 3 from them at least.

His death made no sense given the situation that both him and Edward had been deceived, and literally as soon as Sigtrigyar found out the truth he stopped fighting. Edward killed him for purely selfish reasons, and it made no sense that non of his men or even Uhtred stood up for him! I also didn’t like how he was very smart and crafty in season 4, but then became pretty average in season 5.

I just watched the scene where he died, and I refuse to accept it. There was no need for Edward the prick to have Sigtrigyar killed….BOTH sigtrigyar and Edward were manipulated and deceived by the the sly lord Æthalhelm, once the misunderstanding was resolved I really don’t get how Edward could justify killing sigtrigyar. He attacked Æthalhelms men which was the same goal was king Edward….it made no sense to kill my man Sigtrigyar!

Just watched it as I am catching up on season 5. Feels like the most unfair death in the show. Edward could have asked for hostages, for an oath of fealty, even for Sigtryggr to go after Aethelhelm to prove his loyalty to their alliance. But clearly he is no Alfred. He makes a move for the one thing he knows Sigtryggr will say no to. In the name of peace, Edward corners him and makes sure he won't be in his way any more. There is no honor in that. This is power grabbing. Not peace. Oh and Uthred should have known better and advice more actively. He is himself worshiping the Dane gods and still an ally of Edward, showing it is compatible. OK, yes, i am just angry with the writers of the show here ...

Wonderful character! I loved TLK overall, but wished it was not so Uhtred-centric. Yes, I know that he was the main character, I get it, no need to state the obvious... but for my own personal taste, I would have loved to see some more of some of the other characters for a while and Sigtryggr was one I would have gladly watched whole episodes about.

I do feel as though Edward should have been portrayed as more of a villain instead of anti-hero. He just seems like a really hypocritical, unreasonable, unfair and impulsive guy. He says he's Christian, yet Christ would frown upon what Edward did to Sigtryygr. Also, he should have acknowledged that it wasn't Sigtryygrs fault this all happened. It was Aethelhelm's. And Aethelhelm was one of Edwards people. Edward should take fault in one of HIS people going and attacking another person's people, regardless of whether he knew or not. Sigtryygr LITERALLY thought all these soldiers were the ones responsible for the massacre. How quick Uthred was to forgive him and Stiorra not rebelling against him was the most unrealistic and unbelievable parts of this Season. Edward is literally MURDERING people for not becoming Christian, yet to all the other characters that's ok? F**k Edward, I'm glad he's dead. Aethelstan is so much more likeable than he ever was anyway.
