I'd say The Last Kingdom Seasons 1 to 3 are equal to or better than Vikings. It fell off hard after Season 3 in my opinion. I got more frustrated and annoyed with 4 and 5 than anything. Only Edward, Eadith, Finan and Uhtred made it worth watching. Vikings meanwhile was incredible Seasons 1-4. 5 Was trash, 6 was okay ish but nothing great. Overall, I'd say the two are pretty close, but Vikings 1-4 was legendary. Only rare moments with Alfred touched on the level of atmosphere and emotion early Vikings had.

The armors and clothing were really bad in the first few seasons, but it's gotten much better in the later ones. Saxons are actually wearing chainmail instead of some weird Xena leather armor like in Vikings.

Second season is great, 1000 times better, have you watched it?

@@str8manballtouch949 They do get somewhat better later on. Like you can see Saxons wearing actual chainmail and helmets and stuff, which is already leagues above the Xena outfits in Vikings.

I didn't get the feeling that the character was built as a saint of the church but more a greedy ruler/king. Anyone can claim to be a follower of god doesn't mean they do not fear death since that's by human nature is what our brain is built to avoid. Also it's fiction. If you feel attacked by something that do not align with your belief don't watch it. But it makes for a boring story. This scene wouldn't have resonated with people as much if all the dude did went "oh yeah kill me i'm cool with it". It doesn't add the drama. The fear that all of humanity can relate to. He comes off more as a human by the way he acted since it makes more logical sense to people. Sometimes people seem to forget that to create the drama you first need to create the villain. For this scene to be more of a heroic stand and be like "oh yeah kill me" they would have needed to build up the character with more background than the short time he was shown. Nobody cares of a random dude getting killed in a story thats been on screen for less than 5min showing little to none human emotions.

I watched Vikings and gave up on it. I am watching The Last Kingdom (and reading the books) while waiting for the DVD for season 3 in mid-January.

I did really like Vikings but its actually gone downhill after Ragnar's death. Ive started The last kingdom quite recently and I like it so far. This version of Ubba just looks and acts like a crazy huge beast. Brilliant casting.

I watch both and for me. They are both great series.
